Surely it’s not just me that finds the constant lack of a reliable train service at a weekend frustrating? Southern seem to use any excuse to axe weekend services despite the demand which puts more pressure on the roads through buses and cars.

Has anyone tried the new ClockHouse @ weekend...... Is it worth a visit?

The works to re-landscape the square in Dulwich Village are set to complete weekend I believe. Despite all the 'controversy', over its creation and legitimate questions over cost, it is in my opinion, looking great (and a huge improvement on the queue of idling cars that were constantly sat at that junction 4 years ago. A great new public space for people to sit, relax and congregate.

Dangerous redesign Hunts Slip Road - Dulwich Estate
I’m a resident who both cycles and drives and safer roads make our community safer for all.

However, arbitrary measures (I understand that neither DPL nor Kingsdale were properly consulted on the changes) that Dulwich Estate have taken to make Hunts Slip Rd ‘safer’ have made it much worse and someone is going to get seriously hurt.

Council created health hazard
Why does the council require their street cleaners to leave blue bin bags (which are full of doggie poo bags) on the pavements to be ripped open by foxes and birds when they are regularly not collected for two or three days?

We've lived in East Dulwich for the past 24 years but need to move somewhere cheaper to release some money from our flat - we're thinking probably south of here, within commuting distance of London bridge (up to about an hour or a bit more) but it's very hard to find the right place which is also cheaper to buy. We're artists/ designers aged 55- 57 and would like to be somewhere in an arty / alternative town or large village. Several friends of ours have moved out and most have found it very hard to settle elsewhere after being in SE22.
We've seen lots of places which we know are NOT where we want to be eg Sevenoaks (great location but very stuffy and expensive) but would love to hear any suggestions of places which might be a better fit.
We would love to hear good and bad reports of places, thanks.
Update - still looking!! - What about Rye in Sussex- we like the feel of the town but what's it like to actually live there - does anyone know people who live there??

After a series of complaints sent to Ellie Reeves about the extremely poor service/lack of deliveries to The Gardens/ Kelmore Grove round we have started to get deliveries again. One delivery came last Sunday and so did a lot of mail ( we got 22 letters ). Many of my letters were dated as far back as early 4th, 6th and 7th of October. Others were from the second week of October. Thankfully, it seems that we now have a new postman ( as promised by Peckham sorting office ) when they replied to Ellie Reeve's initial email in support of the unhappy residents at Kelmore and The Gardens.

Have to say that Ellie Reeves and her office were very helpful and kept us informed/ updated on the situation and with regards to what the post office had to say about their terrible service.

Southwark Council have released a draft Householder Development supplementary planning document, which sets out to make it impossible to build a loft conversion if you live in a Victorian house or flat.

The new draft guidance requires dormers to be stepped in from the party/external walls by 1m, this means you will not be able to put a staircase up to the new loft room. They also want this 1m step-in on both sides of the dormer over the outrigger of the property (ie if you were doing an 'L-shape' dormer conversion). This would result in a room that is less than 1m wide on most Victorian terraces.

These requirements constitute a desired ban on loft conversions by Southwark Council. This is not fair on homeowners, especially if all your neighbours have had a conversion done and you will not be allowed to if this gets approved.

Luckily, the consultation period is open until 27th November and we can stop this unfair legislation - see the document and complete the survey to object to it here: https://engage.southwark.gov.uk/en-GB/folders/supplementary-planning-documents Survey: https://engage.southwark.gov.uk/en-GB/projects/householder-development

There is a consultation event this evening (29/10) between 18.00-20.00, at 160 Tooley Street and another on Saturday (02/11) between 10.00-12.00 at the Peckham Library.

Hi Neighbours!

With Halloween fast approaching, let's make it easy for families to find those welcoming, spooky doorsteps around East Dulwich. If your street is planning to hand out treats, share the location here! It'll help families plan their routes & make sure no little ghouls & goblins miss out on the fun.

Looking forward to a safe & festive Halloween 🎃

Here's one of our oh-so adorable little lions @ twb. as we're all getting into the Halloween spirit!

Which provider are you with?

we’ve just moved to the area and can barely get anything with Lebara (vodafone). Which carrier has the best coverage in SE22? Don’t want to switch only to have the same issue again…

any insight is greatly appreciated!

Unbelievable destruction: West Norwood marble fountain demolished
Just been through West Norwood and was stunned at the destruction caused by a crash.

There is an 1899 marble drinking fountain standing in a pedestrian island outside the West Norwood Library - or at least there should be. The thing has been smashed into three bits, knocked across the pavement, and sprayed with broken glass and bits of some kind of vehicle.

Presumably the vehicle that did this must have been travelling with some force when it mounted the kerb and sent the stone blocks flying: significant weight or speed or both. Supposedly this is a 20mph zone.

Look around and you'll see this kind of damage (hopefully less dramatic) all over the shop: smashed bollards, knocked over traffic signs, squashed lights and askew kerbstones are hardly rare. If these were blast marks from explosions, we'd think this was a dangerous place and worry about what would have happened if we were standing there when it happened. We wouldn't let our kids go where buildings were covered in the recent pock marks of bullets. But we all seem to ignore the signs of road violence and accept it...

Edit: this might have happened almost two weeks ago???

Hi guys,

My partner & I are looking to potentially buy a place near the intersection of Lordship Lane and Barry Road.

We’ve read reports that the Lordship Lane area suffers from higher than average levels of historical building subsidence, and we’re worried - based solely on appearances - that this might be the case for the house we’re looking to buy (a Victorian terraced).

Have any of you based in a similar location (Lordship Lane-Barry Road intersection/broad area) had problems with building subsidence, or heard/noticed that it is a common problem in the area?

Any input, guidance, or experience very welcome & appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

I thought I would post a warning that my dog (a fox hound) was attacked by two pit bulls whilst being walked in Dulwich Wood, near Sydenham Hill yesterday afternoon. Our dog was very badly injured and she and the lady walking her (or son's carer) were only able to get away when some other walkers pulled the dogs off her.

Our dog has significant injuries all over her body, fortunately they did not attack our son's carer. The attack has been reported to the police, but if you see such dogs around the area be very careful. They clearly have an owner as they were wearing collars, although if the owner was there they did not make themselves known.

The application has now been notified and the local community have only 14 days to respond to the proposal consisting of over 100 documents. Almost impossible to digest the proposal and fairly assess its impact. PBSA should have separation from residential homes, this does not. As many have pointed out, there's no demand for student housing round ED. Also, it's huge. Will tower over the school and surrounding area. There seems to be no direct link or partnership with any university so this looks to be a giant investors HMO. More decent homes would be a much better use. If you want to comment or review the docs the link is here. https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=SHWOSNKBJXR00

Redesigned Dulwich Square
As the wraps start to come off the Dulwich Square hideously expensive works can anyone see what the difference is to how it was before other than:

New expensive looking crazy paving

Restriction of emergency services access to Calton

Creation of a pedestrian vs cyclist choke point on the new cycle chicane at the entrance from Calton

It all all seems a lot of money spent for very little.

Looks like there is a new opening at the Dulwich Park end of Lordship Lane, on the stretch of shops opposite the Grove Tavern. It's next to the curryhouse (Spice Republic) and called HNR. Any ideas what it could be? That stretch could do with a bit of sprucing up!
