I thought I'd reply, because BN5 (aka MrJ) has gone out to work. They are renting and we do know the landlord. The same guy, and later his girlfriend, had lived upstairs since we moved in three years ago. They've had to move for their jobs and couldn't sell, so have rented the flat still furnished with all their own stuff. We weren't best mates with them or anything, but we did get on well enough and it was a generally nice, friendly, considerate building. Part of the reason I'm bothered by the smoking and the cigarette butts is that I know the landlord never allowed anyone to smoke in the flat when he lived there and it's still furnished with all his own furniture. And it's not as if he's some big couldn't care less landlord, he's just someone who had to move and had to rent out his home. Anyway, the consensus here seems to agree with our own feeling that the best way forward is a friendly chat. As the more diplomatic half of the BN5/J team (check our posting histories to see if you agree... ;-)) I'm going to go up later.

Funny? Certainly not laugh out loud

Who Paul Shane or Milow? I just had a look at the Paul Shane clip and I honestly couldn't watch past the third line... too horrible... too creepy.
-
This pleasantly acoustic cover by Milow, of an utterly filthy 50 Cent song, is all over the radio and going round and round in my head, so I thought I'd share.... It's been number one all over Europe.... I think I quite like it..... But the video is a bit grim......

Having had a decidely modern comprehensive school education (and not being proper posh like Mockney ;-)) I speak german, french and a little russian, but not latin. However, a quick google search came up with this Latin Forum where I'm sure you'll find someone who knows the answer.

And bless you too Mr just a tiny bit patronising... There are, of course, wider issues here about the power of propaganda and misinformation, and the willingness of the population to believe what they're told, and the potential for manipulation of the facts by those in power, but like I said far too angry for the philosophical debate. These are outright lies about the NHS that are going pretty much unchallenged, because our representatives in the states won't get involved.

I found that piece this morning through Ben Godlacre's site, quite possibly the same way you did. It's left me so unspeakably furious I don't think I can rationally debate it at the moment. The propaganda circulating is wildly inaccurate (no care for cardiac patients over 59? What?) and deeply offensive to the principles of the system and those of us working hard within it. And the idea that a system where money alone dictates the quality of care you receive being morally superior is laughable. I am left feeling that something must be done about it, but don't know what, and feeling quite let down by the party line that we can't interfer with domestic affairs in the face of such outrageous lies about the system.

You are off topic Moos, but it's alright, we're in the lounge and it's cheering up my Tuesday lunchtime no end. Aaanyway, just for Mockney and other redhead fans out there.... I really must learn how to put You Tube clips into my posts...
-
But it says on the internet that she's 5ft 3. Are you telling me that not everything on the internet it true? Crikey! That's really very serious.
-
She's not that tiny, Moos, only an inch shorter than me! Annaj - part time pixie.
-
Oi! MacGabhann! Are you calling Moos fat? *runs off chuckling*
-
Ahh, but you do love the flame haired ladies don't you, Mockney? I bet there's a special place in your heart for Dr Beverley Crusher isn't there? ;-)

It was a fun night on Friday, although as always I didn't get to talk to nearly as many people as I wanted to. MrJ and I also spent a while chatting to the charming new forumites from Dublin, whose names I can't for the life of me remember *waves* Moos, darling, you're much more lovely than Gillian Anderson and younger and taller. And I'm a fan of the beard..... although maybe that's because I had a bit of a thing for Grissom in the early days of CSI:-$

Yes, I love it! Some of my favourite film dance scenes are in Strictly Ballroom.
-
Yes, I'm a great big fraidy cat and I'm not ashamed to admit it. It's not just films either, I'm just not a thrill-seeker. Bungy jumping, white water rafting, skydiving, all those adrenaline-y things, I just don't get why they're fun.
-
I'm not a fan of horror or thrillers at all (but spookily enough this exact subject came up talking to Lady MacGabhann yesterday) I just don't relate to the pleasure in being scared. I know lots of people enjoy the thrill of being firghtened, but for me being scared is just being scared, unplesant and oppressive and not at all thrilling. They give me nightmares too. :-$

It's not the plot that leaves me perplexed BBW, it's wondering whether I was being compared to uptight and angsty Katherine or romantic, but slighty mad Hannah. And don't get excited, I don't look like either of them. As far as the film goes and it's feelgoodiness, I do like it and I do relate to what your saying about a tragic film (and there's no doubt it it tragic) being in some ways a very emotionally satisfying experience, but I agree with Moos, that it's not a feel good film.
-
Someone once told me that I reminded him of the women in the English Patient, not in looks but in personality and mannerisms, but didn't say which one. So, for me it's not so much a feel good film as a feel puzzled and slightly perplexed film.

*makes mental note to buy Mockney a large drink*

Oh, bad luck BBW, you'll miss us again....

Oh come on Keef, this isn't about being anti-church, it's about wanting an independent cinema in a restored art deco builidng. I was fairly new to the area when the Weatherspoons opened. I was aware of it and thought it was a terrible shame that that lovely building wasn't being restored back to a cinema, but by the time I became aware of it the conversion was already underway and, if I'm honest, I was less aware of local issues and it never occured to me that I could've done anything about it. If there had been a well publicised campaign, like this one, and an independent cinema interested in taking it on, as there is here, I'd have totally supported it.
-
That does sound harsh Bizzy, particularly when I suspect you have your own agenda. This is a thread publicising the campaign to support the cinema. It's not about being anti-church, that's just your perception, it's about restoring an original art deco building to it's former glory and purpose.

No, Quids, what was beyond the pale was not Starmix's views, but his choice of expressions and insults.

Do you know any of your other neighbours Lewishamman? Could you speak to them and find out if they share your concerns? What about your family, you mentioned that you have a son, have you discussed your concerns with him? Edited to say, while I sympathise if you feel unsafe, it is a ridiculous generalisation to say that all Russians are ruthless and violent. If your only objection to this place is that the people are Russian, then I suggest you leave them alone and get on with your life. But, as I said before, if you think something illegal or dangerous might be going on then speak to neighbours who you trust or report it.

Sorry, Declan, didn't mean to put words in your mouth, I was just defending your response. thexwinglessxbird, I've read lots of your posts on other threads and I've read people disagreeing with you and questioning your opinions, but that's not bullying and it's nothing to do with age. No-one can tell you age when you post unless you choose to give that information or information that makes it obvious (on which note, you're the first "teen" I've met who's recently bought a house, congratulations!) so when people react they're reacting to what you say not how old you are. Some of your posts, particularly when you first registered, were pretty outspoken and I don't think it's unreasonable that people disagreed.
