  2. Jah, it won't be the same without you, but if you really think it might land you in trouble I suppose we'll survive.

    Eurovision

I love eurovision:)) Sadly, MrJ doesn't share my enthusiasm. Can't get the links, because I'm at work. Will have a look as soon as I get home
  4. Happy Birthday Andrew! I trust you'll be out on Friday, I have my best manic expressions at the ready.
  5. Absolutely snorky. I'll consider myself told. Sorry. To be honest, I'm using the forum as a virtual back of envelope. I forgot last year and it was just before my wedding, so my mum had been doing loads for me. She was fine about it, but i felt terrible. I thought if I started a thread it might just remember this year.
  6. Post you cards by tomorrow to avoid disappointment and guilt!
  7. Indeed. I should also point out that as someone who grew up in the west country ooh - aahing to me just means saying yes.
  8. This thread is like an itch you just can't stop scratching isn't it Mockney? It may reassure you to know that a big part of my continuing professional education and training is critical analysis - learning to find and interpret published and unpublished data and assess it's validity and relevance to my work. In the exam I will have to take to become a consultant a quarter of the marks will reply on my skill in identifying bad (and good) science. Recognising conflicts of interest, often financial, and their effect is part of that process. Having said that (oh dear, about to come over all honaloochieB and contradict myself) although we are all taught to practice evidence based medicine a great deal of what happens on a day to day basis is inevitably not strictly evidence based. Some practices were established before large trails were standard practice, so are not strictly evidenmce based, but have been shown to work over the years. In other areas it's very difficult to do the research, because of ethical constraints. In cardiac arrest for example, there is no evidence for the drugs used, because randomised controlled trials can't be done on people in cardiac arrest, because, well, they're essentially dead and can't consent. So the drugs recommended for use are recommended based on there known action in other areas - a sort of best guess. Finally, it is worth remembering that medicine is an art as well as a science. What I do, and hopefully do well, is as much down to instinct and judgement as it is scientific knowledge. I think that might be the dullest thing I've ever posted. Sorry, working too much. Speaking of which, back to the coal face.....
  9. I'm on day 6 of 7 at work. Can't wait for Friday. I'll be there 8.30 / 9ish.

Weird. I thought being a specia-list registrar in emergency medicine was only dirty on the conventional vomit-on-trousers way. Will try again later with appropriate censorship!

I can't seem to post on the emenies of reason thread. I've just written a post, but when I click on Post Message nothing happened. I've tried a few times and refreshed in between, but it hasn't appeared. Will it come up three times in a minute? Is this the earths energy working against me?
  12. SeanML, There is really nothing much to discuss here. You broke the law, got caught, got fined. Is ?75 too much? Not if it stops you doing it again. Also several people have said it should be ?50 within 10 days, so if you check you may find it is ?50. Is it wrong that it's more than your sister's fine? Yes, she should have been fined more, but that doesn't mean you should have been fined less. And if you "AGAINST LITTERING" why did you drop it in the first place? I feel really strongly about always paying for public transport, I think it's wrong and unfair to skip fairs. One night coming home from work late, after a long weekend on duty the inspectors got on the bus. It was only when I got my Oyster out that I realised I'd let my travel card expire the day before (confused about dates). It is the only time in my life I have ever travelled without a ticket and my travel card was only out of date by a few hours. The inspector even apologised for having to fine me and suggested I appeal, but the fact is I didn't have a ticket. So, I paid the fine and didn't complain. That's just life.
  13. I don't think I was oooh-ing and aaah-ing. I posted specifically to say that it is true, but not a reason to be alarmed. That's not too unreasonable is it Domitianus?
  14. Didn't feel a thing, but my sister in Ely (near Cambridge) was woken by it and it was strong enough that she knew it was an earthquake.
  15. Actually, I quite like the food there. I've only eaten there twice, but enjoyed it very much both times. (should I now immediately post again saying I eat there every week and hate it?) MP - pull yourself together or I'll set bignumber5 on you. :X

That's good going. > You must be well flashable, innit? Oh, *Bob* you smooth talking charmer! It is a bit weird. It mostly happened in Germany when I was a student and I got the impression it was more common there. Sorry about you friend darcy, but good to hear that most people have not had any trouble.
  17. Lived in ED on and off since 2000. Haven't been mugged yet *gives quick bow to Mockney's gods of jinx* Have been flashed at 4 or 5 times, but only flashing nothing else and only one of those times in London. Oh, and pick-pocketed once at Elephant & Castle tube.
  18. HonaloochieB, I have no idea what is going on in your head, but the efficiency of your post really appeals to me - making both sides of the argument yourself so we don't have to waste any time. Well done. I really don't mind at all if Anthony wants to promote his band, but I dislike sneakiness. If he wants to tells us all that they're great that's fine, I might even give them a listen, but he should be honest about it. He's been strangely quiet though since his first (and last?) post. Anthony? Are you there?
  19. Thanks PGC, sounds like I might be needing that! *adopts stern expression number three (one that's really quite scary and not in a good way)* Now listen here boys. Enough of this smut! I will absolutely not be dressing up for the forum gathering. Shocking, what would Dulwichmum think?
  20. Hardly! It's so unusual that I am first to catch on to something (I'm normally the one who laughs 5 minutes after the joke, you know the sort) that I thought I'd better act on it. I was wearing my sternest expression while typing though. :-S
  21. *Bob* and mattham, you are of course both right. There is very little truly responsible tourism, but to be fair I didn't recommend that site or vouch for it's eco credentials, I just said the holidays look fab. Which they do. If we're honest, nowhere you fly to can really be classes as "eco" or that responsible in global terms.
  22. Errr ok. Extraordinary coincidence. A quick google search reveals that the lead singer of The Nites is called Antony Gold. If you want to promote your band please do, but credit us with some sense. Please.
  23. Love it *Bob*. Can you set it to music for me?
  24. While we're talking.... Aren't there a lot of buggies on Lordship Lane? Don't you think there are too many / not enough childfriendly pubs? Is it better to be working class and born and bred ED or recently arrived middle class? Have you SEEN that Foxtons? We should really discuss these pressing local issues shouldn't we? >:D<
  25. I love browsing on this site... http://www.responsibletravel.com/ I've never booked anything through them, so can't recommend them, but the holidays look great.
