EDF Drinks at The Phoenix this Friday 9th January

He'll post a link to his flickr page once he's uploaded them, if usual form is followed. No tagging, though, allows for a bit of anonymity (plus maybe coaxing more people to future drinks if they really want to know who's who ;-)) -

Up posting at 8?! I also am a little unsure how it went from "nice that they don't close too early" to "it's 1.30, lets walk home". Yet to officially decide if feet hurt more than head... Great to see everyone and meet some new people, although I went from quietly not saying much to pissed and saying too much without going through the traditional 'easy company' stage in the middle. indiepanda, Gen17, miles, kels, lovely to have met you. old faces, lovely to have seen you all. Happy birfday jaws. See you all next time ;-) -

Lovely Ladies:A Question re: Your Future Husbands "ex"
bignumber5 replied to Tony.London Suburbs's topic in The Lounge
I'm a chap, so not the target audience here, but - No one that you've shagged at your wedding other than the person you're marrying: I assumed that rule was universal. The non-attendance of the other thing is all part of throwing a stroppy about the first. Uninvite the ex. If the ex really is a friend, she'll be ok about it. -
Never meant to suggest that fact in isolation was automatic grounds. Am giving this one up as a bad job.

Came out all a bit wrong - will melt into background, may attempt to elaborate when feeling more eloquent

Despite my aforeposted jowly remark, i thought she was looking good on her years, and naturally so, sans botox, surgery etc. As for the judgement on her personal life, i don't give it a great deal of thought, but she is a part of a special club of famous ladies with entry requirements as follows: if they weren't famous, social services would (post Climbie-Report) be keeping an eye, but they're famous so hello/heat mag can do it instead. Other members include the infamous Katona woman. I'm not suggesting that there's anything wrong with having 4 kids by 4 fathers per-se, it's just an observation of an apparent imbalance as alluded to by Mockers. (edit for typos)

A number of glammed-up ladies, a rapper, the guy off The Word and Mini-Me. Should be a riot...

I usually go to clipper on NXrd, but had first bad cut there last week so am not singing its praises as i normally would - 10 mins of having my head thrown around rather forcefully and much too short but as started with big clipper-buzz to side of head was really no going back... but first time that's happened. Normally does the job, about ?15.

Tried to read Hemmingway's "A Moveable Feast" once and the man cannot structure a sentence. A series of descriptions that seem to be trying very hard indeed to be vivid yet obscure, all separated by "and". Commas, man, commas. Not so much a book as a diary - just descriptions followed by never mentioning that object again. Anyway, crap.

Use the number 12 bus? Have a read.
bignumber5 replied to EDOliver's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sounds very unpleasant, UnderhillOliver. This kind of thing does occasionally happen on the 12, always near the end of the line on a late bus when it's isolated, and always at the back because on a big long bendy-bus the driver may not even notice. Personally, as the bus empties, I gradually move forwards (from around Rye Lane/P.Rye). I doubt the driver would jump to my rescue in a crisis, but it makes me feel safer somehow (If I'm doing the last stretch on the 197 instead, I move downstairs for the same reason). I would suggest doing this. Crucially, get back on the 12 asap, before using it again becomes a "thing". Link in case your housemate wants to contact Southwark Victim Support Glad to see this business hasn't put you off the area. Hope your housemate feels the same once the initial shock subsides. And Matthew123, let's not blame a scared, shocked person for wanting the whole incident to just go away. Your point about growing confidence of a young nasty makes sense but however a victim wants to get over an incident is entirely up to them and guilting them forward won't make them feel any better. The lower pressure suggestions above make sense too, but CCTV is grainy footage with no sound, and afforementioned young nasty only has to claim that you can't see when she stood on his foot or something, and he was retaliating, and the whole thing would fall apart: she feels just as shitty plus exposed. -
Grand cause, Zephyr, best of luck to you.

Either look out for the big group of messy people, ask strangers in a pub if they are with EDF (preparing for sneers if they're not), or - perhaps the more favourable option - look at the threads for previous drinks which may have a flickr link for photos, then you'll have a few faces to look out for, even if you don't know the matching names yet! We've yet to find out whether or not mrs.number5 can get a shift swap or if she has to work, but hopeful... -

Was only replying to the people that were asking where all the estate agent types come from, and expressing my own preferences - wasn't having a pop at those that live locally and like Adventure, EDT etc.

Why is anywhere described by Lonely Planet as "isolated" not remain so for long? Because it's in Lonely Planet. A few people start going to a new area because it's cool, they take their friends, they take theirs, somewhere new opens, somewhere else new opens, and the presence of Adventure Bar, as well as the current incarnations of the The Bishop and the EDT on a Friday, are the result. (I moved here 7 years ago, in my early 20s: Very much a blow-in. The fact that I don't like the newest developments puts me in the early stages of the process, but a part of it none-the-less.)
-
This arguement has been back and forth a few times, and my opinion is based on not much because i didn't like inside72 and i've yet to go into adventure, but i'll say this - I am accquainted with many-a 20-something from neighbouring areas that now see LL as a place to head to for a friday night out, coming some distance. I love LL during the day midweek, but come friday evening it is full of pumped-up Gary-boys avec gel and v-neck, all looking for the ladies-who-straighten in their camo skirt and ugg boot combo that are also from Bromley. Why they have to come here to find eachother is a little beyond me. But 30-somethings live locally and are feeling the pinch of our current economic times. Darren the Estate Agent from Bromley lives with his mum, and his cash is disposable. 30-somethings tend, on the whole, to go out slightly less than their revved up 20-something equivalents, or at the very least be a different spending-potential category (pint with the papers vs. lager and shooters for the boys, small white wine or fruit based drink for the ladies). The wise business plan is attuned to that. Also, just for a bit of info sharing, local A&E admissions from pub fights on a friday all used to come from the Red Star in Camberwell, victim from SE5. Now they come from outside the Bishop, victim from South Norwood or Beckenham. But essentially, the chain cocktail bar looking to separate Darren from his latest comission has it's place alongside the child friendly cafe on our lane, because the demand is there. I don't go out to that part of the lane on a friday night, confident in the knowledge that my chosen absence will not affect the success of such bars.

Sorry, LordLane - please see on that and similarly rubbish neologisms...

Previous thread with EXACTLY the same title too... oh dear. Last time, new businesses: just post saying "hello, here's my business" or message admin about advertising. We're not fucking stupid, and personally I'll now never use your website on principal because I rather resent crap attempts at manipulative marketing. Merry Crimbo.

I was always led to believe that the real wow-factor is if she can suck one through a hose-pipe ;-) Has been a gluttony-free day thus far in the number5 house: Mrs.number5 on nights so asleep, I opted for a final day of racking up credit before the big day - porridge, run, light-lunch. Dull, and very jealous of you all, but means I can feel free to eat a ridiculous amount tomorrow!
