  2. Did she sign an inventory when she moved in? If she did, and the bed wasn't on it, she's buggered. If she didn't, she can kick off about it.
  3. atila the gooner Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm not sure if a particiular story I read in one the papers yesterday was an early contender for April fools day most ludicrous story of the year competition, or true. Apparently a local authority is putting padding around lamp posts and street signs to protect people from bumping into them whilst texting on their phones. Call me old fashioned, but if a person wishes to make a complete arse of themselves by not paying attention while they are out walking, isn't that > their problem for being so bloody stupid?? If they are that irresponsible let them crack their heads open, which may teach them a hard but unforgettable lesson. Harsh but fair. Not really sure why, but that reminded me of a few years ago when all the tactile paving (bumpy pavement to tell blind people they're near a crossing point) in Wimbledon was filed down because all the old dears were complaining to the council that it was hurting their feet!

  5. Hurrah, CPT :)-D Of course, this was my cunning plan all along, the whole Castle thing was just a ploy to throw you all off track! :-S Anna, Sean, good plan. Dulwich Park Fairy, will you be joining us? I feel I should buy you a drink.
  6. Good work Arsenal last night, bloody good result! Poor little hard done by victims ;-) Sorry couldn't resist after Atila's post >:D< Loz, I'm sure the CPT will be showing Chelsea tonight, and yes, some of the regulars are Chelsea fans, so you'll be welcomed. If you don't fancy it, I guess The Mag and The EDT will be showing it too...
  7. We'll see you there.
  8. I shall never own a car... Can't afford a penis extention, so I bought a Les Paul instead.
  9. > Could you now answer my earlier question about understanding why a lot of women wouldn't want to drink there? No, I'm a bloke, and if I had the first idea how women thought, I'd have written a book and would now be a very rich bloke, and I'd never have rows with Mrs Keef, but alas I'm as clueless as every other bloke out there. Seriously, I understand what you're saying, and I know I'm not going to sway you, but I can't agree with it. Now I've said that, I'll probably get knifed next time I walk past there, sods law and all that. > I do know some of the people who drink there and have seen them involved in plenty of aggro. I'm pretty sure I know who you are talking about, and they look for trouble wherever they go, which includes most of the bars in ED if you're unlucky enough to go to one the same night as them. Piers, I wasn't there that night, but have heard all about it. Bless her.
  10. I'm not going to make predictions about this, don't want to curse anyone. Think Arsenal have a hell of a job, but nothing to fear as such. They can score goals, and didn't conceed an away goal, so not really a bad position to be in. The Pool have another week to wait, which I don't like. It is a tough one to call, all I will say is that we are capable of getting goals, and if we get 1, I can't see Inter getting the 4 they'd need... So basically I'll go as far as to say if Liverpool score, they'll go through. If they can't score, they'd best make damned sure they can defend!!!!! RE: West Ham, I work with a couple of big Charlton fans, and they always felt Curbs had maybe been instructed by the club not to push for Europe, because they didn't have the squad to cope with it... No idea if there's any truth in that, but sure hammers fans don't want that kind of mentality!
  11. CPT - Cos it's home and the staff are the lovliest staff in Dulwich. EDT - Cos I missed the last one there and it's one of the places I like to go when not home. Would have gone for the Hearn, but it's a bugger to get home from. Another one we should do soon is The Plough. We had christmas there, but so many people couldn't make it. They serve reasonably late, and are friendly guys. RE: Someone asking about The Cherry and/or The Bishop, I think we counted them out as they are so busy on Friday nights. The Castle and The Vale seem to be on no go lists.
  12. Bellenden Belle Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > How important are our surroundings in the grand scheme of things? When you think of all the great communication that goes on here - in cyberspace for gawd's sake - then surely it's the people that matter. That is the most important point, noone really thinks much of the uplands, but as we said when we agreed on it, it's the company that matters. DPF your last post is stereotypical and a load of rubbish. Okay, we're not doing the Castle, fine, but have you ever actually seen any trouble in there, honestly? I'm not for a second denying that it's had trouble over the years, that would be like claiming that bears don't sh!t in the woods. However, I have never seen a fight there. I have seen a bloody massive street brawl spill out of The Vale, I have personally broken up a fight in the CPT (definitely not a rough pub), I have seen someone punched in the EDT, and in The Bishop (I won't even start on about when it was The Forresters, but it's really not thast different now)! The Mag used to have an amazing rep for violence, but that was some time ago, so not tarring it with that brush now. Same could be said for The Plough. Basically, even the nicest places can have trouble. I have seen several people forcibly (sp?) removed from the Black Cherry and actually felt more uncomfortable in there one night a couple of months ago than I ever have in any other place in ED. And amazingly, they don't even sell Stella, they sell cocktails to decent people.

    Map of Europe

I'll try it later, but I'll be genuinely amazed if I reach 20. geography is not a good subject for me!
  14. Well I expected to beat them at Upton and was wrong, so not beyond possibility. Still have to go with The Pool though, they're hitting form (too late guys), and the hammers have just been thoroughly battered at the weekend.
  15. Don't mind The Mag, but wouldn't call it pub as such, what with the pizzas and booth style seating. DPF I'm not a regular of the Castle by any stretch, just thought I'd point that out. I do however have to question your point about women feeling threatened in there. I don't think anyone had suggested that before, and if there was trouble, it would be a bloke who got his head kicked in.
  16. Mag was done for the party though... All for EDT, especially as it was an early one, and I missed it for some reason. Anna please don't feel uncomfortable, you've made a fair point about your experiences, and are probably one of the best placed people to give an opinion on said establishment.
  17. Dulwich_ Park_ Fairy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Can someone define what they mean by an "old skool boozer"? To me it conjures a picture of drinking crap beer in a poorly decorated bar, in an atmosphere of potential violence. Was forced to drink in too many of them before I moved to London. I don't think that's a good description at all, where does the threat of violence come in to it? And why crap beer? :-S For me, it just means a pub. And to add clarification to that comment, I wouldn't describe anywhere on Lordship Lane, except perhaps the EDT (JUST) as a pub. CPT = Pub :)-D Not to everyone's taste, but not violent, and the beer is generally good in my book.
  18. Lets forget the Castle, as I don't like to think of people missing out because of the venue. The Vale..... I'll go if Piers does! ;-) Market Porter would be great, but can't see people bothering.
  19. Edited cos I hadn't seen the other thread.
  20. Do you remember a few years ago when for a reason that now escapes me, there was a gap of a couple of months before the last game. England had won the title, but had to go to Ireland to try and get the Grand Slam. Ireland won it, and the losing side were then presented with the championship trophy. All very weird.
  21. Sorry but we'll have to miss out on this. We've just had too much on at the moment and are desperate for some nights in, so it's Badminton then straight home for an episode of The Wire followed by Dexter. Shame as I hate to miss a trip to Ganapati.
  22. Firstly, apologies for the tone of my last post, it wasn't meant so, but having just read it back it's rather arsey. I'm not a regular visitor to The Castle, and won't lose any sleep if it's not there, just would like to give it a crack sometime... Obviously CPT is a fab idea, but it has been done.
  23. I'm sorry, but I think that's crap, the people that run The Castle are very nice, and just cos it's had a rep in the past doesn't mean we're all going to get bottled. What about the people who feel far more comfortable in somewhere like the Castle or CPT as opposed to the more Gastro type pub (yes I mean me). Not trying to be arkward, but reputations aren't always deserved, and once upon a time the EDT was bloody rough! So far The Castle seems to have more votes than anywhere else does it not?
