  1. CPT have always had poppies, as has Harry's the newsagent on Underhill, by the chip shop.
  2. Does anyone remember a kids programme on around christmas time. Used "The first noel" as the theme tune, and was about a boy who had a magic box that transported him in to a magical world... Tried searching for "magic box", but no joy.
  3. Not getting that, but I've noticed it seems to be a lot slower from my home PC, which is really fast on most things.
  4. Anna, how sh!t were we last night?!?!?!?
  5. Sydenham is rubbish for going out, that's it's only problem. There is a "middle class pub" now (The Dolphin), owned by the same people who did The Dartmouth Arms in Forest Hill, but it's bland and horrible in my opinion. There are lots of random little shops on the High Street, and a couple of really shabby places. However, I think now is a time to try and buy in the area, because over the next 5 years, I think it'll get nicer and nicer. NOTE: I use the term "middle class pub" as a reference to a thread on a Sydenham forum where lots of people were moaning that it was too chavy in Sydenham, and that they deserved a middle class pub... Absolute gold, you wouldn't believe it! I posted once on there, then discovered this forum and have never looked back.
  6. I agree with what you're saying Sean, but I'm willing to bet that half the recommendations on here are for people's mates, partners and family. As for the pubs, yes they're upfront and honest, but they are still taking the p!ss in my opinion, and as another forumite said to me recently, it's a matter of time before those nice people that are sponsoring the forum see all the free advertising, and decide that they may as well not bother sponsoring, and just chuck a post on every now and then. Have any of these pubs offereed space for the birthday party, or chipped in to it??? If they have then I'll take my hat off to them, but I bet they haven't!
  7. Asset I'm sorry, I don't approve of what Louisa said to you, but I think Loz was just trying to ease the situation, and I thought it was quite good. Note: comment deleted Anyway, what sort of music was at the street party?
  8. Don't know why Penge has always had such bad press, it's alright!
  9. Why do people care if people do come on here for some free advertising, the pubs seem to be doing it all the time, and not chipping in to sponsor the forum, and I for one think it's a bloody cheek! No one else seems to mind though... NOTE: I'm not including the book swap thing in that comment, as that's different.
  10. I had loads of school friends who lived in Brockley, and it's always been a mixed area, and I suspect always will be. There are some amazing, really really lovely big houses there, with massive gardens. Then you walk down the road and you're in a different world. There used to be a great cab office there that sold beer, fags and home made Jamaican Patties 24 hours a day! :)-D As for Sydenham, I'm loving it there (having had my reservations at first)... It has wicked transpart links (and East London Line coming soon), lovely houses, easy access to ED and Crystal Palace, some nice parks, and a high street with plenty of potential! I noticed recently that there is a Blue Mountain Cafe opening up there too!!! Now Blue Mountain marked the start of it all in ED, so Sydenham could well be next..... I'm moving to Penge!

  12. Good point batman.
  13. Yeah, but if it's not good/exciting enough to get you through the first series, you're not going to push on through another 2 series, that would be like drip torture! Anyway, like I say, I intend to give it a crack, always looking for new programmes to get addicted to, keeps me out the pub ;-)
  14. Original Guns N' Roses line up would get my vote!
  15. LOL >:D< I remember that Shearer thing well. He was a dirty bastard throughout his career! Plus he cost us Sol Campbell's goal against Argentina in 98 cos he went in on the keeper with his elbows flying.
  16. Is there a CD player? I'd planned to burn a half hour disk (old school). Otherwise it means putting my phone on music only mode and using that, but that's a pain in the arse.

  18. Good point!
  19. Refuse to believe it's that good, the last 2 episodes of The Sopranos have been wicked!!! Piers was telling me about The Wire, and I intend to give it a crack. However, a third party in that conversation had also seen it, and dismissed it as nothing remotely special... Different folks and all that.
  20. capt_birdseye Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Here we go again! Another thread goes the way of > "new vs old". Can't we just let it lie for once?! That's not fair, Android didn't start turning this thread in to the same old same old. Also, it's unwise to dismiss a debate that keeps arising, because things keep arising for a reaon. Better to address them I think. Anyway, I for one would really like to see some nice big chain shops on LL. Not snappysnaps and superdrub, and definitely not KFC (Because Favourite Fried Chicken is better ;-) ), but some nice not too flash, not too shabby shops. Food wise, I wouldn't mind a Subway!!! Agood electrical shop would be good too. But there is room for both chain and small businesses, both offering things that the other doesn't.
  21. Agree that Rio will keep his place. I know I may be a biased Liverpool fan, but Rio should have lost his place to a much more reliable (if not quite as "exciting" Carragher! Woodgate is a great player, but can't stay fit, King may have the same curse as Carragher in that he's viewed as versatile, so will never stamp a claim on his obvious best position... He is a good player though, and oh how spurs have missed him! RE Lamps, yes yes yes drop him! And a quick word for poor Heskey, I would have LOVED him to have kept his place above Rooney just for one game! Rooney needs to be dropped once, then he might get over himself, get his head down, and be the player we could be if he wasn't such a knob!
  22. At least they're charging a reasonable price, unlike more "reformed" bands. Still can't be arsed with them though.
  23. People may think I'm a total bastard for this, but to be honest, they get paid for their job, and it should be the duty of the forces to help them settle back in to civilian life. Problem a lot of the time (and this is from talking to a couple of experienced army men, not just made up by me) is that lads (and increasingly lasses) are joining up at a very young age having spent their whole lives being told what to do at home and at school. They then join the forces and are told what to do there. They then come out aged 25 - 30 with no idea how to live in the real world, and do things for themselves, and it's probably a lot of these who end up on the streets. They have often given a lot, and it's the forces that shouldn't forget them!
  24. I still haven't updated my team, just can't really be arsed. Shame I can't access it from work, then I'd give it my full attention! ;-)
