  1. Bloody hell, Huguenot certainly felt strongly!!! ;-) Good on him, I hate people parking infront of drop kerbs... To me it's as ignorant and selfish as these people who moan about tactile paving because it messes up their shoes, or is hard to walk on in heels!
  2. Soz Sean, didn't mean to sound agressive. And you're right, I just wanted to make a quick point earlier, and ended up writing an essay. You are completely right about the landlord situation. I was just saying that I don't understand people being against chains simply because they are chains. Rent aside, I think there's room for both, and a nice balance.
  3. Isn't the lane where the little boy lived who was getting one of Bah Bah Black Sheep's three bags of wool?
  4. Yes, and it's sad. But, it's life, the landlords own the property, and want as much money as they can possiby get for it, and if a chain has the money to pay them, it doesn't take much to work out who the landlords will go with. So, it follows that it's not the chain, but the landlords who are the big evil here... At the end of the day, it's all business. I don't want to see any local business closing, I was just saying there's room for both. Besides, said drinking establishment is about to open another shop/bar in Clapham are they not.... Can't be doing too badly ;-) EDITED: Because I got a bit arsey.... Long day :-$
  5. This whole local company V big chain thing really gets on my tits... The fact is, there are a load of empty shops on LL that no local person has bothered to take on and open anything good in. So, if a big chain wants to take it, and people like to go to it, why does it bother people so much?!?!? If a Weatherspoons opened on "The Lane" (see other thread), it would get custom because it does cheap, simple food, and it's a good place for a couple of cheap drinks to get you started. No one would stay there all night though, because once they'd had what they went there for, they'd go to the Black Cherry, or The Bishop because it's totally different. There is room for both!!!!! If a Primark and a Top Shop both opened on LL, I bet the little clothes shops would still make a load of money, because they offer something different (expensive tat ;-) sorry, couldn't resist). Those people that shop in the little local shops now do so because they want to. If they wanted clothes from chain stores, they could easily go and get them. I for one like the idea of having some big chain names close to home... Obviously want to keep the little guys too, but I think they can coexist... Having said all that, I still think Nero were a bit out of order, but who really cares?
  6. Think it might be, as a few can't do it.... Or the week before which is my birthday, so everyone can buy me loads of beer!!! :)-D Only jesting.

    Quiet room...

*Wanders in and slumps in to chair* *Wonders why some people on this forum don't read a post fully and consider it before they attack it having missed the point completely* *Notices boys drinking and decides to to worry about anything anymore* :)-D
  10. First few scenes of Mona Lisa. Oh, and I was watching a film called "Last Orders" the other night (Michael Cane, Ray Winstone and Bob Hoskins), and I've-met-Jimmy pointed out that the pub is the Wishing Well on Bellenden, and you see various bits of the area. Can't think of any comedy ones right now jim_the_chin, but E.D. is genius in it's simplicity! >:D<
  11. Fear n' boozing and I have called it the strip before, but only in a p!ss taking manner. I only heard "The Lane" recently when my sister said she'd heard it.... It's rubbish, but it is easier to say when drunk! I usually just point in the general direction and say "I'm going sown there for beer"... People get what I'm saying ;-) As for "Town", I had a girlfriend a few years back from Oooop North, and when we stayed in Dulwich for the first time. she told me she was going to go in to town. I of course instructed her to walk down to Lordship Lane, and jump on a 176, only for her to look at me like I was mental... That said, Lordship Lane is rather more lively that the actual centre of the town she was from! If anything, I actually like "The Strip", just because it's such an obvious p!ss take >:D<
  12. Heh heh heh heh you said Breasts (Done in Butthead voice)

  14. For some reason this subject came up at a family dinner a short while back, and my mum said that she'd fed both my sister and I, and part of the reason was simply that times were hard in those days, and it was cheap (well free). She said that some of the richer (I won't say posher, because my mum is actually very well brought up, she just isn't wealthy.... See, class is bo!!ocks) mothers would look down their noses at her because she wasn't bottle feeding. Times do change.. As I've written that, I've realised that I have actually written the same story on this forum before, so this is all just a repeat. Lets close the thread there! ;-)
  15. Mines a w8ooi or something, but is about a year old, so there will bemore flashy versions by now. Mine's more designed for the walkman than the camera. That said, the camera isn't bad at all for a phone, in fact, it took some of the nicest photos I got when I went to Australia (evil camera destroying beaches!!!!!!).

What did you infer from "For my part, I agree with Chav & TT, breast feeding is spot on, but I think some people could be more discreet about it..." Sorry if I am misunderstood. I have NO problem with breast feeding. I think it is a very very good and important thing. I think women should feed their kids when and where they / the kid so chooses. However, I really don't think some women need to be quite as abvious about it. Other women have said on this thread that it can be done anywhere in a discreet manner. I don't think that breast feeding makes you a yummy mummy, I was airing an opinion about a certain type of person, that is all. I am sorry if that makes me a bit of a prude. I do suspect however that it's not only men who find it puts them off their beer sometimes though! I can't believe I've been drawn in to this, I was only going to make a quick post then flee :-S
  17. That sounds fun! Has anyone ever been to the film showings at Horniman's Gardens? Mrs Keef and I have meant to go a few times, but it's either rained, or something has come up.

Yeah James, you've been posting on this forum since the beginning... Show yourself man :))
  19. Exactly right. Nowhere did I say that people breastfeed to be yummy mummies. EDIT: "Exactly right" was aimed at *Bob*'s post. James, I totally agree with you about breast feeding, but again, I don't think anyone on here has really said it's a bad thing... Also there have been a lot of p!ss take posts, that I don't think should be taken too seriously.

Plus I have 2 buses to take me home from there >:D
  21. Surely it's just an estate agent's dream. People seem to be willing to pay huge amounts to live in ED, so their commision is great in the area.
  22. I'll give another thumbs up to Lovefilm. We pay about ?15 a month, and can have up 2 3 DVDs at one time. As soon as we send one back, they send out the next available one from our queue. Have never had any bad disks. Only thing that has happened (about 4 times in 2 and a half years) is that I've sent one back, and they haven't received it. As soon as I've reported it, they've sent me another disk... They said they'd be sending me forms to fill in about where I posted the disk and that sort of thing, but have never had these forms.
  23. Put this in the other thread. "Did anyone see that thing about breast feeding on TV last night? Now I'm all for kids being breast fed up to and beyond 2. But 8, come on, that's just weird!" For my part, I agree with Chav & TT, breast feeding is spot on, but I think some people could be more discreet about it... A good friend works in one of the bars on LL, and has said to me he has felt uncomfortable in the past when a table of 3 women were taking it in turns to feed their sprogs with as little subtlety as possible. He felt like they were almost daring him to say something about it... Surely that is aggressive breast feeding, and not really necessary? This next comment might get me shot down, but there you go.... I feel that sometimes these women are being so obvious about their breast feeding simply to show the world how succesful they've been at being an ED "yummy mummy", and that if the trendy thing to do was to bottle feed, their breasts would be back in their bras before you could say "blue mountain". Not so long ago, breast feeding was looked at as very working class, and something for the poor and the hippies...
  24. It's all a bit much isn't it. I'm bored at work and want... no, NEED(!!!) the forum to be inetersting today, and what do I get... Breasts... and not even in a good way! :(
  25. Did anyone see that thing about breast feeding on tv last night? Now I'm all for kids being breast fed up to and beyond 2. But 8, come on, that's just weird!
