  1. There is a thread on here somewhere about her. I think they said she got better.
  2. "Will someone with some time on their hands quantify the inversely proportional relationship between incidents of teenage violence and incidents of teenagers receiving good old smacks about the ear-hole for being mouthy little gobshites." - I can tell you that my mouthy little gobshites were routinely slapped round the head and went on to carry out lots of teenage violence. Hope that is helpful Brendan!
  3. I hereby declare everything that came out of my mouth after 10pm last night null and void due to excess consumption of alcohol and diminished responsibility!!
  4. But armies don't train for nothing - they do war.
  5. Rico - Instead of trying to just rubbish a person's argument by calling them an extremist, try to read, analyse and counter their argument. If you want to know what I beleive, then you should ask, not assume. I am in the Green Party. I believe a lot of what is written in the following link and even helped formulate some of the policies, as did a lot of other ordinary members so here is a bit of light reading for you to start you off. Click on the different topics to find out what they are about. Let me know if there is anything you don't understand and I'll try to explain it to you, but stop calling me an extremist.
  6. What makes you think I want a society like Zimbabwe? You are good at making assumptions about people because don't seem to understand what you read.
  7. Rico, where do you get your information? From the 'Free' press? The only major newspaper that is not owned by a huge corporation with fingers in all the big pies is the Guardian and her sister paper The Observer. Even they have to pander to populism to a certain extent in order to make a profit and appease corporate advertisers, so none of the 'Free' press are able to be impartial bearers of news. The BBC has tried, but has been attacked by the powerful and brought to it's knees. Please point me in the direction of this Free press you talk of.
  8. I'm gona try to make it, so see u all there.
  9. We need a massive redistribution of power
  10. I'm a class fighter - and as 'chavs' seem to be kicked about as much as asylum seekers and illegal immigrants at the momenet, had to take my place with them and fight their corner. Plus I am a bit chavvy - I have a pitbull and used to fight a lot.
  11. James - I do blame the breakdown of society on the Thatcher ideology which was taken even further by Blair. The whole get on your bike thing broke families down to nuclear size on a massive scale as they moved away from the support of their local community and extended families. Then the rise in consumerism as the saviour of our economy saw people addicted to consuming the very planet they live in with built in obselecence being the only way to keep profits from dropping. People became only useful if they consumed and the ones who couldn't keep up were thrown away. Strong cheap drugs flooded the country after the riots in the 80's and just like in America with the Black Panthers, the militancy gave way to crime to feed addictions. We all rolled over and gave up. I remember my Dad, who is an old Communist telling me that most people only revolt when they have no ther way out, but in the Russian revolution an almost overnight rise in conciousness of the peasants finally changed centuries of oppressive serfdom. (ok what happened after may not have been exactly unoppressive!!) The modern elite control the media pretty much exclusively worlwide - but they can't plug all the holes. The planet, which has pretty much been silenced during the last hundred years of rape and plunder (like the voices of the oppressed) has started to complain, and even the media barons who have a vested interest in ensuring the perpetuation of the status quo, can't drown out her voice. In my view, the only way to get over the coming catastrophic payback, is through communities bridging the age/sex/rage/sexuality/class etc gaps, learning how to share the dwindling resources including water and re-learn from our ancestors that what you take out you must put back.
  12. One of the things I am interested in is the aspect of class and oppression accross all oppressed groups. When feminists say that women were treated worse than men, they need to look at in context of class. Upper class women were not treated as badly as working class men. Women property owners got the vote a long time before landless men. In today's society if you are rich enough or climb to the top of whichever greasy pole is yours, you will be accepted amongst the elite if you are female, non-white or gay. If you are from a working class background you can still make it to the top if you are willing to copy the master, distance youreslf from your roots and be as ruthless as the elite, but if you are poor, no matter what colour/sex/sexuality you are, you will still be looked on as sub-human by the elite but it is deeply unpopular to mention class oppression. Since Mrs Thatcher's defeat of the unions and the working class, the oppression of the poor has gone on unabaited. Unless we get more people willing to fight for the seemingly undeserving poor and 'chavs' I can't see any end to the oppression of all the oppressed sub-sets within this underclass of our society and of the world.
  13. mine has gone funny too. I'm using Opera but prefer firefox.
  14. But that doesn't satisfy his salacious appetite quids
  15. You guys are so moany. I love waking up and hearing birds, but I don't wake up until about 6:30 or 7 no matter what is going on outside. You might need a bit more physical exercise or alcohol to ensure your sleep is deep enough!
  16. I don't really get freaked out easily, but this is pretty horrible. Why would anyone feel the need to stab someone so many times? The last time I felt quite so grim about something on the news was when that Austrian girl was found in her dad's cellar. I find it hard to come to terms with that level of sickness in people, because I am always an optimist and believe everyone has some redeeming feature. I would like to know why.
  17. James I agree with your second to last post totally. I did a dissertation on the nature of oppression and decided it's not a black/white, gay/straight, male/female thing. A lot of gay activists blame straight society, black activists blame white society and feminists blame the masculine society for all their woes, but the reality is it's not a straight/white/masculine model it's a master model and if you can act like the master, whether you are black/female/gay you can be admitted to the elite, but acting like the master includes perpetuating the oppression of the others and distancing yourself from them and whatever oppressed minority you come from, the biggest hurdle or impediment you could have is being low class or at odds with the master model. Follow the master and you become more accepted. A brilliant book I read by Victoria Plumwood called "Ecofeminism and the Mastery of Nature" gave me the idea for my dissertation. It's actually much more interesting than it sounds and way better, more rounded and comprehensive than anything written by some other sexless, uptight women who call themselves ecofeminists.
  18. Mine is Mockney cos he seems so brainy
  19. Come on you can't post something like that without a link!
  20. I don't know what the correct term is, but I know that being the white mother of mixed race kids, that I get totally pissed off if my kids are called black, because that then means I, the person who carried them for 9 months, gave birth to them and nurtured them, do not exist. I don't care if that's incorrect, because I am not allowing anyone to push me out of the picture.
  21. I'm not going to get into the race thing cos I'll just get the hump, but for anyone who is interested here are some interesting statistics for you. You have to cick on the 2000 bit to get the most recent per capita murder rates. I thought Colombia was top of the murder stats, but according to this it's El Salvador, Venuzuela then Jamaica. Uk comes behind Spain, Switzeland, Finland, Northern Ireland and Sweden with England (including London!) coming even lower behind Canada, Portugal, Poland and France with the bottom 3 being Morroco, Burma and Pakistan.
  22. I'll admit to anyone that I believe we need a Green revolution based on social and environmental equity and the dismantling of centralised, over-powerful corporations/government/banks etc in order to prevent the devastation of the planet and millions of peoples lives that will result from the remainaing resources grab and the implosion of capitalism.
