  1. OK, consider this: it was talking about a mugging on Landells Road on this forum that led me to contact my local councillor to ask what can be done to improve the street lighting. Seems like a positive outcome to me, albeit limited. I agree that constant moaning about crime would be a bad thing. I'm just not convinced it's that bad on the forum. In other news: People parking to get to Lloyds cashpoint: argh! Selfish gits, they are. Old CPT: grand. Never been in the Plough as it just looks so shite. Went in the Castle once and it scared me somewhat.
  2. I think there is plenty of perspective here. Yes, we do live in a big city and so this stuff will happen - does that mean we shouldn't talk about it? It's far from being all we talk about: just look at all the discussions about the Drum, about curry houses, about the shops on LL.
  3. Vote? Ah yes, there's a word that takes me back. People used to queue to do it during elections; apparently they felt priviliged to be able to or summat. Heh! People in the past were stupid. Losers.
  4. Thanks Ko, have just sent an email asking what can be done to improve the lighting. One step at a time, I think, so I didn't mention the road surface or the pavement.
  5. Still not sure whether I can make it. Doubtful. But I'll try.
  6. Has anyone ever tried Zin Oriental? My neighbour says it's good, but those pictures of the food outside the shop have always scared me away as they all look utterly foul.
  7. Hm, how odd. My message doesn't seem to have appeared. I'll try again, and apologies if it ends up appearing twice. Ko, it was at the Lordship Lane end of Landells Road. I agree that the lighting's very poor (much like the pavements and the road surface). Who did you contact about it? I might have a word with them myself.
  8. Eh? Since when was the Sea Cow Chinese?
  9. Ahem. May I direct your attention here? Thank you. edit: although whether opinions have changed since then is always open for discussion. And I guess we didn't cover worst. Still, that link makes for a good starting point.
  10. Wow, already? Excellent! Time to make good on my promise then; I'll stop off on the way home tonight. edit: maybe I won't, actually, given that it's a Monday and they won't be open. Tomorrow, though.
  11. Kids, eh?
  12. He's well 'ard, obviously. Speaking of crime: a woman had her bag snatched on Landells Road last night. At least I think that's what she was shouting about in amongst her screams for help. Sadly by the time I'd got on the phone to the police and got outside to have a look I couldn't see anyone. Hope she's OK and not too shaken up by it. The police said they only had one other call, which surprised me. But on the other hand it sounded as if perhaps someone further up the road took her in while they made that call. When she started shouting it took me a moment to realise what I was hearing (and then mute the telly and confirm it) before I grabbed the phone. Perhaps by the time other people did the same they'd also heard whoever it was up the road talking to her and decided everything was in hand.
  13. Hm, yes. I think I'd vote no most of those. It does seem fine as it is to me too. Mockney - do you mean all those awful group-tarting icons people put in comments? Or is it some other horror I've yet to come across?
  14. Good grief. If you think that joke was a steaming pile of manure, text 'a cow' to 86593.
  15. Just back from a very enjoyable night at the Drum - note the time, wink wink nod nod etc. Dave proved to be a friendly man indeed. I think I may have spotted Shambles getting off the bus, but it could just have been the booze. Also, I may have persuaded the Mrs to log on to our fair forum. Anyway, time to go and get some pre-hangover unconsciousnesss.
  16. It crashed my browser so I won't be going back. (Latest Firefox, Windows XP SP2 if that helps.)
  17. A chapter?
  18. I didn't make it to the Drum the other night, but I'm out again tonight with the Mrs and shall suggest we give it a go.
  19. Knowing the book business, I'd guess they'd probably love to tart up the shop front but can't afford it.
  20. It's compelling.
  21. Argh! Yet another date I can't do. (Not that I can manage many at the moment.) I will turn up to one of these things one day.
  22. Funny, I saw your name over there the other day and wondered whether it was the same shambles. Can't be too many people using it.
  23. It was me. I think your answer was close enough to pass muster.
  24. This is perfect for a tie-in with the fair on goose green: have the miscreant clapped in the stocks and sell tickets to watch EDFers pelt them with rotteon tomatoes and such.
  25. I love 'do you post?', 'only to the east'. I can just imagine it being said accross the bar at the EDT and other hostelries.
