"and say what must be said instead of being polite." Alright then - f&ck off and don't come back.
-
Immaterial, have you met PROSouthwark? Or gallinello? I think you'll all get on famously. Actually, knowing the Left, you'll hate each other and plot endlessly behind each other's backs, and bicker about whether it should be "People's Co-operative Democratic Movement" or Co-operative Democratic People's Movement".

"riding through a park, which I'm sure is not allowed" Says who? Your Mum? Seriously though, can't someone just start a thread with the title "Cyclists - we hate them" (and another one entitled "Children - anooying little f*ckers aren't they?") which can then roll on endlessly and be ignored by the more enlightened amongst us?
-
Forgive me for going off on a tangent PROSouthwark, but you may have noticed that states that style themselves "People's Republic of XXXX" don't have a great record of providing their citizenry with much in the way of health, wealth and happiness. Can I suggest that (from a marketing perspective) you may be better served by a different tag? How about South London Democratic Maoist Utopian Collective (Bench Manufacturing Cadre)?

"I think the fairminded among this group are reading in agreement" ..........but they're too shy to post anything in support It is those of us who enjoy mocking DERANGED LUNATICS who mock, and you are providing some quality opportunities.
-
Can't you see that the PEOPLE are LAUGHING at you because you're a LOON? Randomly CAPITALISING words is a dead giveaway.
-
"well documented fact" = load of old claptrap from deranged conspiracy theorist I suggest you keep yourself to Camberwell, where the people are more serious-minded. In ED we're far to busy worshipping wealth (and on Saturdays, we worship Satan! Or you can pop into Green & Blue if you prefer).

Freedom for Tooting! I mean, Dulwich!

"And those with children are very accomplished at making the world feel that everything should be made more convenient for them just because they have made a certain lifestyle CHOICE!!!" A lifestyle choice that brought you into the world, Dom......oh well, no going back now.

My bank card has been "compromised"....a warning
DaveR replied to FatherJack's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It could be one of a number of things - individual arrested/property searched/goods seized and your card details amongst them - in an e-mail, on a bit of paper, on a clone, or could be failed transactions detected as fraud by a retailer. 'Compromised' just means security has been breached in some way i.e. your private info is in the hands of someone who shouldn't have it. -
I just read the first page of the interview (couldn't face any more) If you didn't hate Bono before, you would after reading that. I already hated him because he is such a c*nt.

No, you don't need a slow cooker. You need a decent sized pan/pot with a lid that fits. This is a fairly simple recipe: beef stew It looks like a lot of ingredients, but you don't have to include all the veg, and most of them you just pile in before you put it in the oven. The basic technique is he same for any other casserole - brown the meat, add liquid and veg, and cook till done. Longer cooking for beef/lamb/pork, shorter for chicken. For the liquid you can use stock, beer, wine, or even just water. If you don't use flour the sauce will be thin, but will still taste good. If you throw in a tin of chopped tomatoes they will cook down and thicken the sauce. It's quite difficult to get it really wrong - just allow enough time for the meat to cook properly.

"The most dangerous thing about cylists is that they think they are smaller, lighter and less of a risk to others" No - this is true. It is dangerous when cyclists think that they are of no risk to others, or do stupid, needlessly risky things. Even then, the risk of serious harm is substantially less than with car drivers. I'm sorry to hear about your partner's father, but it's a pretty rare occurrence compared to accidents involving cars. The cyclist can be sued - no insurance doesn't mean no cause of action - and if the cyclist was breathalysed then the police have at least taken some steps to investigate whether he should be prosecuted. The police don't routinely stop cyclists because they (consciously or otherwise) also recognise that the risk they pose to others are small - although there has been a crackdown recently on jumping red lights. Most complaints from drivers are not really about harm caused by cyclists but annoyance, and deep down there is resentment about the fact that in a car you have to sit around in traffic a lot but on a bike (or a motorbike) you can nip through or round the queue and get on your way. It certainly annoys me when I'm in the car, but as I'm also a cyclist I can rationalise it. You should try it, rgutsell.

"I believe in a socialist form of democracy based on mass workers' organisations, as existed in the early stages of the Russian revolution." I believe that history has shown this to be an impossible dream, and inconsistent with basic human/familial/social instincts. That's why no state has been able to combine functioning socialism with real democracy - if you give people a choice they choose something else. It's also why some sort of market based economy is inevitable - political and economic freedom go hand in hand. If there is no official market there will be a black market. This also applies to the labour market, even more so in these times of (legal and practical) free movement. The current strikes will be resolved one way or another without any significant change in terms of employment or working conditions, and certainly without any legislative change affecting employment rights, for example. They are politically irrelevant (as MM has already observed)

rgutsell, there doesn't have to be a choice between being 'anti-authoritarian' and imposing a load of rules without any real justification - and you don't seem to be offering any real justification. Bicycles are more lightly regulated than cars because they create less risk (HGVs and buses are more regulated than cars because of the greater risk - funny that!) There have been lots of threads on here where drivers have a moan about cyclists, but I haven't seen one yet that contains any suggestion of injury to a person or damage to property caused by a cyclist. That's not to say it can't happen, or even be potentially serious, but the risk is very small. And, as others have observed - mudguards? WTF??

"They only get one or two stars out of five" If you look at the way the stars are calculated, and look at William Rose in particular, the actual fidnings are perfectly OK and what I would expect from a local butcher's shop. I have bought meat from one or two of the places on Rye Lane and it was poor - not make you sick poor but just poor quality meat. I used to buy from some of the local butchers around Brick Lane when I lived in the area and it was much better, but was also more expensive - surprise, surprise, you get what you pay for. The seafood from Wing Tai both in Peckham and Camberwell is good, although I would only buy to cook that day (a good rule for seafood wherever you get it)

The guidelines on taser use say only when threatened with violence, which is different from 'on the floor but still struggling' The fact that there has been an alleged assault on a police officer before he was put on the floor is not really relevant. It does leave the police in a difficult position - what to do with someone who is not compliant but is not actually violent (or capable of being violent, because already restrained). I don't think tasering is the right answer, but it's not the worst case - the 'victim' was definitely still puting up a decent fight. What it does show is that you cannot effectively control the way that tools given to the police are used - it has been the same story with long batons/extendable batons, CS spray etc. when introduced it is said that they are necessary to deal with knife-wielding crims, but pretty soon they are part of the everyday kit and fair game for use on anybody. Jimmy, don't you think there's an analogy here with your cyclist/motorist thread? The fact that the police are given legal powers and legally held weapons makes it more important that they are able to keep cool, and don't give someone a dig because they are 'probably a bully'?

Home made pizza (if you've got a breadmaker or a food processor it will make the dough for you) Kids can put their own toppings on and see whose is nicest when they come out of the oven!

I think Connery played Daniel Dravot(?) and Michael Caine was Peachy. One of my favourite films.

Crystal Palace Road - why is it named so ?
DaveR replied to KidKruger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm sure I read somewhere that Barry Road is part of the old boundary between the manors of Friern and Dulwich, and has been a right of way for a very very long time - certainly before the crystal palace arrived in south london -
"Tell Laura I love her, and a quick shufti on google reveals his name was Tommy" ....is the right answer. Back to you, Muley
