  1. Copy this in Search engine. Then follow blue underscour subjects. National Statistics Online - Browse by theme - Road accidents. For Wealden Sussex.
  2. There is a constant advert that keeps coming on with three ladies in an art gallery, they seem very happy as it is an ad for Tenner Pants, I think that after so many appearances they should not be dancing but swimming. I think that the advert is degrading and too personal to be shown so often.
  3. What did the plumber do? What was the problem? If he changed a washer he would have had to turn off the water valve either under sink or in the pavement in the front of house. You might find a stop valve in the cellar. It is very unuseual for a qualified plumber to leave without testing the tap for running water befor leaving. If he charges for the Callout then there is your answer pay again for the extra Callout.
  4. The Water tap in the kitchen is normally stright from the main supply so is drinkable, If you flush the toilet that will be from a storage tank in a loft. If you have access to other parts of the house look for a leak it will be a big one if no water comes from your tap. If a shared building somebody else might have turned off all supplies to the building to work on their system. Most likely the road main is out of service. Have a look in the road for water.
  5. Admiral Stockdale first names James, Bond, but it did not get him in the White House
  6. If you open it or look at the postmark it will be from Brazil. Its a scam.
  7. Burial. Have you thought that there are so many people die of disease or incurable illness, should it be safe for the remains to remain there as now rights have changed giving the authority the option of using that plot again after 50 years, therefor disturbing any disease germs that might have survived? Relatives look on the fact that a Grave is a lasting place that can be veiwed and place flowes and pay your respects. But looking at graves how many do in fact get any person come there, as so many show no sign of care or flowers. The intention is good but it can also be very upsetting for a relative to bare. A Cremation would remove all traces of any contamination, even from the Ashes. Regarding the storings of the deceased for later Cremation. It is interesting reading Southwark Services Offered that Weekend Overtime rate is charged. My own Funeral has long since been aranged and payed for in advance, as I have no decendants I do not wish to leave the arrangement and cost worry on the head of any far distant relative. Not a subject that all like to disgus but we will all go there one day.
  8. There is always this alternative. Garden Burial It is possible to bury a loved one in your garden. The law is contained in the Burial Laws Amendment Act 1880. A person who knows the circumstances of the death and has a lawful certificate of the cause of death must first register a death with the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages. It is then necessary to obtain consent from the local authority to enable the burial to take place. A body comes within the definition of "clinical waste" and as such cannot be disposed of except under the provisions of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and the Environment Protection Act 1990. A licensed operator is usually needed but a local authority may waive the requirement in special circumstances. Remember it is a criminal offence to dispose of "controlled waste" otherwise than in accordance with the Acts. Before you consider such a burial stop and THINK what you would do if you ever decided to move!
  9. This subject can be seen in today?s Newspapers and Southwark Council Website. Due to the rising costs some Crematoriums are going to stock pile the Bodies after the service to save the cost of the fuel that has to pre heat the chamber, then a continuous series of cremations will be held even days after the service had been held. Those waiting for cremation could be kept in Council Buildings, in the coffin or body bags. The Ashes normally are collected the following day but the delay could be days, as nobody will know when the cremation did take place. This does question the viewing as all relatives may see the deceased put in the Furness. Southwark Councillors have recommended two rises in the charges in a year. It takes from 70 minutes to 200 minutes to do a Cremation, this is done as soon as possible after the service when the Mourners have left. There will be extra movement of the deceased by transport and Bearers to a Refrigerated Store, and return at a later date. These will add to the costs, will there be any saving at all? The practice of hiring a Coffin, that is folded after the body is removed and replaced in the hearse, will have to be delayed. A distressing subject but one that might give a great deal of distress to a relative if this is not known beforehand.
  10. Having to travel on those old buses with wooden seats that are on the night service is a disgrace, if you got splinters in your bum you should go to the doctors, get him to make a 60 minute makeover in your sitting room.
  11. If it was out of service you would not have payed for a ticket. Did You? Or were you a Free rider?
  12. I tried silk sheets once I thought that I might fall out at the side, so I put my Zimmer in beside me and walking stick the other side, I have to have four pillows to prop me up. I woke up with a jolt as I had slid out of the bottom with my nightshirt up my legs reflecting in the mirror, not having my glasses I thought that I was entering the Blackwall Tunnel. I have gone back to using cotton sheets and when it gets real cold I put my old army overcoat over the bed,and my beret over the pot to stop it freezing.
  13. There are some nice Scout Huts in North Yorkshire, or there is a Windmill in Brixton. What about one of the Norfolk Broads?
  14. I thought it was Henry Sully.
  15. My personal view is that the least I fill in on any form put to me the better. To give your religion openly could be seen to others as not of their faith. How true can a returned form be? Many just object to giving their details and put the opposite. Whatever you disclose will at a later date become Public general knowledge.
  16. Dave. "Kippers swimming in the tank in Fishmongers window" I think they only call them kippers once they've been smoked - not sure you would ever have seen them swimming! Yes you picked up on my Red Herring.
  17. Sally. Do it now, you have friends that will be willing to make your day memorable dont go for a quiet day let those close to you be involved and join in the arangements. Plenty of Photo's. If it is possible now do it. We were aged 29 when we got married at St Clement Church Friern Road a newly rebuilt church, the reception at St Thomas Hall in Lordship Lane near Basano Street, a dark and dismal Hall, the pictures are black and white, so no great keepsake there. So now we have been married for fifty years, still just the two of us with our memories.
  18. It might be to your advantage having now resided here a whole year, going to look at the many, many websites that already cover E.Dulwich, these do cover most of the community. What have you in mind? A new website can take years to obtain many members, it is not not normal to co-opt members from another existing website.
  19. Bumpers on Buses Free parking spaces Policeman on crossroads doing vehicle direction. Seeing the crew of a Fire engine hanging on the moving Engine Taste before you buy Kids on stilts Kippers swimming in the tank in Fishmongers window.
  20. What do you expect in Boardale Road. There could have been a ship in Lordship Lane once near the Plough on the river Barry. Then again with a single letter change it could have been a right Poo.
  21. The East Dulwich feel. East Dulwich can feel nothing as it is only a place it has no feeling. Is this meant to be ; ? How does a resident of East Dulwich feel ?? The normal way that most feel is between the forefinger an thumb. Or testing the temperature in a babies bath with the elbow. There was a case of a feeling in North Cross Road that happened one late evening in a parked car posted here some months ago between a couple. What that feeling was can only be described by the onlooker. There is the soft touch wearing woollen gloves. Then there is using the heavy hand. Or even the cold hand or sweaty hand. You might get touched for a couple of bob. But none of these are a feeling. Those who suffer in an accident feel real pain. I am told that there is a crowded train feeling, where a cry goes out ? Who Did that ?. When the nearest male passenger gets a slap. There was the back row of the cinema feel with the seated man in the dark auditorium kept nodding, the usherette said why are you nodding, he replied that his girl friend was also holding his tie. How do you feel?
  22. I am going to put my mirror up for sale, all I see is the same old bloke looking at me,and when I try to touch him he does it first, I have tried turning my back but he does the same, i'm now eating my Iceland meal quickly before he gets at it. Question - why does a mirror reflect my image right to left but not top to bottom ------------------------------------------------ If you didn't have feet you wouldn't be asking this question. The mirror doesn't reflect your image right to left. Whatever is actually on your left still appears to be on your left when you look in the mirror. The right-to-left business is all from the viewpoint of some other person looking at you, and that person sees your left as their right.
  23. A policeman with a proper Helmet. As worn by Jack Warner. "Evening All!" P.S, Pith Helmets of this type were made at Poppers Toppers at the factory corner of Crystal Palace Road and East Dulwich Road at the back of what was then Gordon Garage. There were always stacks of them in the entrance into Grystal Palace Road, the white ones as used in the film Zulu. I remember that Neil McCarthy one of those actors often used the George Canning Pub, Neil was a gifted pianoist, and was six ft 1inch tall, fluent in several languages he died aged 51 of motor neurone disease.
  24. Whilst studying at Heber University in the thirties, we had to believe that the various subjects were true as taught, as only the Tutor having access to a book we relied entirely on the spoken word or shown on the black board. Only having a pen that was wooden with a steel nib that we dipped in the inkwell at the top of the desk, and lost most of the ink between the well and the one exercise book that all subjects were entered. It is hardly surprising that very few of us did graduate with any honours at all. I like to think that the early education here in my locality was the best that could be given in the time of ensuing war, as the Tutors were now replacements, as most of the Students along with the permanent Tutors were evacuated away from London. Very few of us stayed on here throughout the war to obtain a very substandard education leaving age fourteen. So if I am not always up to standard, as Norman would have said; ? Don?t laugh at me because I?m a fool?.
