Saw in my copy of Living South that Surma wins "Best Indian restaurant in East Dulwich...as voted for by the registered users of the East Dulwich Forum" Does our endorsement mean we get a free meal ?;-) Some interesting stuff - including a two pager on Bellenden Road (shops and art as opposed to tarmac and parked cars)

Heard its going to be called "Salon de The" and serve up teas in a French / Moroccan style setting...and who said E.D was becoming poncey ?

Am still hoping the Montpellier will open and be all things to all men (and women) I used to live in Walthamstow, and the Nags Head was superb - great selection of drinks, good staff, and a great garden

Yep - I think there is a limit (maybe 6 months) to the exemption where renovations are ongoing

In the next hour I will be checking out the great organic fruit and veg stall set up outside the small art gallery (Idea Space) on Bellenden Road - and the gallery sells home made cakes on a saturday as well - yum Then I'll go across the road to buy some lovely organic bread from Lucius & Richards

Nero - I think your point is a little forceful, "exciting" may be the wrong word - but what you turn your nose up to may be exciting to other people.

That's smart - if people with second homes have to pay council tax (or more) on the property - won't this just be passed on the tenants ?

I agree with SeanMac - I think we should "care" what happens in Peckham - East Dulwich is not an island (no matter what the threads about raising water levels might say) Also disagree that posts about Peckham should be lounged - but that's another matter

Any observations (apart from being less smokey...) about the pubs and restaurants you frequent since the smoking ban ? I've noticed reserved signs on the tables in The Gowlett (for people coming in for food presumably) and a more varied crowd - age wise (families to retired folk) Surma was lovely, knowing that nobody was going to spark up half way through your lamb balti as well

I'm glad I started the thread - and what a wonderful picture Louisa, what a crying shame the station is hemmed in and cannot be appreciated for what it once was Bar Story and the little Italian restaurant aside there's not much around the station of note. I've picked my wife up from the station a couple of times (usually when she's had a few drinks!) at night and can understand what people have said. I do think however that during most times the station is manned, the platforms are pretty open and lit, the ticket office has been recently painted and the outside is hosed down each week Its heading in the right way people :)
