  1. Can people please take a sneaky photo of these "celeb" types in Sainsbury's - we could have a rogues gallery thread
  2. They must live in the area - London Lite had another Sarf London piece last night - bigging up New Cross and the new Hoxton / Shoreditch / etc Although it still mentioned to fit in reviews of Inside 72 and Bar Story...
  3. Annasfield - excellent ! Went past the Monty last night around 7 - the bouncer looked mean, and the staff outnumbered the customers, no TV in sight
  4. Saw something v similar today sitting outside The Bishop, 3 car shunt as a result of one driver looking for traffic on L.L instead of the car in front. Luckily no damage or injury - but everyone did stop, get out and check
  5. Peckham Experiment - thought that closed years ago ?
  6. My solution is to buy some beers and go to a mates who's forked out for Sky Sports...great view, nobody walks passed the screen, get to turn the sound up, I get to watch the match and my mate gets some beers
  7. Best curry is usually the one after 10 pints...
  8. Seanmlow - any luck with the print out of this thread ?!
  9. We've bought just off Maxted at the end of 2006, and its been great - and this is from a North Londoner Our street is small, people of all nationalities say hello - we've been to people's houses and invited neighbours over - something that doesn't happen in London at all. A good indicator of the area was that the previous owners wanted to ensure that WE were going to be good neighbours - as much as getting a good price for their house. As other posters have said we love being minutes from all L.L offers as well as the station and cinema on the Rye - its the best of both worlds, and we paid less for having a SE15 postcode. By the way - luddite, loved the stream of consciousness...
  10. We've currently got 2 Islingtonites living with us for a week or so - their comments about our area - great transport links, getting a seat both ways into Blackfriars - difference in price with the cinema - lack of drunks and threatening looking people at the station - great local pubs without the gangs of transient fun seekers - thriving independent shops and restaurants I think they've turned...
  11. Drinking to The Police "Roxanne" - you either drink when they sing the words "Red light" or "Roxanne"... or both Repeat a few times and job done
  12. ?4.25 for a boiled rice (serves 2).... you're having a tin bath
  13. Do you think the management would take notice if their attention was drawn to this thread - or if anyone printed this out and posted it to them ? For people living nearby, or wanting it to change it might be an idea I think it worked for Green and Blue sometime back
  14. RWC, then The Contender...my wife is a saint
  15. Subsidy or not (and I don't think there are anymore) - demand will determine whether a business will flourish or not I support the local shops in the area and hope others will do the same
  16. We bought through Roy Brooks - we had a good service and they seemed to know the local area well, they also kept following up with the solicitors on both sides. Recommended
  17. Keef - word of advise. Go for more conservative hair on your wedding day - in 20 years time it'll still look classic (and your kids won't think you look like a tit)
  18. Mockney Piers - brilliant
  19. Will be watching from behind the sofa
  20. Let me put it into perspective - Ian Wright or Jade Goody ? ;-)
  21. Ganapati - try Lucius and Richards (if you haven't already) - fantastic eggs benedict and all sorts for breakfast. Talking of which, on a nice Saturday morning, its great grabbing a newspaper and sitting outside either L&R of the Crossroads Cafe watching people buying their organic veg and the home made cakes at Inside Space across the road - while Matt and Richard at Casa chat away to customers...I think with Bellenden - as the French say "celebrate the difference" Maurice - re subsidies - you may be right about the survival of the fittest (or survival of the shops that fit the demographic) but I think the relatively lower rents in the area will enable more innovative/unique or independent shops starting up to have an opportunity to trade - OK the footfall isn't like L.L during a Bugaboo sale but as Peter Kay (Alan Potter) in Phoenix Nights (Series 2) says "build it and they will come" * * He also said "garlic bread is the future" but that's another matter
  22. Brendan - isn't Jerry St Clair in Phoenix Nights ? (cut to classic episode of him singing in Asda..."Come and get your black bin bags"...)
  23. Hi Ganapati Not sure what "so blah" means, but if you speak to a few shopkeepers and business people you'll know that there are a few new shops starting up in the near future - Vietnamese Cafe (whatever that is) where Casa used to be - Beauty / therapy place inbetween the Sunsplash Bakery and the Chinese takeaway - Bayberry is extending with a cafe at the back - pending planning application Would be nice if the Peckham Experiment site and the one opposite would be leased - anyone else have any snippets of info ? I think restaurants might be putoff by the seeming lack of support - Bellenden Brasserie is an example of a nice looking place always being empty. With the Montpelier now serving decent food any restaurant in the area (such as your namesake) needs to be excellent to keep going strong
  24. Do all members go for a brisk daily constitutional ?
  25. Funny - I was just thinking that there have been many new names in the last few months on the EDF
