  1. it's not Logan is it?
  2. Oh dear re the Latino White thing. Mind you I seem to recall frm somewhere that the Irish are the blacks of Europe so I should be fine!!!
  3. Relationships are hard full stop and made none the easier today with economic pressures, social changes and evolving gender roles. Culture may play a factor in that, something I can vouch for in a marriage between an atheist, sunarban spaniard and an Irish catholic farm girl. We share fiery tempers and centuries of oppression by the church, frm that point on it's for human beings to overcme all the difficulties that living together for the rest of ones life throws up. 'Mixed race' bleating is a red herring, and if there are more kids in homes I'll warrant because people are more likely to meet each other across racial divides in inner cities than in home counties housing estates and will consequently have more economic and social woes than their suburban 'unmixed' counterparts. Becase of course a dry statistic is essentially meanngless without further analysis, even a made up one ;)

I'm not proposing we do anything matthew, I think we've intefered quite enough in that country in the past. In fact we should be conspicuous about our neutrality in this as even tacit support or sympathy for the reformers will be counterproductive. I do support Iranians right to live in a healthy democracy, and for all the terrible events done by the Islamic conservatives post revolution, Iran has slowly moved towards a path of genuine democracy even if it is limited, god knows ours took a long time to evolve into something even approaching what it is today and many would argue that it is still designed to concentrate power in the hands of the ruling elite, but I digress. If this election has been fraudulent then this is a really bad step backwards, and the paramilitaries supporting ahmedinajad using violence, intimidation and murder are wholly awful and should be condemned. Macrobans statement was flippant, ignorant and implicitly supporting the actions of the security services and militias by suggesting a moral equivalence. But I think you can stave off from building your Andersen shelter just yet, I'll be sure to give you 45 minutes warning at the appropriate juncture. ;)

Yay. The old calling cry for those who stood by and watched hundreds of thousands die in Bosnia. "they're all as bad as each other innit". Tsk. Let's see security forces using live rounds and paramilitaries murdering students in their bedrooms in order to maintain repressive regime through possibly stolen election, and people campaigning for free elections supporting a statesman who wants greater freedom. There may well be violent or radical elements in the latter group but it's not institutionalised. Yeah, they're all scum.

    Cool. Keep us posted, thanks.
  7. Feels sort of songy to me. Can't put my finger on it though
  8. I see that people in Belfast are exvercising their rights to maintain a homogenous culture in the face of swarthy provocation by people opting to hang around with others of their own ilk (in about two houses by the sounds of things). How noble.
  9. Too easy!! All yours Brendan
  10. Of alfalfa baron stock, a joke at my birth ultimately led to my mother's death. After joining the army, I eventually rose through the military ranks to compound the joke.
  11. The wolf of three little pigs fame?
  12. Ash in Evil Dead?
  13. I have to say barley left me cold. I found it impossible to engage emotionally with the characters, they all felt symbolic rather than real which was tierra's great strength. Gallinello, I'll be watching this film next week, looking forward to it ad it goes.
  14. It'll tAke more than twitted posts to make a revolution, the usual method involves lots of dying sadly. I fear for the next few days. Weird move by the clerics who were swept into power on a wave of student unrest to male the same mistakes as the Shah. I hope they back down and allow a peaceful transition of power. Early indications suggest they just be considering it, I can't see ahmedinajad managing a coup withou their support. It is however fascinating stuff I'll grant you that.
  15. Tierra y Libertad was a great film, though the seventeen hour debate on the nuances of collectivism does try even the most hardcore loach fan's patience.
  16. Will hunting?
  17. I was going to go mr creosote!!
  18. The Dirty Projectors-Bitte Orca. Fans of Talking Heads or art rck in general I highly recommend this to. Jason Lytle's debut solo effort is a bit Grandaddy by numbers but no the less lovely for it. Be nce to see him challenge himself a tad though, maybe he's just too happy and content to manage another Sophtware Slump. Ooh and St Vincent's new one, Actor. Lovely but i'm sure SMG will say it's very me
  19. Great point about idealism vs expediency. Each must be tempered by the other but at the moment we've (generally) lost sight of the former. I like to think of myself as a pragmatic socialist with a liberal disposition.
  20. ?Ja ja Esterl?n! Pero en s?rio, solo hablamos en Ingl?s en este foro. Nunca en Wopo. Esp?co esta bien however.
  21. and good cross post Santerme
  22. Ha ha, very nice JTT. Although on a serious point, of "I reckon they'd be queuing up to be quite honest." I agree with you thta there are probably quite a few who would be, and may even serve as a recruiting tool. Even more reason why...blah..blah..etc, you know what I'm going to say.
  23. I voted Anti Capitalist Global Revolution. Oh, in this country, err green.
