  1. In Springfield (state unspecified) they are called 'Stonecutters', they have a song and everything
  2. wow, the unlikeliest of godwins!! In all fairness so were socialist, communists, liberals, in fact anyone of a political persuasion that put them at odds with the Nazis. In this case they were also a direct competitor for favour doing corrupt old boys network, not to mention, having long cultivated an air of mystery and power beyond what they had, something of a target for the paranoid conspiracies that the nazis loved to indulge themselves in. The phrase hoist by ones own petard springs somewhat unkindly to mind.
  3. I've got the S2 and so far I'm jolly impressed. Don't bother with the admittedly beautiful and impressive live wallpaper feature though, your battery will last about 6 minutes.
  4. I've never really done [auto]biographies as such, though have read the odd yarn about people's extraordinary experiences. I remember one by some chap who ended up in prison in Bolivia for coke smuggling which was a real page-turner as it was so entirely improbable. Found it... Marching Powder
  5. I echo everything carnelli says above, with a double echo about the sharpness of the knife, and haev a good knife sharpener to hand. I'd also add that depending on the dish you rarely have to slice the onion especially finely. On a small onion three slices each way per half is fine. Just remember to sweat them down nice and soft, ie 5-10 minutes on a low to medium heat, stirring occasionally to ensure no burning.
  6. I do loads of trashy, most of it sci-fiish i guess. China Mieville is writing some entertaining stuff, I love Neil Gaimian too, or Alaistar Reynolds, Dan Simmons or even Iain M Banks for the more Space Opera type stuff, but can't beat the classics* like Philip K Dick, Asimov etc. I have yet to wade into Missus Mockney's towering collection of Maeve Binchy or the ones by whatever that girl who's dad was the Taoiseach's is called. * a very geeky definition of the term obviously
  7. I seem to recall a coming of age film i watched in my childhood where the protagonist discovers that her dad and fellow freemasons just use it as a mechanism to go shagging prostitutes without their wives finding out. My opinion hasn't really changed in the intervening 30 years.
  8. "This has left me very disappointed, as I had hoped I may have been up for inheriting the earth." I think that may have been the Greek. Or was it the cheesemakers?
  9. Hmm, are we sure the apron doesn't have a square and compass depicted upon it?
  10. Be aware also that the centre is being rebuilt at the moment, so is actually located in some prefabs at the top of the the estate. Mind you I haven't been for a couple of months, so it might now be operational.
  11. I think generally the expected decline rate is about 25%. Up that significantly for weddings abroad. I'm pretty sure as it's in Brazil that no offence will be taken (although I just got back from one in New York, but the missus just used it as an excuse to go shopping).
  12. There are one or two Ps3 ers out there.
  13. I'm partial to a good tequila too.
  14. Sounds pretty happy to me. Gin is the noblest of boozes. Whisky the classiest and rum the, errr, funnest? Vodka is simply cheating, fit only for lurid drinks.
  15. Doh!!! Blimmin' geese everywhere. Edited one (times) for being a twonk by Mockney Piers
  16. Another good article. http://jlmd.blogspot.com/2011/05/fallen-edifice.html I must say I want to be persuaded by his heretical pragmatism, but....but...allardyce.....
  17. tbh I'd rather the care and attention was focussed on my child and not a ring binder, but my standards are clearly misguided and apparently below par ;-P I'm sure you'll find something that suits you, and I'd suggest you focus your energies on finding that rather than badmouthing this one.
  18. I know, absolutely gutted from Ilford when I heard that this morning. Probably lowest on my list, well, maybe after warnock. He stands for everything that West Ham stands against.
  19. I'm inclined to write off Steiner as dangerous crackpots with unhealthy ideas and philosophy, but I guess why throw the baby out with the bathwater. It seems to me some of their ideas about a more holistic, rounded education that doesn't focus as heavily on academic learning has a great deal of validity about it. It'd be great if some of those ideas could be incorporated into more mainstream education. I still wouldn't touch them with a bargepole mind, but then again I wouldnt send my child to a school that barked on about virgin births and well meaning magicians with delusions of grandeur either ;-)
  20. "Also love my G &T with a couple of slices actually" I take it you mean Hendrick's Gin in which case this is a perfectly acceptable practice, otherwise it's just wrong wrong wrong!!
  21. Their greendale branch just got an outstanding from ofsted so I'm inclined to think they know what they're doing. My boy loves it and so far he seems blood borne disease free. Sheesh, and they say our generation are over protective, wherever do they get that impression from?!?!
  22. snooker balls?
  23. will they think they're some sort of fertility offering to the gods?
  24. Did anyone catch the All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace last night? I particularly liked the bit about the hippy communities breaking down because their attempts at sweeping away power structures simply meant that the bullied had no means to stop the bullies. ie hippies are just as bad as everyone else, just smugger about it.
