  1. Jack Johnson ... 15 millions. It's a sick world.
  2. I do sympathise Atila. It's a sort of vicious circle, you are quick to anger and have very little middle ground between thoughtful poster and abbrasive personal attacks. We both know there are people who like to wind you up and then stand back and point 'ooh isn't he awful'. But because you are pretty much guaranteed to react like that, then they keep doing it. Btw bob isn't one of them, you just let him wind you up, alan dale is another. I've allowed them to wind me up in the past and now just let a sigh if they're in danger of doing so. My advice is instead of knee jerk reaction just breathe and click on another thread. Seriously, that rejoinder to Huguenot was really uneccessary wasn't it.
  3. Oh come on Atila. If you've upset giggirl, possibly one of the least abbrasive, consistently good humoured and generous people on the entire forum, at least have the decency to listen to what's being said, albeit briefly, before hurtling accusations straight back at her in the manner of child told not to hit his little brother saying 'he hit me first'.
  4. I know. You're not a word twisting type of guy keef. I realise I hadn't been very explicit in my point, I just thought that a curious conclusion to leap to is all. If this wasn't the drawing room I'd ask for a manly hug, but as it is let's just fill some pipes wth quality shag and smoke them in comfortable Chesterfield.
  5. I think you know me better than that. I'm sayin that 'care in the community' as it was originally temred was a cynical costcutting measure that was originally justified by the idea that the standard of care would remain high, but in reality often means that vulnerable people have to fend themselves, can end up on the streets or just have much reduced levels of care. Any of the above would mean our chap may not be monitored for his medication at the least, at the worst he may now be alcoholic, on drugs or on the receiving end of mental abuse even violence; again any could be responsible for his state of distress. I expect some peple to twist words but I'm surprised at you keef. Of course all supposition, hey may jus have been a complete arsehole!
  6. Thinking about the chat show, how about we take some of that money and give it to Melvin Bragg to make the Soith Bank Show at the beeb. Or if he's knocking on then some young replacement in our dumbed down age ... Err ... Fearne Cotton?
  7. I'm not sure why your negative opinion should somehow supercede anyone's positive one atila? As bob said this sort of thing is totally subjective (although sounds like we all agree that he was being paid too much, but sadly not a damn thing we can do about it, I used to get just as annoyed by Ericsson's wage for mediocrity in his field). For the record I thought he was an excellent film reviewer, he helped me become genuinely passionate about cinema, especially the more alternative films when he was on channel four with The Incredibly Strange Film Show. The Jackie Chan episode was a classic (before jackie made more mediocrity in Hollywood). I wasn't a big fan of the chat show (or the format full stop) though it was passable entertainment especially if he had genuine rapport with a guest. It was more the awful obsequious nature of the 'big name' interviews like Maddonna that annoyed me; god if ever someone deserved taking down a peg or two, or actually yet laughing at themselves, it's her. Whereas others like Dustin Hoffmann with genuine humility were actually little bit revealing and entertaining. Obviously somewhat ambivalent then, in summary, breezes.
  8. Oh wow congratulations!!!!!!!! Oi, hang on, weren't you due a day after me, you can't jump the queue....wait your turn!!! ;-)
  9. Back on topic I have to say that on reading the OP my first thought was he was probably mentally ill. Thus KKs stress and this chap's distress are a failure of duty of care, making everyone the vicim of cyncal cuts in spending the main issue here. Asylum seekers, benefits, all red herrings if you ask me, not that anyone is mind.
  10. My feelings about NTV are hardly a secret, let's just say that tale of woe doesn't surprise me one iota. Go the extra 500 yards to Hoopers or EDT, direction dependent, would be my advice.
  11. Or whether Diss should remain a town on the Norfolk/Suffolk border not a million miles from Naaaadge, where the Js have been known to holiday.
  12. Indeed it looks like a long way off being a done deal thank goodness. Mind you if it carries on with tabloid trash like http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/basshunter-too-clingy-says-big-brother-housemate-katia-1864368.html then I might have to consider boycotting it regardless. For a paper that said it wouldn't even do royal reporting, how low is schleb big brother reporting sinking?!?
  13. Oh dear. That leaves me now totally without a choice for a paper; well a daily, I still have the trusty Eye.
  14. Yep go wired. Doesn't have to be wireless
  15. Still waiting....but thanks for the wishes..will keep posted...
  16. I thought that was called the babel-fish paradox, or is that its reverse? ;)
  17. Oh guys..congrats,thats so cuuute!!!
  18. I was rather hoping about 7:16ish. Another time perhaps.
  19. ;-D god I hope you're right MM!!!
  20. Obviously stevenage coming from 2-0 down at half time to win 3-2 in the 89th at the first ever competitive final at the new wembley, the morning after huguenot's stag do and the morning my wife agreed to marry me was a sporting moment for myself, doubt it's on youtube though.
  21. I'll see what I can do about shimmying along for one, but truth be told I doubt it. If I do it'll be early, fancy a g&t for old times' sake ther quidsy?
  22. Then you haven't looked very hard have you vince, you've chosen that conclusion rather than come to it. The modern suicide bomb as a terrorist tactic is the invention of the Tamil's (mostly Hindu) in their (now defeated) struggle for independence but yes perfected by the Islamist (note Islamist, not Muslim, a nihilistic political movement that owes much more to the red brigades and bader meinhoff than it does any imam, though characterised by a devout if bonkers and extreme take on Islam) hezbollah. In war time we obviously have other examples such as the kamikazes and many examples in the Modena era (Chinese civil war, Korea, Vietnam) of soldiers strapped wih explosives taking out positions or command posts. The hunger strikers in the maze prison were prepared to die on a point of principle that their fight was political and military, not criminal. Yes we can bandy about emotive terms lime atrocity, and yes obviously blowing up innocent people is both despicable and technically criminal, but to dismiss the political element and bring in racial or sectarian generalisations is both facile and unhelpful. The good Friday amnesties have ultimately proved bobby sands and co's point that it was indeed political. As for quids, I'm by and large in agreement that people wishing to move here should make an effort to assimilate some of the values but ultimately be good citizens. Of the preachers I direct you to the post about how we tolerated those recruiting for insurgencies and rebellions all over the world for decades, much to the upset of many other countries. I believe the term is blowback. Oh and hats of monniemae, top post.
  23. Cheers loz, will look into it, a comms engineer mate gave me similar advice but actual physical tech scares me, code and stuff is easy compared to that. Womanofdulwich, I've been a gamer all my life, but I guess online stuff didnt happen to me til i was in my thirties so difficult to judge how to deal with it for a youngster in this day and age. My parents did ration games, just as they did telly and everything else, so go with your instinct and make sure the homework is done. Gaming can be addictive, I had to rein in a bit of a World of Warcraft addiction a few years back; it never got even remotely out of control, but I found myself a bit obsessive about it. The main thing is, as long as it doesn't take you over, then of all the things that one might do it's cheap, its not especially unhealthy and it's waaaaay better than drink and drugs isn't it. I'm a bit obsessed with call of Duty at the moment, but it's a short term thing, once he hits level 75 he'll get bored, then it'll be months before the next decent game comes out and hopefully he'll get some fresh air in the mean time ;-) Mind you...18, I'm sure they'll work it out for themselves, it'll be fiiiiine.
