Psycho-educational assessment - recommendation?
nikki73 posted a topic in The Family Room Discussion
Looking for someone to do an assessment of my 8 year old's learning. We suspect dyscalculia and maybe some other difficulties. Does anyone know of a kind and warm person who can assess her? We will do it privately as we no longer live in the UK. Thank you. -
Haberdasher?s primary school feedback please
nikki73 replied to midivydale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter was in reception at the camplin Street school last year. It's a great school. She was very very happy and learnt a lot. She'd be waiting at the door in the morning to go to school. There was a real buzz after they moved back to the camplin site and pride to be part of it. It's quite strict and very focused on literacy but there's also an emphasis on music as the kids get older. The staff really care about the kids. And they teach the kids to care about each other. Older children help with learning etc.Communications with parents could be better but if we were to move back to London I'd definitely be wanting my daughters to go back to htg. -

Moving (for work) with school-age child?
nikki73 replied to Saffron's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am about to move abroad for work with 5.5 and 3.5 yo. Foreign language etc. I think kids this age find a lot easier than us to cope with change. They might be unsettled in very short term but long term better for them -
I had terrible experience with riverford.perhaps a one off but felt threatened and cheated.

In my experience women are often those with the most negative attitude towards working mums.

When do I say I'm not returning to work??
nikki73 replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
i agree. you could also factor in your holidays accrued during mat leave. i personally would think twice about giving too much notice. Cirumstances change, they might offer you another opportunity etc -
Thanks for the tips. Went to decathlon. They are generally quite pricey but there s a cheap range which should work for our purposes

Going on first camping trip.looking to buy cheapish tent for family of 4. Has to be light as we are going by train. Where is best to buy?should I go for 4 man or 6 man.any tips welcome.thanks

I am considering doing this with my daughter as i love her nursery and logistically it would be a lot easier for us. But I worry that she/we will miss out on making friendships at the beginning of the year and that she might be very envious of all her friends who are starting school. If you have deferred entry how did it work out for you and soon do you have to tell the school?

thanks that's great
