    Great Gigs

I would really love to see Dolly - I think she's a real star - but I don't think I would spend ?75. She's due to announce a second date at the O2 (the Thursday) so if you do commit to paying that much then hold out for the second date rather than taking what's left of the first date (probably level 4 only). I'm not sure what she's like live but I have Jolene on my ipod and that sounds pretty dam good. If you want a cheaper night out I would recommend the Fleet Foxes at Hammersmith in May - brand new album.
  2. Hugs GG
  3. Take care of youself ????. I understand. I'm already history for the same reasons as you give. Before you go though, could you let me know if this is any good: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Every-Hand-Revealed-Gus-Hansen/dp/0818407271 So long and thanks for all the posts. Pxxx
  4. Oh LadyM you don't have THAT much time. Get off the forum and get on with it. Have a fabulous Christmas. Pxx
  5. Big hugs to you too LM. What are you even doing here? Aren't you flying off somewhere warmer?
  6. Oh dear Ladyruskin I see you went to Oxford Street; well no wonder you're down in the dumps. I'm also sorry that your homemade gifts were met with scorn - that's not the Christmas spirit. I would concur with LadyM - all I want for Christmas is a hug really. I don't think grown ups should expect to receive big gestures. Most children that I know get too much for Christmas - everything overdone. There's no need to be spending too much money. Best plan early next year. It's done now for this year though so get yourself a large drink of something and congratulate yourself for getting through pre-Christmas Oxford Street. A very good friend of mine works in Selfridges - he hates Christmas!
  7. Sorry Ladyruskin but I'm not feeling any pressure at all to buy anything. Just as well because I'm not spending. Spending too much/eating too much at Christmas (or any other times of the year) are a huge turn off for me. Christmas is what it is and you can't change it. The only thing you can change is your own behaviour. I suggest you avoid whatever it is that's triggering your loss of Christmas spirit because there's joy to be had too and it sounds like you're missing out.
  8. Wow Snowstrumpet was a hottie (her boobs are a bit Victoria Beckham but that's nitpicking). Well done Bodger.
  9. I have never once had a Christmas bonus.
  10. Yeah OK the dog is nice but Evie has a better wardrobe and knows how to work her accessories. She's a little on the slutty side but hey, it's Christmas so let's not judge her.
  11. I was in my dentist's chair the other Saturday and she came and delivered his lunch to him. What service. What a lovely lady. I shall definitely be needing a pie very soon.

    The Pogues

Thank you for that FJD - The Bottle of Smoke has raised a smile or two on this otherwise grim day. In the same vein, I give you the Body of an American. The cadillac stood by the house And the yanks they were within And the tinker boys they hissed advice 'Hot-wire her with a pin' We turned and shook as we had a look In the room where the dead men lay So big Jim Dwyer made his last trip To the home where his father's laid Fifteen minutes later We had our first taste of whiskey There was uncles giving lectures On ancient Irish history The men all started telling jokes And the women they got frisky At five o'clock in the evening Every bastard there was piskey Fare thee well going away There's nothing left to say Farewell to New York City boys To Boston and PA He took them out With a well-aimed clout He was often heard to say I'm a free born man of the USA He fought the champ in Pittsburgh And he slashed him to the ground He took on Tiny Tartanella And it only went one round He never had no time for reds For drink or dice or whores And he never threw a fight Unless the fight was right So they sent him to the war Fare the well gone away There's nothing left to say With a slainte Joe and Erin go My love's in Amerikay The calling of the rosary Spanish winde from far away I'm a free born man of the USA This morning on the harbour When I said goodbye to you I remember how I swore That I'd come back to you one day And as the sunset came to meet The evening on the hill I told you I'd always love I always did and I always will Fare thee well gone away There's nothing left to say 'cept to say adieu To your eyes as blue As the water in the bay And to big Jim Dwyer The man of wire Who was often heard to say I'm a free born man of the USA

    The Pogues

Well Brendan, Sally MacLennane and Waltzing Matilda are favourites. Then I switched to best of and there are just so many to choose from. Thousands are sailing, If I should fall from grace with God, Turkish Song of the damned, Bottle of Smoke, Fiesta. So much choice and so hard to narrow down to favourites. Lullaby of London would make it on to my Desert Island Disc list though. I never get tired of listening to that.

    The Pogues

On a positive note, thank you to Ratty for starting this thread and reminding me that I haven't listened to the Pogues in yonks. I spent a happy 40 minutes queueing in the post office with Rum, Sodomy and the Lash.
  15. You're not paranoid LegalB - I don't open my door at night if I'm on my own.

    The Pogues

It isn't supposed to be funny - it is a direct quote.

    Happy christmas your arse
  19. I'm loving today's Kings of Leon news. They've postponed their O2 gig this evening - because of fire on their tour bus at the O2. Couldn't make it up.

    The Pogues

I didn't discover the Pogues until the late 80s, just before they sacked Shane. To be fair they had cause; he spent many a set shambling around spilling his beer and trying to light his cigarette and singing seemed way down on his list of priorities. I saw a few shows with Joe Strummer before Shane returned. Shane is the best though. As shambolic as he is he has magic in spades.

    The Pogues

No I missed them but I saw Camille O'Sullivan on Saturday night and she sang Fairy Tale of New York (quite wonderfully) with her band, as an encore. Shane is the best. How is he still alive though?
  22. Loving the nipple tassles Luved
  23. Never ever thought Keef would make it to his 40s, let alone his 60s. Someone up there is really looking out for him. I saw Anita Pallenberg up close and personal recently; she looks like she's lived hard and it shows.
  24. Hugs Mr Ben Truly sorry. I hope you bounce back quickly.
  25. I've been listening to Cork's finest, Camille O'Sullivan. to get a fix of Bowie/Brel/Cave/Cohen/Reznor. The woman is feareless and was worth venturing out in the snow for in my party frock (despite being stood-up by a snow-bound wimp).
