  1. I've never fisked but I'm tempted to have a go. It sounds really dirrty. I don't think I can resist. Then, next time I'm late for something (and I always am), I can casually drop in "sorry honey, I was having so much fun fisking I lost track of time".
  2. The Italian Job - Noel Coward (camp as a row of tents) and Michael Caine.

    Precious

Has anyone seen this? I saw it yesterday and I wept buckets. It's not an easy watch to say the least but I would urge you to give it a go. The leading lady is way beyond excellent. It has Mariah Carey in it too (Mariah who "doesn't do stairs") and, guess what, she's excellent. Who knew? So there's yet another lesson learned not to pre-judge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5FYahzVU44 Whenever things are bad for Precious she goes to her her little inner fantasy world and it was a moving reminder that we all have hopes and dreams and we all aspire to a better life.
  4. No, not impressed. It's ugly. Not as ugly as the shopping centre though.
  5. I've spent over two hours in my hairdresser's chair inhaling all the fashion magazines. It must be a sin to have that much fun on Good Friday.
  6. There's a huge multi-storey car park behind the Brighton Metropole. Costs about ?8 for the day. You can't beat fish and chips by the seaside and a walk on the pier.
  7. It would bother me. People should be allowed to grieve as they see fit without a camera in their faces. If someone were not able to attend then an audio recording of the service would be more appropriate.
  8. My friend, with whom I stayed on Zanzibar, still had some cloves that his mother had had before she met his father. I don't cook with them to be honest but sometimes I will agitate them and then take the lid off and inhale the scent. It's one of my favourite smells; cloves, gardenia and lavender.
  9. Those (few) of you who were living in ED in the 80s (Thatcher's Britain) may remember the radio announcement of the Argentine invasion of Goose Green. It seemed a little close for comfort.
  10. Some of my spices are at least a decade old. I have cloves from Zanzibar and they are 12 years old. They age well (just like me).
  11. Not paying a penalty fare is a civil matter whereas giving a false name and address is a criminal offence.
  12. I saw "The White Guard" at the National and would recommend it. It's very moving but it has some real funny Blackadder moments too. I'm intrigued by this - I think it is an Old Vic project and it's taking place in the tunnels underneath Waterloo. Anyone been there? http://www.yournationlovesyou.com/
  13. LM you are an unsung heroine. I hope that when I'm 90 there is someone as caring and wonderful as you to pass the time with. There's no question that you have been a tremendous support for this lady. I know you will do the right thing and say your goodbyes. It's going to be hard and I'm sure there will be many tears. Be strong. Px
  14. You know you want them. You've earned them. Have them. They're yours. You're welcome. Px

  16. You're right - he is the bastard love child. The red hair is the dead give-away
  17. It's four in the morning, the end of December I'm writing you now just to see if you're better New York is cold, but I like where I'm living There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening.

  19. There's something very sinister about them; the mother looks as if she fell face down in a vat of botox (but not in a good way).
  20. Italian TV appearance didn't go to plan for Goldfrapp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxcyAQ_BIqk Tut tut Alison - miming!
  21. Wonderful stuff Narnia. Are they available for bar mitzvahs? Px
  22. Spring has sprung and the sun has tentatively bestowed some rays on East Dulwich. There are daffodils everywhere. So how come the irrational rage thread gets 100 times more hits than the irrational joy thread? What's wrong with us? Cheer the fuck up! It's the weekend already. Px

  24. You're right Santerme; it is both grim and breathtaking reading. I was very moved reading about these acts of bravery and I feel very humbled that there are such people in the world. My father was an ordinary man. I could barely be in the same room with him, let alone hold a conversation. I didn't know him and I don't think I cried when he died. He was joyless and angry and bowed-down by the day-to-dayness of just earning a living and getting by. He had lied about his age and run away to fight for his country when he was just a boy. He was captured and spent the war in a PoW camp. Just 16. He never spoke of it. Such acts of bravery were commonplace at the time but even so. However conflicted I feel about my father, his bravery never ceases to touch my heart.
  25. Iaineasy - you make me green with envy. I've had a go with a few orchids but none of them last the week. My garden thrives but I can't get anything to live in the house with me (sigh). Even a cactus.
