  2. Aww that's brilliant! I saw him in the Southwark News yesterday too - a little celeb :))
  3. Ooh I forgot to mention the kids playing in the street, that's got to be a pretty good indicator of how safe people feel!
  4. Aparently the ruins are what's left of the Villas that lined the railway and the chapel was built in the garden of one of these Villas to look like a ruin.

  8. PMSL I was going to blame them to but didn't want to be hunted down by the ED Scousers;-)
  9. Thanks for that all! I was reading somewhere recently about the Shelters at the green, they are putting some sort of memorial there for an entire wedding party that were killed when one of those shelters took a direct hit. Another awfully sad war story. Does anyone know if the sheters on the DKH estate were ever filled in?
  10. Then in true English fashion it snowed...
  11. I streetmapped the postcode and came up with this: "This is an out of date post code." *Does shifty eyes"
  12. This is one that always has me thinking whenever I walk down Quorn or Pytchley Roads! I heard years ago that the black metal fencing on the estate was made from recycled stretchers from one of the world wars? I know the estate was built in the 30's but not sure if the fences have been there as long as that. If you look at the shape of most of them, they do look like stretchers but it could be someones over active imagination! Anyone know if there's any truth in this one? Vicki
  13. I tend to just not answer the door, We do get the odd dishcloth seller and used to get the fish men alot but not so much recently, luckily I usually see them coming from my kitchen window and hide!;-) With the charity collections one, always check the bottom of the leaflet, if there's a charity no. they're legit, if it's a company no. chances are they're dodgy! Don't have nightmares!;-)
  14. I've lived at the estate end for 12 years and never had a problem, it's actually a pretty quiet estate, the usual little gangs of teens hanging about on a summer evening but not trouble makers. I'm always back and forth from Sainsburys and the station and I honestly feel safe (I am female BTW!) at all times of the day! The little block at the end is due to be demolished at some point and replaced with another block. It has squatters in at the mo, but they're quiet and have even brightened the place up with flowers and plants! Oh and house prices down this end aren't affected by the estate at all!!

    Dog Crap

Hi Bob, Not sure if you were questioning my dire spelling:-$ Or what I meant by fashionable? If the latter, I meant, when I was a child everywhere I looked people were walking dogs, then the dangerous dog act was introduced and gradually, there just weren't so many dogs about, now every other teen on the street has a staff or similar with them, and lo behold, dog poo everywhere! If the former - I apologise!;-)

  24. Hoping someone can help me a little here! My mum has asked me to try and find out something for her. She has a friend who's husband is a big fan of Hurling (the Irish sport!) My mum is sure she read somewhere that the 'inventor' of hurling is buried in Camberwell Old Cemetery. But I've Googled and Googled and I can't find any evidence of this. If anyone knows anything about this I would be most grateful for any info! Thanks, Vicki
  25. I saw Paul McGann and his actress Mrs coming out of Sainsbury's t'other day!
