  1. That is extremely helpful, thank you so much! My hubands Great-grandfather was a gravedigger according to the census so ties in nicely, though how they fitted 2 adults and 7 children in there is another mystery! Thanks for the link Louisa, will have a good look later! Vicki
  2. Morning all, I'm hoping someone with some local history knowledge may be able to help me, I am researching my own and my husbands family tree, and have found that my hubands ancestors lived in Rockells Place in around 1911. I grew up on Forest Hill Road in the 80's so know Rockells Place, but I'm pretty sure the houses round there are quite new, does anyone have any recollection of what was there before or when the current houses were built? Many thanks in advance if anyone can help! Vicki

  4. After having read your post very carefully, I have to agree that although this man didn't have to be quite so heavy handed, and could have perhaps said 'Excuse me I'm in a rush, do you mind if I uses the machine first.' It does indeed seem that you weren't actually using the machine but had all your belongings; cheque book, card, papers and purse resting on the machine and were using your phone, so to anyone else it may have seemed like you weren't using the machine at all, which can be extremely irritating to someone in a rush who has come into the back to find that only one till is open, and the bank is full of people! To sum up, perhaps he should think about the way he speaks to people, and you should think about not obstructing the machine before you are actually ready to use it?
  5. We are very sorry to hear of the difficulties you have experienced and heartened to hear from others of the good things we are doing. We want to get things right all the time and we can only do so with your help. So we want to hear from you directly. Who is this 'we' of which you speak??

    Police cars

I saw them all fly past Goose Green earlier, 2 vans and 4 cars, I did wonder - Sorry no help I know!
  7. I've just read this in this months 'Southwark Life.' "More than ?42,000 was awarded to the East Dulwich crime reduction fund, a joint initiative with the police's safer neighbourhoods team It has paid for a range of measures including alert boxes for businesses around Lordship Lane and personal alarms for local people. It is also funding hand held metal detectors to help the police combat the carrying of knives plus traffic calming measures and neighbourhood watch signs." Has anyone heard anything about this?
  8. For anyone who drives to DKH, it may be a good idea to avoid Bromar Road if you can, since Sunday at least half the cars that go up don't make it to the top!
  9. I live between ED and PR stations, so the ED line is deffo running, can't be sure about anything from on the Denmark Hill / PR line though - sorry!

  11. Yep, it'll be an indoor meat market, cosmetics superstore, or giant barbers / Western Union / internet caf?.
  12. I'm going to the O2 later this month and will be doing the ED - London Bridge followed by boat (James Bond style) option, It'll no doubt be freeeeezing but more memorable - I don't get out much!
  13. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7708430.stm My thoughts go to the little girls family at this terrible time.
  14. They will be taking boys from September '09, but the new school won't actually open until September 2010. The new intake will spend the first year at Langbourne Primary School up on the Kingswood Estate. They will only be taking in one year at a time, so the school won't reach its full capacity for 5 years. That said, they aren't guaranteeing (SP?) a Sep09 intake yet, but you can apply for a place.
  15. Aaah I wondered what had happened, saw the bus with the shattered window sitting on Pytchley Road. Don't know anymore - sorry.
  16. Ooh I saw a new one float past my house this morning, so much quieter than the older style!
  17. Best of luck to you!:))
  18. Many thanks Pierre.
  19. Does anyone know what happens to childrens clothes taken to the Mind charity shop? I have given loads over the years and have more to take down but just recently clocked that they don't actually sell childrens clothes. Anyone know what they do with them?
  20. Only posh Londoners say Sarf London, we all know it's Saaf London!
  21. I've always pronounced in On-Dyne?
  22. There was a lightening storm for about 2 hours last night, the only thunder was very distant rumbles that I could only hear as I was leaning out of my attic window watching it all. Was an amazing show, lots of forked ligtening too going from Crystal Palace over to Canary Wharf. There was no rain either so unless you were watcing the sky it may not have been obvious that it was a storm.
  23. Lovely man, cuts my husband and sons hair. Very friendly as is his wife. Never seen a blonde lady although he does have children so could be one I guess, I have to ask though, why the obsession?
  24. Southwark will collect up to 15 bulk items free, but you may have to wait up to a week.
  25. The way to spot the difference is if they have a registered charity number on them then they are legit, if they have a registered company number - chuck 'em! Back to the original question, maybe give the charity a call, they may ring your bell if you request them too or tell you the exact time they maybe collecting from your street?
