  1. I'd really like to vote for Andy Stranack - the Conservative candidate for Camberwell and Peckham. An interesting and genuinely concerned politician who not only believes in local and direct action but has been practising it for over ten years. However, the poll on the EDF makes it look more likely that a Lib Dem vote (for an apparent nonentity) would be a better bet to oust Harriet Harman - which seems to me to be a worthwhile outcome. What to do? What to do?

  3. isn't the existence of the Catholic Church a sin against common sense and Dawkin-ism?

At present No.2 exists in a form - but the "not to treat" can mean everything from not giving drugs to prolong life to actually withdrawing food & drink - condemning the patient to die of starvation / dehydration, not a good way to go.
  5. Have just called the Southwark hotline number mentioned by Nero - answered by a human being at 3.45 on a Sunday afternoon. Have been promised that the council team will come and clean up Marmora / Scutari and Therapia roads and put up more "bag it & bin it" signs.

  7. Walking today I noticed that both lodges in Dulwich Park are boarded up. I think this occurred some time ago. Does anyone know what the plans are? It would be a shame for them not to be lived in - either by park staff or possibly let on long leases to private tenants. I'm sure there would be many takers for a well maintained house inside the park.

    Record Posts

As Mrs Marmora Man I'm amazed at the number of responses generated within 14 hours to the "Courtesy /Politically Incorrect" post. Granted many of them are between 4 or 5 regular posters exchanging insults / comments / gossip but .... What is the record thread as measured by posts per day? Does the Administrator keep such statistics?

It's such a sophisticated area.
  10. We've used it for family get togethers and as a couple. Recommneded for good food, good value for money but it, might, lack a bit of romantic "oomph" essential for wedding anniversary dinner. Lighting is a bit bright - whereas I always look for subdued lighting and candles when dining romantically (husband looks better in dim lighting!!) - it's all a bit bright. Apart fcrom this tho' I'd recommend Si MAngia highly.

    Dog Crap

I've asked before at the Bishop whether they source from EDD and the answer is generally no, they make everything on their own premises.

  14. the White stuff at watergate bay is evenb better - you can see miles and miles of Atlantic ocean from the door. Makes buying surfer dude gear seem sensible.
  15. Was there today. No topless women nor a spliff in sight. Big crowds - there was some queuing at around midday. Cafe v. good, excellent carrot cake and portugese custard tarts. Huge variety of languages - most of which I failed to recognise, but they seemed to be mostly Eastern European. Water warm (for Britain).
  16. Where do people stand om "Gentlmen's RElish". Sold next to Marmite in Sainsbury's. Mr EDDW loves it.

We dont ask the people who live nearer > the coast to pay more for the Navy ergo.... The problem with the Lib Dem model is that deprived areas / regions generate low revenue as the majority of families tend to be low income. Thus they have less to invest in services that such areas need - good schooling, work generation schemes, strong social support services - which perpetuates the area as a low income / deprived area. It may be that "poll tax" models are like democracy - the worst form of govrernment except for all the rest.
  18. Went with family. Good fun - very Latino with no concession to any non Spanish speakers. Obviously set up for Latin American population of London. Music, food and drink all excellent. Sitting in the sun, listening to a Columbian band, first eating churros and chocolate and then drinking Mojitos made for a good afternnon. Overall a better festival feel than the Lambseth Couty Show yestyerday in Brockwell Park - tho' the better weather may have had an effect.

  20. The book is on sale for ?5.00 at the Lambeth County show in the Brockwell Lido user group tent. (and no I'm not a member or anything to do with Brockwell Lido - tho' son no. 1 is earning summer hols dosh as life guard there)

A better author of naval histories is P O'Brian. Excellent writing, historical accuracy and, as a bonus, an intriguing personal biography involving deceit, divorce and an imagined life.

Let's face it, he seems like a nice bloke > but he is a Tory - so that's where his interests > will lie. And Ken is Labour so is that where his interests lie? A Mayor for London should be above tribal politics. Boris is, I believe, much brighter that his image presents and, I hope, too bright to play the tribal card. Ken's successes with buses - don't make me laugh. I've cycled past 15 empty double deckers on Waterloo Bridge creating the ultimate traffic jam and waste of space. Efficient public transport is a public good - but empty buses are not. Oyster cards and later Tube trains are good. However, traffic speeds in London and traffic levels are back to where they were 3 years ago - so congestion charges = costs plus no change - so his road strategy sucks. If you want to hear some really creative swearing ask a taxi driver on his / her opinin on Ken Livingstone's road transport plans.
