    Barrymore

I think that was his genius - he could have the whole audience laughing without him ever taking the piss out of or belittling the contestants, yet they were always at the centre of the joke.

    Barrymore

I had been watching some old Strike It Lucky on Challenge and, after reading about it in the papers, I watched Jeremy Kyle interview Michael Barrymore on ITV catchup last night. While not very deep (it was Jeremy Kyle after all), Barrymore came over rather well consider how his crap things turned out (many of which was due to his own internal torments). I'd love to see him back on TV - he really had such an amazing way with people. He seems to have lost his career by a complete trial by media.
  3. This is not the wrong place, but you might get more interest in the lounge.
  4. M'kay....

Apparently it works by blocking their breathing holes, so you basically suffocate them to death, so the foie gras veggies might get on your case. ;) > Slugs and snails - sharp grit placed around the plants most likely to be attacked. But I'm afraid > I use slug pellets. Or use the more traditional method of 'chucking them two doors down the road'.
  6. Is that like a 'happy ending'?
  7. I use Roundup for a path weeder/clearer. Damn good stuff. Available at all garden centres. And Sainsburys too, I think.
  8. I have a friend that did his ACL skiing in Austria and went through the Austrian public system. In the UK, he'd have had the op fairly quickly, but would have waited up to six months for the necessary physio. In Austria, in hospital on Friday, Op on Monday (it would have been Saturday but there was an issue with his white blood cells), physio started on Thursday. The NHS is good but, as the Yanks say, it ain't all that.
  9. Two words: foie gras. Well, it's always worked in the past. If we can get something going dissing veggie cyclists I reckon that's a guaranteed 20 pages.

I vote they be turned off. Rather annoying, really.
  11. Or the British Heart Foundation will come and pick it up too.
  12. After the squeaky guy on QT tonight...

  14. There were thoughts of getting rid of the 'Drawing Room' section, so we could just rename it the 'Bedding Room'...
  15. Kind of hedging their bets with fuzzy language... Graham Beale, chief executive of Nationwide, said: "We could be seeing the early sign of a natural correction in the London housing market." He added that sales had begun to slacken in the capital, but did not predict a widespread slump. "We are going from frenetic at the start of the year to merely very, very busy."

Whatever you don't don't use any that the estate agent recommend. If you don't have a mortgage yet (which I imagine, as you've had the offer accepted, you do), then PM me and I can give you the name of a good broker.

    Oven Thermometers

  18. I'm looking for an oven/food thermometer and would like to know if there are any recommendations out there. I'd like - digital - alarm when the food gets to the right temp - food settings would be nice - oven temp as well food temp would be good as well - wireless would be a bit of a bonus, but I'm guessing out of my price range Having said all that, I'd like to spend less than ?50. Anyone got one?

I disagree. I think it is very good, especially for checking the photo matches the requirements, and any later rejection will cost you a lot of time.
  20. I got mine back in a week. I guess it's the luck of the draw.

  23. It's near Queens Road Peckham station, so not the most attractive of areas. But, still, 450k for a four bed house in 2013 was a bit of a bargain, even if one of the 'bedrooms' is no more than a box room. But 800k now is probably not going to happen. You can get nicer 4 beds in nicer parts of London for that sort of money.
  24. I think that's probably right. Even if Labour and the LibDems have enough MPs to create a majority coalition, I think it is entirely possible Labour will bring in Caroline Lucas to add a bit of lefty credibility. But, if it does happen, I think she'll resign in protest within the first year.
  25. Because Labour councils have always been the common sense alternative. Pfffft. Almost kept a straight face writing that one.
