    Euro 2012

Much as I hate to say nice things about the England football team, with that squad and with a manager so recently appointed, getting to the quarters was a pretty good result.

  5. First, find a bloody good defence lawyer. Then, cancel all engagements for the next few years. Third, take a class in creative writing. And lastly, put the glue down.

With any luck we'll see a GOP victory this year. Since it is 'statistically' I assume you can provide a link to said statistics?
  7. Welcome, masxamydus. Good start - you'll go far.
  8. True - Cameron shut up PDQ when similar allegations surfaced against Gary Barlow, noted Tory supporter.

  12. I was disappointed he didn't have the cojones to tell everyone to sod off, but instead tried to crawl back with his 'terrible error of judgement' tweets. The only thing he is guilty of is a bit of hypocrisy - but a lot less hypocrisy than Cameron, who's father built up a network of offshore investment funds to help build the family fortune. Or the rather sanctimonious Guardian (and no doubt other newspapers), who have used Jersey based off-shoring in the past as well. Anyway, if the government don't like it, fix the law. Or better, simplify the tax system.

    Bus strike

  15. Over in West London, the presence of a small number of Arab/Islamic schools has bought an amazing amount of Middle Eastern cash into the property market. Prices around the King Fayed Academy in Acton especially are just stupid.

But the ConDems aren't going to allow that though are they! I agree. The technology is now available and should be used for all voting - union and elections. And I don't think you can blame the coalition - Labour had the opportunity to being it in as well. And actually, I suspect the unions would like to keep the status quo, really - they are getting the voting results they want, and the less enthusiastic members might not be so keen on strike action.

    Bus strike

It's a > one off payment for the Olympics! I thought it was illegal to try to demand companies pay for strike action pay lost? Anyway, my last line should have read... Striking for an extra ongoing pay rise at least has a cost/benefit. But this strike (for a one off bonus) just seems like union muscle flexing, which probably explains the low turnout.
  20. That can't be right. Surely then it is a private insurance scheme and the government could not have any say on the matter. Something doesn't add up here.

    Bus strike

Huguenot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why, because the 20,000 London bus drivers out of 24,000 in total that will never see an Olympic > passenger deserve an extra 500 quid for all their hard work? Actually, given the amount of pre-games work done by London companies to mitigate games traffic issues, most bus drivers will probably see less passengers. Perhaps they should dock all drivers ?100 (since they'll have less of a workload) and redistribute the money to those on the busy side of town?

    Bus strike

So what will the strike cost an average bus driver in wages? A touch over ?100 by my estimate. Their ?500 is now worth less than ?400. If they get it. Another strike will chip even more off it. Striking for an extra ongoing pay rise has a cost/benefit. This just seems like union muscle flexing, which probably explains the low turnout.

If doctors are paying for the pensions themselves, how can the government cut it? Are you saying there is no taxpayer involvement here?
