Apart from the A-levels bit (as there is a pretty good argument that the education system has been skewed towards female strengths - admittedly away from male strengths), there's not a lot to argue there, Charlie. Oh and the brain activity one isn't surprising - it must take a lot of thinking to always get the last word in... B) Happily, none of it means that the ED Miss Lovely Girl competition can't go ahead. Any contestant unsure of the politics can enter in a flurry of post-feminist irony.

Ah yes, that would be the film where seriously assaulting her prospective boyfriend was considered a 'talent'. I'd prefer we left that bit out. Can't we stick with the Father Ted 'Lovely Girl' rounds? Walking, sandwich making and best laugh?

*Cough*, erm... perhaps some more investigation is needed, Charlie. Purely research, you understand. For the good of East Dulwich and all that...

And to balance the argument, I'm sure we could get to you a few copies of the Victoria's Secret catalogue, just to give you some ideas.

He might not be happy about that. What makes you think you'll be his type?

These days, they are all much of a muchness. There's bugger all money in hardware so everyone builds down to a price (except Apple and Vaio - they build up to a big price). Know what spec you want (recommend no less than 2GB mem, 160GB hard disk) and find what's out there. Keep an eye out on dabs.com. They've had some storming HP deals on there. Toshiba and HP are usually solid. Dell are cheap and cheerful, but tend to have the sort of customer service last seen at Ryanair. And I've got to ask... how did she manage to blow up her pc?

Southwark Parking Wardens - setting a poor example

You had to edit that 2 times, Sniffy?? Was it not wildly deranged enough or badly punctuated enough on the first two attempts? Not enough question marks or exclamation marks to get the point across? -
Parliamentary constituency - changes to boundary

How bad are Labour after 13 years of hacking away at our rights and freedoms? Bad enough to make this voter cast his first ever Tory vote come May this year. Cameron should go with the slogan "Conservatives - Really, Can We Be Any Worse Than This Lot?" (That's not counting my secondary vote for Boris at the last Mayor election. The decision between him and Ken took me quite a while. Not sure Boris counts as an actual Tory vote - it was more like a vote for the Buffoon Party. But I decided Ken had been in too long and had run out of ideas. Pity, I voted for him both the previous times.) The worrying things is that Brown will lose the election, get the heave-ho and in will slide Mad Hattie. That's Labour out for the next two elections. -
This is terrible. My thoughts go to the family. But, can I ask a question? Is it standard practice for the driver in these incidents to be arrested? Surely the police only need to confirm name and address until they can ascertain the details (which, given they are asking for witnesses suggests that the full story has yet to be established). I suspect the driver is going through a pretty rough time himself/herself. Playing a part in someone else's death, especially a child, must be awful, even if it was turns out to be an unavoidable accident. Adding the (possibly) needless trauma of being arrested only seems to be making a terrible time worse for no real reason. (Of course, since the police have been actively DNA farming for a while, it's not a great surprise.)

Warning: Unprovoked attack on Dog Kennel Hill (Sat 23rd)
Loz replied to chicknic's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
chicknic, It's also important in case someone else suffered a similar attack on the day. It wouldn't be too surprising if they had tried it on others. The more evidence the cops can piece together, the better. -

If I were you and I had a time machine, I'd take 10 mates and 11 cricket bats and head back to 3.30pm this afternoon... -
Blimey fractionator, I'm of similar blindness levels as you were (very slightly better) and I baulked at laser surgery as the consultant said I was a borderline case. They would have to zap a third of the thickness of my cornea, which is pretty much the max they will do. I decided to stick with the galsses & lenses. Incidentally, I am rubbish reading in dim light with my (short sighted) glasses/lenses, but excellent without them. No probs with taking off the glasses, but shifting one lens aside for a quick read is rather weird...

My libertarian streak says that people should be able to dress as they like. (So long as it is as *they* like, rather than their husband/family). My fairness side says that if you can't wear a motorbike helmet in a bank or wear a hoody in a shopping centre because it covers your face, then the burka should also be subject to a similar rule. Allegedly (as I know little of Islam) it is not a religious requirement. It a just a statement of faith, rather like a Christian wearing a cross (c.f. the recent issue with the lady working for BA). Fully willing to be corrected on that last point by anyone who knows.

Bob, First try rebooting the box. Turn it off AT THE WALL (not by the remote). Leave it for two minutes, turn it back on. It can take up to 5 mins to reboot, especially Sky+. If that doesn't work, it may be something has knocked your dish or the box is kaput. Either will be a call to Sky and ?65 for an engineer - unless you can blag a free one (if you've had it for a while and not called out sometimes they are nice. Threatening to cancel sometimes helps, too).

'Bout Now - you owe me a new monitor...! Mine's covered in coffee now. You really need to upload that to http://mydavidcameron.com/

A departures screen on the side of the bridge that could be seen from the bus stop would be very, very good!

I reckon it was someone slipped out of ED station with only a zone one travelcard. The British Transport Police aren't mucking around with just dogs any more.

Devil's advocate questions ('cause I can't make up my mind on this one, though I can't work out how you would police a ban anyway)) Should hoodies be banned in shopping centres? Should motorbike helmets be banned in banks? Heathrow T5 relies on face recognition for controlling international and domestic travellers. Should burkas be banned from T5?

Pretty poor effort if it was. Any little crim worth half his salt would be back up the ramp and either on the next train or over the fence. Not as if you can't see the rozzers waiting.

North Cross Road sub station - art installation
Loz replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm feeling vaguely artistic today. Well, more vague than artistic, but here's my go. -
But isn't that exactly the point, *Bob*? The odd anarchist aside, everyone thinks having police about is a jolly good thing. The whole country seems to pine for the good ol' days of Dixon of Dock Green, where the friendly neighbourhood bobby patrols the streets. I don't recall that the scripts involved George asking random people to turn out their pockets and delete all the pictures on their camera. Or getting his dog to stick his nose up somewhere unmentionable for that matter. I'd love to see policemen patrolling as a regular feature round here. But in this case, as you say, it's not, is it? What is this little exercise then? You'd better hope that dog doesn't sit next to you and bark...

'Walking past a handful of police' is a bit disingenuous. As Legal-Eagleish said, its the right to go about your daily business without undue interference from the state. Not to be searched without due suspicion. Section 44 (one of the stop and search powers) has already been ruled as an abuse of human rights. So yes, it is right, a liberty. It's not for nothing that fascist regimes stereotypes are usually portrayed by policemen using the words 'paperien bitte'? Throw in the ID Card, and that's exactly where we are heading. Some of us blindly.

It's been said before... and it's well worth repeating. They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
