I'm a committed Remainer but, Jesus wept, Eddie Izzard was absolutely awful on QT tonight. A horrible, shouty embarrassment.

Not that I think Sanders is doing the right thing (that should be obvious), but Clinton has not yet been democratically nominated. She does not have enough state pledged delegates (and never will) for a majority, and the superdelegates have yet to cast their vote. The superdelegate numbers that have been appearing in papers are based on various factors and are almost certainly reasonably accurate, but are not results from an actual poll. That happens at the Democratic convention, starting in late July. Which is why another six weeks of pseudo-battle would only just benefit Trump.

The presidential race is now between Clinton and Trump. Sanders not conceding only helps Trump. How is that the right thing to do as a Democrat? The problem is that Sanders has been a Democrat in name only - almost a flag of convenience. He's never really been part of the party, running under the banner only to get elected. It's not as if Sanders is going to be able to run in 2020 - he'll be 79 by then. He's staying in for his own benefit only as one last hurrah. Even though his lasting legacy to will be to have been the man who helped Trump become President. Another Ralph Nader. So, don't be too surprised if this 'man of principle' goes back on his word and tries to run as an independent or tries to be adopted by one of the minor parties.

What did Donald Trump get for his birthday? Bernie Sanders.

Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There are plenty of far left "leavers". They're just as bat shit crazy as the far right ones, but > for very different "reasons". I think the most interesting part of the whole referendum is that, even with the mixture of left/right on both sides, traditional traits are showing... that is, the right fib outrageously and the left call anyone that doesn't agree with them names.

It's either ultra > nationalism, or xenophobia, or breaking free from > . There's not much else. Only if you take the extremist view of subjects where there can be hugely differing degrees of disparity. I think a country should keep a semblance of its culture and should have some control over its borders. And 'breaking free of environmental regulations' isn't, as far as I've seen, ever been an issue. So, no, you are not stating facts. At all. I think you're looking at things in far too much a black-and-white view. There are many shades of grey to a lot of the issues. And, again, I say all that as a Remainer.

Don't worry - you aren't anywhere near the first person to have asked that question.

TheArtfulDogger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Therefore as mentioned bandishing a percentages for a larger body (the EU) compared with a smaller > body (the UK) isn't a valid statistic > > Nice try but no cigar Loz (not even an imported EU one ! ) For reasons explained, of course it is meaningful. In fact, hard numbers in this case are meaningless as it won't show effect. Think of it this way. Two people lose ?100,000 each in a failed business venture. One is an average person with a mortgage and a few quid in the bank, the other is Bill Gates. Does the hard monetary figure really explain the actual effect on each person, or would a percentage of their total worth be far more illuminating? It's the same here - the monetary figures you are quoting don't show the effect on each economy. Your figures are, essentially, meaningless. And that's a quality, British built meaningless!

Put it this way, if trade between the UK and the EU stopped tomorrow, which economy would be far, far more effected?

When I spent about a month in Vienna a couple of years ago, I had the obvious Ultravox song in my head for a couple of weeks. But, like you, not the whole song, just the baseline. Dum Dum. Da Da Dum Dum. Psssh. Dum Dum. Da Da Dum Dum. Psssh. Dum Dum. Da Da Dum Dum. Psssh.

I think you've grossly misunderstood who needs who more.

Insufficient visual harm - what do you think?

The problem is that this sort of thing sets precedents. If more people decide to put up advertising boards and charge rent for them, they will use this one and say that the council tacitly approved it via inaction. -

Will the council accept that excuse for parking? "You overstayed the limit" "Yeah, but I didn't cause much harm" "Oh, Okay then. I'll cancel the ticket.".
