Edgeware Road diversion ? congestion charge implications?
Sue replied to KidKruger's topic in The Lounge
My two cases were both on that route, when the same road was blocked off (the slip road that leads onto the ?A40? just after Paddington). Somewhere near Bishop's Bridge Road?? I got the fine via a letter, and challenged it, both times. In the first case, there was a diversion but the diversion signs weren't clear, plus I had no idea where to go (this was in the days before I had satnav on my phone). In trying to find another route, I strayed into the congestion zone. In the second case, there was a sign up saying the road was blocked, and in trying to find another route I noticed that in fact the road wasn't blocked at all, as there was traffic on it. So I doubled back, ignored the sign and just went up the road anyway, however again I had strayed into the congestion zone. If memory serves, somebody had just forgotten to take the sign down (DUH). Anyway, in both cases I got the fine removed. Now I have satnav, I don't go that way anymore :)) -

Oh no! We ran a benefit gig to raise money for that little community garden, back in the day. What a shame. I thought they had been promised that it would be kept.

Edgeware Road diversion ? congestion charge implications?

I have twice contested (and won) a fine (or whatever it is) for going into a congestion zone area because I had no choice due to a diversion. -

Anyone familiar with Dorset/ Chesil Beach area?

Last time I was in Weymouth, a few years back, the cliff had fallen and the path from the road to the beach had gone with it. It would be great if they've repaired it. I have fond memories of it from my childhood, and my mum was brought up very near there (according to her, she and her friends used to climb around the castle and walk along the top of it - health and safety, eh!) Lulworth Cove/Durdle Door is likely to be rammed, as it was one of the areas there were problems with shortly after the lockdown ended. Upwey Wishing Well (not in any way a naff one) has a fantastic garden and a nice little cafe with tea and cakes, but it may not be open under current circumstances (plus maybe your children are not interested in wishing wells and gardens!) Sorry, I guess none of that is terribly helpful. There used to be a great little museum in Portland, don't know whether it's still there, with fossilised trees etc, however - again - it may be closed at the moment due to its size (small). ETA: The Swannery at Abbotsbury is interesting, though I guess this year's cygnets will be grown, but again it may be closed. There is also an eighteenth century subtropical garden in Abbotsbury. Don't know whether they go from Portland, but fishing trips or other boat trips from Weymouth? Again, don't know if they'll be running though ..... -
Cockerel on East Dulwich Grove
Sue replied to sleeplessindulwich's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That's an excellent response, I think. I just wonder what will happen if the "potentially second" also turns out to be a cockerel - have they just ordered one neckbrace?! Awaiting developments with bated breath :)) But I realise it's far from funny for the OP and other neighbours! -
Thanks Jules-and-Boo

Thanks, yes they do, but looking at their cases it seems that my idea of level of inconvenience is not theirs!!! I will try the C.A.B., thanks. I wondered about speaking to my broker, who actually advised me to make the first complaint, however I'm not sure exactly what their connection is to the insurance company. I don't want to pay a solicitor because I think it might end up costing me most of the compensation! > > Are there solicitors specialising in this you > could call and get some advice? Or the Citizens > Advice Bureau? Oops sorry I seem to have jumbled up your post in my reply.

Thanks, that's useful!

Nobody? Any general advice if you don't want to put a figure on it? Having looked at some past cases on the FOS website, I can't say I'm hopeful of getting a reasonable amount of compensation 😢

Shops and restaurants that will not reopen after lockdown

Sorry to hear that Tart is going 😢 -
That's terrible. You say you have involved your local councillor and MP to get the actual issue resolved. Could you also involve them re this? It's disgraceful that the CEO (or someone in her office) is not responding to emails.

You could also complain via Helen Hayes?

Homebase used to cut wood, at least the one in Penge did. They kindly cut bits for my sister to make a ladder for her parrot 🐦🙂 (He ate most of the previous one, bit by bit 🤣)

Two hideous years on from the start of an insurance claim which is still ongoing, I have referred two complaints to the F.O.S. and they are being considered together as there is a lot of overlap. The claim is for subsidence in the bay at the front of my house. The amount of compensation in both cases I was offered by the insurance company (Zurich) was derisory, but the F.O.S. has so far said they think it is fair, even though it was apparently solely for specific delays and for lack of acknowledgment of emails. I summarised why I thought it wasn't, and now the F.O.S. have asked me "how much I think would be acceptable in the circumstances". There were avoidable errors, delays and lack of communication throughout, however the main issue is that building and redecoration work which I was initially told would take three days, then "six weeks of major disruption", ended up being five months of major disruption. This all stemmed from errors made in the initial survey, followed by other errors and what have been described to me by various contractors as poor decisions. During these five months, the main part of my house was unusable, and I had to either sit on a hard chair in my kitchen or go to bed. Neither room gets any sun in the afternoon. Most of the period was spring/summer, and I was nearly seventy. My back garden was also unusable and I couldn't even sit in it. There were a number of other related issues. I ended up with severe stress, plus debilitating physical illnesses which were apparently caused or worsened by the stress, one of which is ongoing and chronic. I took steps to deal with the stress as best I could. Clearly I am never going to get these five months of my life back, so it is rather hard to put a monetary figure on it. However I would like a fair amount of compensation taking into account the cumulative effect on my life. On the other hand I don't want them to think I am taking the p***. I've also had to spend weeks (literally weeks) putting together the two complaints and then the case for the F.O.S., because for various reasons the whole thing became extremely complicated. If you have any insurance experience or experience of the F.O.S., I'd be really grateful for advice on a ballpark figure I should be asking for, and also whether I should aim high on the basis that they will then negotiate down (I have no idea how these things work). A PM would be great if you'd rather not post on the thread. Thanks!
