At the time I moved to BT, they had some kind of cashback offer which meant it was actually cheaper than Plusnet over the period of the initial contract (I temporarily moved my mobile to BT for the same reason). After both the contracts expired, I moved my broadband back to Plusnet and my mobile back to iD. However I'd never use BT again regardless of cost, because their customer service was absolutely appalling. They were also incredibly rude when I left, once it became clear that I wasn't interested in any of their "offers" to induce me to stay. I may try their router again in light of what others have said above, however I'm not sure I've still got it :(

They just can't mix with people from another household, and would have to socially distance in any case. Not sure quite what you are getting at?

  8. So what happens if a household in tier two wants to visit a household in tier one? Is that allowed or not?
  9. Not long ago, the bin people sent round a flyer telling everyone how to dispose of old cooking oil. I never deep fry anything, so it wasn't of any interest to me, but I'm sure there is probably the same information on either the council or Veolia (spelling?)'s website.

  12. My surgery is using their waiting room, but the vast majority of consultations are by phone. But you can't give a flu jab by phone 🤣 There were three patients max in the waiting room during the time I was there, very widely distanced. And masked, obviously.
  13. Thanks for the private messages! I can't reply to any more till I've deleted some messages, which I will do shortly :(

Yes, so the charity shops which do take them get them PAT tested. I've always assumed they have a volunteer who does this for free, as it probably wouldn't be worth their while otherwise. I've also always assumed that the ones who don't take them don't have such a person. But of course I could be wrong on all counts 🤣
  15. Re bonaome's post above, I have Plusnet. I have also in the past used BT and didn't find any difference in the router performance, though I was expecting to. On the rare occasions I need to use broadband in a room where the signal is weak, I run a long phone extension cable to the room and just plug the router into an electric socket there. It's much cheaper than other methods, though obviously not ideal if you want something permanent. You just have to not trip over the cable 🤣

Oh that's odd. What was it? Could it have been a new person who didn't know they didn't take them?
  17. ctovey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ALD Life in Peckham takes electricals. They might > collect from you Ah thanks, I'll look into that. I'd rather it went to a charity. ETA Thanks so much, I just looked at their website and it does seem they collect. I have some other things to donate as well, some quite bulky, so that would be really helpful
  18. Thanks, I don't really want to go too far afield in the current circumstances. Maybe I'd be better just giving it away on here. That's how I got the newer version I have now 🙂

My shed roof is leaking, which is partly why I thought of replacing it with a green roof. It has that felting stuff on (not sure what it's called) but because I had plants and things in pots on it for a while, the roof has slightly collapsed and distorted a bit. I'm not sure whether I might need to replace or repair it before starting on the green roof. The roof just lifts off (it's a sort of lean to shed).

You could have tried to buy the bike (though not sure how safe that would be). Taken a lot of large threatening looking people with you when you went to collect it? I'm only half joking .....
  21. In the past I have left large pieces of cardboard next to my blue bin, and it has been taken by the bin men. I use cardboard on my allotment now (but I don't need any more, sorry!) ETA: There are often people on the forum looking for cardboard boxes, usually because they are moving house. So you could try advertising it free in the Wanted section?
  22. Admin, please move if this isn't in the right section. I have a record deck I'd like to take to a charity shop (the deck has connections to convert vinyl to MP3s or whatever via appropriate software). Does anybody know if either the hospice shop or the Mind shop takes electrical items? I know when I took an old vintage lamp to the hospice shop they wouldn't take it until I had removed all the wiring, however this deck is newer than the lamp was (though around ten years old I think).

Thanks so much! I've PMed you! At least I thought I had, but it isn't showing up in my 'sent" items. Can you let me know if you don't get the message?

KK I could have transplanted the moss growing on my car windows, but sadly my lovely mechanic removed it 🤣

Good luck Yes I was hoping to do something for pollinating insects, however it's down the side of the house and doesn't get much sun. I will Google! Was hoping someone on here might have done it and could advise!
