  1. Thank you from me too :)

It normally states on plastic whether or not it can be recycled, but if in doubt I just put it in the recycling bin anyway. I had a guided tour of the recycling centre, which was extremely interesting and I recommend it if you get the chance. Basically anything which isn't recyclable is removed and dealt with appropriately anyway during the processing at the centre. There are people employed specifically to do that.

The Sylvester Road office was no longer fit for purpose because it wasn't large enough, given the increase in mail order deliveries etc. However I believe options to extend it in some way weren't really investigated because Royal Mail just wanted to sell it off at a profit.

  6. I am still quite bemused as to why admin has taken to altering people's posts in this way.
  7. Southwark/Veolia quite often send out reminders as to what goes in what bin. I have the latest on my fridge. If people don't read them, that is hardly the council's fault. I don't find the recycling system confusing at all, though I'm not sure what I'm going to do with food waste when I run out of green bags. Use newspaper I guess. But I don't have much food waste for the brown bin because my veggie waste goes into a compost bin. ETA: Btw the compost which is sold at the recycling centre is extremely expensive. As even the people who work there admit. You can buy it far cheaper from a garden centre or somewhere like B and Q.

They have never previously needed it. Also, queues are bad enough at Lordship Lane at some times now, without adding additional pressure. Excellent post Penguin btw.

And I agree more people there would have made no difference. More people writing to Royal Mail might possibly have made a difference, though I doubt it. Since privatisation they seem to care more about their shareholders than their customers. What a surprise.

  11. That's made my day :) What a lovely thing to do.
  12. lilolil Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I won't be > drawn into any silliness on here. What is silly is to relate stories and then opt out of the resulting discussion when asked to back them up with evidence. In my opinion.

I think it is amazing that they have done such a thorough investigation and involved so many non police experts, and other organisations. If you don't like the outcome, that's another matter.
  14. Huge public vote? How many people voted?
  15. Vote with your feet, people! Change banks! It's easy!
  16. singalto Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It?s good to know that foxes have developed good > knife skills and kill each other as well. I, for > one, will continue to keep my cats in at night. It was stated clearly that foxes can in fact produce wounds which are as clean as, and appear to be the same as, those produced by a knife. And of course you would continue to keep cats in at night if you believe them to be at risk, regardless of what is the cause of these deaths!
  17. Excellent letter from Helen Hayes, though I felt she could have stressed that Peckham is a different postcode area and made more of the distances/times taken to get to the other office. Plus the particular difficulties for disabled people and people with young children. It won't be dealt with by the CEO anyway, who will just sign off a letter drafted by her minions. Anyway, fingers crossed it is effective. The whole situation is absurd.

See some of the posts above. ETA: And on other threads on the forum relating to this. "Ritualistically" is just a human interpretation of the way the body was left, isn't it? Unless you know a particular person did it and why they did it in that way, it's just an assumption.

  21. El Presidente Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Seems minor You think it's minor that somebody has to leave their baby unattended in a public place while they go and move somebody else's bins? Doesn't seem minor to me. It's stressful enough moving house without having an issue like this on top of it. Hope you sort it out soon, OP.

Pity the vet didn't do a proper job on the post mortems in the first place, eh. Might have avoided a lot of hysteria. I'm a bit surprised they got the same vet to look at them again, though - and surprise surprise he found puncture marks this time. How come he missed them on so many bodies before??? John of Chener Books always said he reckoned a lot of these supposedly-killed cats were initially the victims of road accidents.
  23. intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > RH I was thinking that it would just be a way of > excusing their lack of progress and interest . From the report linked to above, it seems that far from lacking in interest and not progressing the case, in fact the Met have done a very thorough review of the evidence, in conjunction with various other bodies. I don't really know why people are so keen for there to be a cat killer on the loose. I'd have thought they'd have been delighted that there wasn't. ETA: Sorry RH, hadn't read your post at the time I posted this - I think we are saying the same things!
