  1. There would be more police around, and more within easy distance of the crime, even if not on the same road. Also with more patrolling, the criminals could not be sure one would not suddenly appear. That's a deterrent in my book.
  2. Helen Hayes is a brilliant MP for Dulwich.
  3. It's easy enough to get to Tooting from here. Bus to either Oval or Elephant, then Northern Line.

  5. Same here. Thousand pound excess and no doubt a hike in future premiums. They've done all the investigating, and now a company called GeoBear is going to inject some stuff beneath the bay to stablise it, meanwhile I have massive cracks right through to my living room, through which the wind is blowing :( https://www.geobear.co.uk/ After that it has to be rebuilt, and after that redecorated inside and outside. I gather that the stabilising should be done quite quickly, however due to the very hot summer and the number of insurance claims, the rebuilding and redecorating may take longer. Depending on what has caused the cracks, dickens, I wouldn't have thought it was much use just doing repairs to the cracks without addressing the cause as well? Or have I misunderstood your post?

  7. I don't understand this. If the OP's car hadn't been off the road, would this man have been given a lift to Kings? And if so, what was the scam, exactly? Or was the man assuming that nobody would want to give somebody a lift at 6am?

  9. Assuming you live in East Dulwich and he was going to Kings, the taxi fare is six pounds ....

What do you mean? I would use it frequently and I know many others who would as well. I presently have to make a five minute detour to avoid having to try and cross the road there.
  11. Your heading is a bit confusing!
  12. Those posts were from 2013.

The OP said she knew the council would take it away if left outside, so presumably there was a reason why she couldn't leave it outside!

  15. I'm sorry to hear this, but we went in there for lunch shortly after it opened and came out (having eaten) still hungry. It seemed like a place for snacks rather than a meal? Not sure if that was the intention?

It would hardly have been difficult to post information leaflets through doors which they go to every day!

It definitely didn't smell like wood, and reminded me of coal fires from my fifties childhood (the days of London smogs). But I looked up and down the road and couldn't see any smoke from a chimney.

I have an open fire (not used at the moment obvs!), one of my neighbours has a woodburning stove I believe, and I don't know what the other one has. However one of the first things I did was to smell up the chimney, and the smoke was definitely not coming from there. Also the smell was much stronger outside than inside my house.

  21. Thanks annabel42, they did a load of tests involving my eyes but I don't know what they were ruling out! But the doctors did stress that vertigo is not the same as dizziness. I'm glad you were finally diagnosed.
  22. Thanks for this. Long overdue! ETA: Survey completed and fingers crossed!
  23. It smells like a fireplace burning coal :(
  24. Does anybody know what is causing the smell of smoke in the North Cross Road area? It is filling my living room and is most unpleasant. Has somebody got a bonfire?
