  1. If memory serves it did happen before privatisation. People have to have holidays and I'm pretty sure they didn't employ temps over the summer, just depended on overtime to cover annual leave. I may be wrong but I don't think so.

My favourite was Hope and Greenwood (RIP. It is now expletive deleted Maison Dog) 's salted caramel. But maybe that doesn't count as sadly it and they no longer exist. It was much yummier than Oddono's salted caramel ...... ETA: I agree Oddono's pistachio isn't bad. Their sorbets are quite nice too :)

Sorry. Having read that article (and thanks from me too, or I would have missed it) I must say I have to agree.

  9. There are some really rude people on this thread. I'm assuming El Presidente does not have small children. "Learn to park instead"? Charming.
  10. BTW I notice both another thread and this one (and possibly more) have had the original headings added to by admin. Is this a new forum policy?
  11. bkkmei thank you, I have just been looking at the year's membership to the Royal Palaces. I've always avoided the Tower of London with the grandkids because of the cost, but this looks like very good value if you go to more than two places, or the same one more than once!

Hey, thanks! That's really helpful! I didn't know they had a roof terrace though? Is that part of the accommodation above the pub? I'd have to persuade somebody to let me go up there, I don't think it's open to the public!
  13. You could cut off the good bits and freeze them for making cakes, pies etc later?

Thanks DuncanW, I have SkyMap on my phone. However I have recently discovered that my current mobile doesn't have a compass (magnetometer?) so I'm not sure whether SkyView will work. In fact, I've just looked it up and got a message "Your device isn't compatible with this version". GRRRRR. Thanks anyway. I'll try your suggestion re East Dulwich Road. On a clear night. It was really clear on Sunday night, I was amazed. I couldn't remember seeing so many stars/planets from London since I was a kid. Still couldn't see Mars though, from where I was looking :(
  15. Do you already have some suggested places?

I was saddened and perturbed by the number of people who just passed him by though. He could have been ill or hurt. His eyes were closed when I stopped. In fact I had to walk down to the next bus stop, because I couldn't bear to watch. There was no way that the passers by could have failed to notice him lying there.

Just because a situation is worse somewhere else does not mean that it is not bad here.
  18. Minitoots, have you seen this? The printed article was in the Observer on Sunday, but this is the online version: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/aug/05/daughter-eczema-dr-aron
  19. oliviaandmilo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Wildlife centre, Marsden Rd, would probably take > them ! I think it's highly unlikely that the Wildlife Centre would want houseplants, which are not normally native to this country. SamWolf, are you wanting advice on how to physically move these plants to your new home, or are you intending to leave them behind and want advice on what to do with them? If you want to take them with you, what country are you moving to? I believe some places don't allow the importation of plant material. If you want to leave them behind, houseplants are a massive trend at the moment, so depending on what they are, you could probably sell them on this forum for enormous amounts of money :))
  20. Thanks very much, that's very helpful!
  21. That's very useful, thank you. I do think it might be better to do it on the way back, then if there are any snags it wouldn't eat into the time at the Palace. Also if push came to shove we could do a river trip another day. How long do you reckon you need to allow at the Palace? The older granddaughter is very into the Tudors, but I think they would both also enjoy the Magic Garden, and obviously the Maze! ETA: Of course this is all a bit weather dependent ......
  22. Thanks I'll investigate!
