Noisy children playing outside at 6am!
Sue replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip

Yes, my partner and I were saying this recently. If children think it's OK to scream and shout outside on a regular basis (apart from in a park or playground) then they will grow up to be the kind of parents who let their own children do the same. -

It is all about consideration for others, isn't it? Although in my experience, children sleep through most external noise. -
Would whoever wrote the prescription know of one locally?

What exactly has Trump "achieved"?

Surely if it was a genuine work call, but the contact name doesn't come up or you don't recognise the number, you could just let them leave a message? And then you can call them back? If no message is left, google the number. Usually if it is a spam call the number will come up on one of the many sites which monitor spam calls, then you can just put it in your contacts as spam so you will know the next time? I rarely use my landline but I have it for broadband. I never answer it. It is on permanent voicemail, but I have the speaker on so if it is someone I know I can then just answer it. If it isn't, and it's spam, they usually hang up as soon as the recorded message starts. I am supposed to be registered on the TPS scheme for both the landline and mobile. I rarely get spam mobile calls any more, but I do still get a few on the landline.

What have other noise sources got to do with this issue? ETA: I'll give you a clue. Nothing. -

Your grandchildren may be awake at 6am but surely they don't have to play in the garden? That's just totally anti social. -
I've had a few of these. I just tell them to f**k off and then tag the number as spam.

We were at the march/rally yesterday. I have since seen this, which is one of the most bizarre things I have ever had the misfortune to watch. https://www.facebook.com/BBCPolitics/videos/2329172733766238/UzpfSTc4MjI4MjE3NToxMDE1Njc3MTIzMTEyMjE3Ng/

You just have to click on their name and look at their posts on the two forum games where they appear to spend most time to get a feel for what kind of person they are.

Be careful what you wish for! I had a tree replaced outside my house some years back, when the original one was vandalised, and I really had to push the council to replace it. Now it is so big it cuts out the sun to my living room :( -

Doubt it's been stolen. People round here seem to chop down trees willy nilly if they think they may be damaging their property. ETA: Or in some cases the council may remove them if in fact the trees are damaging somebody's property?? -

I wouldn't have thought, however, you needed the most expensive kind, and Macs and iPhones are top end aka luxury end, no?

From what I have read, their escape route was blocked and they didn't have much choice except to go further into the cave. However, I have also read that there was a notice at the entrance to the cave warning people not to enter it during the rainy season (which was about to start). I can't say whether any of that is true, but if the notice part is true, then it is quite worrying. However I'm not quite sure what purpose making somebody "face the music" would serve now. I'm sure the poor guy is well aware of what he could/should have done, but it's a bit late now. Further punishment would be a bit cruel, surely?

He grabs somebody and forcibly kisses them and you think that is "harmless"? What strong guidelines/boundaries do you expect somebody to give him who was just helping him to cross the road? What do you mean, he "doesn't mean to offend"? How else could you (or he) possibly describe his behaviour except as offensive?

Goose Green councillors - how can we help?

A public seating area? Will that be a permanent seating area? Where will it be situated?? -
I see contents insurance as a necessity, not a luxury, particularly in London or any big city, where there are likely to be more thieves than in the country. You can go online on a comparison site and put in your details and get quotes for insurance. I think? Normally you would also be covered for items stolen outside the home (eg on public transport) depending on exactly what's included in the policy. iPhones and iMacs, however - they are what I would class as luxuries, unless they've dropped in price considerably since the last time I looked :)) Also - how did they slip the latch? Does your door not have a mortice lock? My house insurer insists on that, and I would have thought your landlord's would. If it does, and he hasn't provided one, then surely he is the one to blame here? Though I wouldn't have thought his insurance would cover your personal possessions anyway, though I may be wrong.

I was at the bus stop outside the old police station/new school at the bottom of Whateley Road a few weeks back, and a blind man (with a white stick) staggered off a bus with another man, both shouting at each other and the blind man clutching a can. I think it was in the afternoon, certainly in the daytime. I thought they were having a row, but I think they were friends :)) They continued to reel about and shout at each other at the bus stop. The blind man (and possibly his friend, I can't remember) then got on another bus going in the same direction, so I'm not sure if they were chucked off the first bus :)) He got off that bus at the stop before the Horniman stop and headed off in the direction of the Horniman. I got off at the same stop and headed off in the other direction :) Does that sound like the same guy? I thought it was all a bit odd.

KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ?Loss of nest sites through renovations and loft > conversions is hastening their decline? > > How did swifts survive before houses and lofts > were invented ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_swift Swifts may nest in former woodpecker tree burrows found in ancient forests, such as some 600 reported nesting in the Białowieża Forest of North Eastern Poland, or the small colony found in a combination of woodpecker holes and tree nestboxes on the RSPB's reserve at the Caledonian Forest in Abernethy, Scotland. While tree holes and cliffs may have comprised their historic nesting resource, the almost complete removal of ancient forest from their nesting range has resulted in adaptation to man-made sites. Swifts build their nests of air-borne material caught in flight, bonded with their saliva, in suitable buildings hollows, such as under tiles, in gaps beneath window sills, and most typically under eaves and within gables.

theron Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Unfortunately no insurance (!!!) I don't mean to rub salt into the wound, and of course I'm sorry your things were stolen, but - I can't help wondering why you have no insurance for "treasured items" and why your hard drive is "irreplaceable"? Do you not back up your hard drive? I use Carbonite, which backs everything up automatically, but there are many other options, I'm sure. It's not just in case of theft, it also enables you to retrieve some or all of your stuff in case of computer meltdown or human error. It saved my bacon when I once accidentally permanently deleted some important files. Anyway, I hope you get your things back!
