Yes, unfortunately the (what seems to be) increasing trend round here to rip up grass and most of the plants and put down artificial grass, decking or paving and a few low maintenance plants in pots has removed food and habitats for birds and other living things, maybe including foxes? At least we still have woods and parks. And my partner saw a Gatekeeper butterfly up on Grove Allotments on Saturday, so some things are still hanging on in there :)

The old British Rail may have had its faults but nothing like what we've got now. The only hope is if Labour get in, but what a terrible mess they will have to sort out in renationalising the rail system.

Forgive me if this has already been covered or isn't relevant, as I haven't read the whole thread, but I got a survey form through my door today soliciting views on cancelling the Southern Railway franchise (I do realise the thread is on train cancellations and not the franchise!) Helen Hayes (MP) is apparently calling for Southern's franchise to be cancelled as a matter of urgency, and I guess the survey results would help bring this about. I'm not filling it in because I very rarely use trains these days and haven't experienced any problems, but if you do and you haven't received the survey form, you might want to contact them. It only gives an address, which is East Dulwich Labour Action Team, 264 Rosendale Road, London SE24 9DL, but it is easy to contact MPs online.

I think we would see some dead foxes about if that was the case? Like CivilServant, I have heard some fox activity at night lately.

Wasn't that place on the corner next to Surma, which used to be another Indian restaurant but which has had a new sign outside for ages (XOCO?) supposed to be a Mexican restaurant? There has been very little sign of any refurbishment activity inside. Anybody know what has happened/is going to happen, if anything? ETA: We used to have a Mexican restaurant on Lordship Lane - it just wasn't a very good one ..... on the stretch where GBK is.

I usually have a few around, but these are relatively huge numbers! They've been tapdancing in my guttering (which has no water in) and congregating in my bamboo :) One of them tapdancing had a bamboo leaf in its mouth. All very strange. And amongst them yesterday was what seemed to be a young goldfinch, so after years of doggedly putting out niger/nyger/nyjer seed for them, at last I have attracted - one :))

A whole flock (?) of sparrows has descended on my garden in the last couple of days. I'm not quite sure why!

Just leave it Fox. You are digging yourself in deeper.

I don't take kindly to being accused of lying, but hey ho, those who know me know I am a truthful person, so WTF.

Bit of a can of worms actually. Some people consider Nunhead as being actually Peckham. Some people don't :)

Tima Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Think the confectioner/bakery sign is on place > next to what was Pretty's, perhaps? Pretty's had greengrocer's plus restaurant next door. The sign was certainly on only one of them, but I wouldn't have thought either site was big enough for a French restaurant. I assumed they would be combined....

FFS. Clearly I am not getting an apology and now apparently both my partner and I are misremembering a conversation which we both remember. OK Fox you win. You are always right and everybody else is always wrong.

Sign on it today says it will be a confectioner and bakery??

OK Fox. My partner and I are both completely wrong about the quite long conversation we had with you about this, started by you (not "an off the cuff remark") and, as always, you are "right". I suppose it was stupid of me to expect an apology for being publicly accused of lying. Never mind. Let's "put this to rest", as you say, and pretend none of it ever happened.

I don't want to fall out with you, but you don't make it easy when you falsely accuse me on here of lying.

I have a recording app on my phone. If you have, it might be worth trying to see if it can get a reasonable recording of the noise? It may not be strong enough though.

Not connected to Le Chardon, hopefully?

I'm wondering whether the local community police may be able to advise on ways forward?

I am so sorry. Somebody not even next door to me kicks a ball against a fence or wall and it resounds right through my house. Once this was at one in the morning. It really gets to me, so what you have to put up with must be hell. Could you keep a diary of when this happens? Also could you record the noise so there is an objective record of it? And then take it up with the council again? Do these people own or rent their house? If rent, could you approach the landlord? My name here, I realise you are trying to help, but I don't see why the OP should accommodate such anti social neighbours. ETA: Also, have you asked other neighbours if they have similar problems with the noise? A combined approach might work? Another thought. There are local mediation people. I don't have the details to hand but if you google it they should come up. It's a free service but it does depend on both parties being willing to take part.

However I cannot get rid of essential things like stepladder, hoover, brooms, shopping trolley, toolboxes, ironing board (rarely used but still needed occasionally), laundry basket, bucket, bird food etc.. It's a small house and I have nowhere else to put them.

Big up to the Gardeners at Peckham Rye Park
Sue replied to PeckhamRose's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree, it's a very well cared for park and a pleasure to visit. -

There is a whole Christmas section at the end, with a discount if you order cards and stuff before the end of August :))
