Well, cleaning the U-bend worked for a day or so. Now the smell has come back. I'm resorting to the lethal expanding foam caustic soda stuff in the orange container. But not today ..... need to work up to it slowly ..... get the goggles and mask out .....

Does your insurance not stipulate that you have window locks? Normally you can have locks whereby you can leave the window partly open, but not wide enough that anybody could gain entry. -

I think the simple fountain sits well with its surroundings. Be thankful we don't have an absolute monstrosity like they've put into the (otherwise beautiful) walled garden in Brockwell Park ..... not a fountain, just an ugly lump completely spoiling what used to be my favourite spot to sit, by the little pond :( See the photo attached. Hideous. -

Peckham Rye Sexby Garden Fountain Green Water

There was a similar thread about this a year or so back. I think the water was coloured due to some cleaning chemical or similar put in the water (on purpose, to clean the mechanism or something). I THINK it won't stay that colour, but I may be completely wrong ...... ETA: And I haven't seen the water lately, so it could well be due to algae or similar. -

How about a three-per-person > limit? That wouldn't be enough for me or for anyone with a lot of rampant climbers being cut back, for example. I don't have space for a large brown bin so I rely on the paper sacks for garden waste.

Potentially dangerous cycling dog-walker.

Last year he came down Ulverscroft Road doing this, taking up the whole road with a dog on each side of his bike. I was driving towards him. I did shout at him :( If he is doing this on a regular basis I think it should be reported to the police/community police. Does anybody know who he is? Someone or a dog will get hurt eventually :( -
Thanks. The washing machine is not connected to the sink pipes anywhere. I do try to do a hot wash every so often but with gritted teeth at the cost :))

Thanks MarkT! I don't think, so, but I'll check.

I rarely go to the cinema unless there is something on which I really want to see. The last time I went to a movie was, in fact, at The Ivy House. But if memory serves, I didn't post saying that nobody in East Dulwich would use the picture house?! Please feel free to prove me wrong if I did ?! I'm unlikely to use a swimming pool either these days, outdoor OR indoor, but that doesn't mean I don't think an outdoor pool would be a great addition to the area and used by many other people :))

Penguin68 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- They give away the garden refuse > sacks from the van (when they have any) The garden refuse sacks are also available from Dulwich Library, except that they get a delivery once a week which "only lasts a few days" (why don't they ask for more, then!) and there is no phone number to ring to check if they actually have any before you make a trip up there. However the park office in Dulwich Park also usually has a load if the library has run out.

Well eventually I dismantled the u-bend thing and gave it a good wash. Fingers crossed. What I can't understand is, my old kitchen sink was well over twenty five years old and I never once had this problem. This sink is just over a year old :(

Thanks Gotta, that's useful.

ruffers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As I recall I see the message re optimising apps > when the phone has updated to a new version of > Android, just let it get on with it. No, on my phone when it updates it tells you what it is going to do and you have the option to update or not. There hasn't been an update recently, it's still on version 5.1

The Adobe isn't an app, or at least it is not showing up as one :( If it was, it would be easy to get rid of. And this is not about updating apps, but thanks.

alice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > this has worked for me. fill all sinks baths with > hot water then simultaneously pull all plugs. Thanks, but the drain isn't blocked, and the bath water goes to a different drain from the kitchen sink anyway.

Obviously I have not knowingly installed this, and the message I get is that the phone is optimising (sic) apps. I don't want to do a factory reset, it's a pain in the a**e. I will investigate further!!

:( Maybe that's a last resort then. I put washing powder (I did use bio) down the sink and the overflow (it's a butler type sink) last night and the smell does seem better this morning, but maybe the smell of the powder is just masking the other smell :(
