Curry Club - Thursday 7 March 2019 - venue TBC

Don't think we're going to make this one, sorry Radiant Bhuna :( -

ETA: Waverley Avenue in Nunhead has not just an annual street party but an annual coach outing, so a proper community, however as this is the East Dulwich Forum the residents may not see this thread.

It did go through a period of being a go-to place for well designed lights. Once. Its clothes have always been terrible (in my opinion). A sort of substandard (and even worse than) M&S.

A good idea, but I didn't have time to trawl round looking, and I suspect any boxes from a gift shop round here would have cost as much as the chocolate, if not more!!! I do miss Hope and Greenwood, they had a range of boxes in different sizes for their chocs, fairly basic but nice.

No buses (Forest Hill Road 21/04/16)

Well if the burst water main/repairs to it are on one side of the road, then there will only be half the road for traffic going two ways, therefore traffic lights will help prevent total chaos, no? -
It's not like that now. It's moved.

The use of fashion, whether clothes or interior design, is to try to get people to keep buying new things to keep the manufacturers and retailers and all the others in business. Isn't it? I had jeans with holes in the knees a year or so back. I was fond of them and didn't want to bin them. I used to wear coloured tights under them in the winter. I had to throw them out once the holes became on trend, in case somebody thought I was wearing them because they were in fashion :)) But then, I recall jeans frayed at the bottoms were fashionable in the ?seventies? and we used to spend ages making them frayed........ I don't see good clothes design as being about fashion, necessarily. Really good design is timeless. I still wear an Ossie Clark dress I've had for over forty years ..... I think good design is an art form, not a waste of the designers' time at all.

That sounds good! Though my grandchildren wouldn't like it. We once went to Paul's and they both rejected their hot chocolate on the grounds that it was "too chocolatey" :)) :)) :))

No I haven't got truffles. I only mentioned them because apparently that is what Melange do (except after Easter), that and chocolate bars. What I wanted was something in a nice box, not a cellophane bag. If the chocolate bars from Melange had been in a box, I would have bought them :)
-
I'm sure Melange are wonderful, but as I said, they had no truffles and only chocolate bars in cellophane bags, which unfortunately were not suitable for what I needed.

If they aren't responding to emails, why don't you phone them again and explain their system isnt working? Also, James Barber is good at sorting out this kind of thing.

Laptop squatters - the new Japanese knotweed?

I went to Melange this afternoon, only to find that sadly they had nothing in boxes, only chocolate bars in cellophane bags, which was not quite what I was after, nice though I'm sure they are. They said that they did not do truffles after Easter because nobody wanted them ?!?!?! but would be starting them again in a week or so (too late for me). Since time was getting short, I have ended up with two middle-of-the-road boxes from Sainsbury's, not what I was after at all, will have to wrap them prettily and hope the recipients don't notice they are Thorntons and Green & Black's :(

JohnL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Well its sort of voluntary on the trains - someone > with > a 'baby on board' badge always gets offered a seat > (as > long as people notice). My sister, who is whatever the modern equivalent of registered disabled is, has very poor health and also at the time had pneumonia and was quite weak, was asked to vacate her priority seat on a bus by somebody with a "baby on board" badge who was not obviously pregnant but was quite rude to her. A bit like somebody I knew who was perfectly able bodied but had somehow acquired a "disabled" notice for his car to enable him to park in designated spaces, I think it is easy for somebody to claim to be something they are not in order to get a seat. I'm not suggesting this person was not pregnant, but just because you are pregnant does not make you unable to stand, although it may do. Unless things have changed since I was pregnant in the dark ages :)) (Covers head to avoid flak). When taking a lift at a station to avoid having to walk up the stairs, my sister was also told by somebody with a buggy that she should not be in the lift because it was just for people with children and suitcases !!! I was tempted to suggest that she should get crutches or a walking stick.
