  2. Isn't this what The Matrix was about? I can't see it makes any difference. Dreams are real when you're having one.

  4. The sign itself doesn't bother me, but if it needs permission and doesn't have it then I think it should either get permission or be removed. It is setting a precedent otherwise and other businesses could fairly argue that they can do the same. There's no point in having rules if they aren't enforced. You can't make exceptions unless there's a very clear and compelling reason. In my opinion.
  5. I really like The Castle, it's got a great juke box and good Guinness (I think it's Guinness and not Murphys), but whenever we've been there on a Saturday night it hasn't exactly been heaving. Even with the incentive of a game of Play Your Cards Right :) It feels like something from another time. There have been occasions when I've been the only woman in the pub (apart from the bar staff). I don't know how they could do it, but I actually think they could build on that vibe somehow to attract more people, but the trouble is as soon as a different "type" of person starts going there then inevitably the whole atmosphere will change. If they do gentrify it, I just really hope it retains some of its present character. I agree The White Horse has managed to somehow have the best of both worlds, with a sensitive makeover. I wish Jenny all the best wherever she goes. And the rest of the staff - I can't believe they could just sack everybody like that, surely they must be breaking employment law?
  6. I think crafting is having a moment. Don't know about round here though. Isn't Stag and Bow (I think that's the name) in Forest Hill a craft shop which runs classes in sewing etc? That's been going a while now.
  7. That's a terrible way to treat someone. However in terms solely of the bar take, we looked at putting on gigs there a few years back, and were told there were enough customers on Friday nights and she didn't want any more!!! And at that time they were looking at having meals in the room upstairs, or so we were told.g

  17. My daughter and son-in-law have used Blurb several years running to make photo books of pix of my granddaughters, as Christmas presents for the rellies. The results were brilliant, and the books are great quality.

  19. I haven't been since they used to be at DHFC, when I went a few times, and were always really good. But I was listening, not playing :))

  25. The Celia Hammond Trust found the (East Dulwich) owner of a sick cat I took there because I thought it was a stray, and happily reunited them within a few days. You could try phoning them for advice first, which is what I did. http://www.celiahammond.org/lewisham/ Celia Hammond Animal Trust Lewisham Branch Veterinary and Neuter Clinic and Cat Rescue Centre 233-235 Lewisham Way, Lewisham, London SE4 1UY Email: [email protected] Tel Rescue Centre: 020 8694 6545 - N.B We are often out rescuing animals or carrying out home visits so if you reach the answermachine please leave a message or send us an email - Thank you! ETA: They took the cat into their care after I phoned them, so if you say you and your neighbour can't look after it, I'm sure they would help, and also try to find the owner. You could still put up posters locally as well, if you wanted to.
