  4. I'm not sure we have the full picture of what happened and what led up to this. I really can't believe there can have been no warning of any kind. If there wasn't, surely Jenny could take them to a tribunal? Though I suppose if they offered her an alternative job they had fulfilled their obligations:(

We really enjoyed the food, especially the pud we had (panna cotta with salted shortbread crumbled over it, and some sort of poached strawberries on the side). Thought it was very good value for money. I'm not keen on the decor either, and it was very gloomy upstairs during the day (though there's a brighter bit at the back which we didn't discover till too late). I also didn't realise they had Murphy's on draught until too late :( It was very very empty, though we were quite early so maybe most people have lunch later! There are great windows in the downstairs bar which open onto the street and which you can sit immediately in front of (grammar), but I'm not sure whether you can eat downstairs?
  6. I think it is a kind of euphorbia, but I don't know which one. A wild one I think. If it has thick white sap then it is (but take care because the sap causes nasty blisters if you get it on your skin and the sun shines on it). ETA: Here you go. Petty Spurge. Euphorbia Peplus. I think!! http://wildflowerfinder.org.uk/Flowers/S/Spurge(Petty)/Spurge(Petty).htm

  9. Stuart Road in Nunhead has a street party this Sunday, and The Ivy House will be taking part. Last year's was great!
  10. Unfortunately, I think the publicity about the original killings has probably led to copycat killings by people with warped minds in other areas. Unless there is evidence to suggest it is the same person, in which case it seems odd to me that he (I assume it is a he but of course it could be a woman) hasn't been caught yet.
  11. Did you ask him the reason for the difference in price, and if so did his answer make sense?

Yes it's gone, I think there were some damp problems or something and the wall had to be repaired, it was mentioned on here at the time. There's now another mural there, which sadly I find really boring compared to the bee. Don't remember the spider.

What is this electric swatter thing called? Sounds easier than trying to squish them on the ceiling with a broom handle :))

Hope I never run into you in The Castle. It's ability which is important, not age. Or do you think people wake up on their 65th (or 30th,40th or 50th) birthdays suddenly incapable of doing a particular job? FFS. Certainly some 65 year olds couldn't run a pub. Nor could some 40 year olds. I sincerely hope you've never been involved in recruiting people, if you ignore all their skills and successes and chuck their application in the bin on the basis of the year they were born. ETA: And as for boycotting the pub - yes, a quick way to make sure it closes down, isn't it? Cutting off your nose to spite your face springs to mind.
  19. MarianaTrench, I have a burning need to know whether your name comes from one of my favourite Octonaut episodes :))
  20. Yes I know, but thanks
  21. Thanks for the thanks. He was our very first headliner, back in 2008. He came back a few times after that, both solo and with Martin Carthy. The last time was last year. A sad loss, but at least his life was greatly lengthened by his double lung transplant.

The staff are, in my experience, very helpful but sometimes clearly struggling because of incompetent management who don't seem to be able to do the simplest things like putting sufficient staff on the tills at peak times.
