A beautiful mature Rowan tree (Mountain Ash) in Ulverscroft Road has had all its branches hacked off and just left on the pavement. It was the last tree in the road on the even-numbered side, at the Whateley Road end. When I saw it like this yesterday, I assumed that the council had done it for some reason. However I just passed it as a council team were collecting the branches, and apparently the council did not do it, and the enforcement team is "investigating". This was not just random vandalism by some drunken person pulling off a low lying branch. Somebody must have deliberately got a ladder and sawed every branch off. To whoever you are - shame on you. The tree cannot be saved. However the council will plant another tree, so if you didn't want a tree there - too bad.

I do that every year, never had squirrel probs! I don't use nuts though so maybe that's why!

Do you have permission to hold these events in the cemetery? I know Nunhead Cemetery has occasional open days, run by the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery. http://www.fonc.org.uk/2015-open-day.html Are you a similar group? Because as pointed out above, these are cemeteries, not woods - ie places where people are buried.

OMG that's awful. Absolutely incomprehensible how anybody could do that.

It does not track the item at each stage of its journey. It is not intended for valuables, but for when you need confirmation that a document, for example, has been received. Special Delivery items are tracked at every stage of their journey, and if one was to go missing it would be quite clear where that happened (and possibly who was handling it at the time, though a postal worker would have to be pretty stupid to take a tracked item). It's not an expensive service. But as I said above, it's somewhat pointless complaining on a forum about things going missing in the post unless you also report them to Royal Mail. ETA: And if something does go missing, you won't get compensation unless it was sent Special Delivery.

Surely the parcels could have gone missing at any point in their journey from their posting to their delivery? Royal Mail would look at the whole scenario and identify common factors in items reported missing.

You find dishonest people in all forms of employment, I guess, and Royal Mail is no exception. However in their case it is post which goes missing. That's why they have an investigation department .....

I also really appreciate the plants in the big planters at the top of Copleston Road.

There are some things they make which aren't on their website yet (I think) so it's worth asking about that. Oh, and although they say they don't, they will help with the design (you do the measuring though!), or at least did a year ago. And are remarkably tolerant with constant questions :) But I think as word has spread their lead time for delivery after ordering has got longer.

You can complain to Royal Mail here: https://royalmailemailform.datasquirt.co.uk/contactus.aspx They have their own investigation service, and employees who are thieving (I'm assuming you think that is what is happening?) are prosecuted. However clearly Royal Mail can't investigate if they aren't told about problems. If they don't receive formal complaints then they cannot identify any patterns relating to missing items.
