Souvlaki Street - North Cross Road Market

Different people, thankfully. ETA: If memory serves, that included some kind of reconstituted meat, YUK -

I cross here quite frequently as I have an allotment up there and I agree its really dangerous. It's made worse because so many cars go through on the red so there's no window of opportunity to cross. And if you are crossing from the Cox's Walk side to the Grove side, it's impossible to see what's coming down Lordship Lane intending to turn left along Dulwich Common. And some cars turn that corner very fast indeed. I just thank God I don't have a buggy or small children with me. Nightmare.

Street party on Crystal Palace Road - this Sunday 5 July!
Sue replied to civilservant's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
OK here's the running order for the music: 12pm DJ/Open Mic (see below) 1pm The Relatives (offshoot of the Dulwich Ukulele Club, R.I.P.) 2pm Ben Holland 3pm The Bara Bara Band 4pm John McClean and The Clan Each band's set will be 45 minutes. The open mic is first come first served and is open to anybody who would like to come and give us all a song or tune - anything you want (as long as it's suitable for a street party where there will be children and other sensitive souls :) ). There will be a whiteboard by the music gazebo, and singers will be in order of writing their names on the board. One song each to start with. The booked bands will start at 1pm so if you want to do an open mic spot please make sure you get there in time to put your name down early. The music gazebo will be in the section of Crystal Palace Road between The Actress and The Great Exhibition, and will be towards The Actress end this year. Please do come, all are welcome - and please bring food and drink to share! Fingers crossed for good weather!! -

We got chucked out of it once because it was reserved for the dog, and the dog wasn't even anywhere to be seen :)) Put our head round on Saturday to see what they'd done to the pub, not that impressed really but then we never went in there anyway in recent years, so shan't miss anything :))

Souvlaki Street - North Cross Road Market

The souvlaki I had from Souvlaki Street wasn't like souvlaki I have had in the past in Crete. Sadly not nearly as nice, but hey better than nothing I suppose. I'm back to the Vietnamese van next time I'm having a North Cross Road lunch. As I've never been to Vietnam, luckily I have nothing to compare their delicious food with :)) -
Roundabout Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is meeting its target ? the same as making a > profit? It depends what you mean, I guess. It has only been a community-owned pub a short time, and so far there has only been one shareholders' meeting. You can read all about it here: http://www.ivyhousenunhead.com/index.php I'm proud to be a shareholder. It's a great pub.

Roundabout Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is the Ivy House making a profit then? At the time of the last shareholders' meeting it was more than meeting its targets.

Fox. You were very wrong about The Ivy House, which you said would fail and which has gone from strength to strength. If The Cherry Tree has good food and a decent range of drinks then I think you will be wrong about that too. Just saying ....

El Presidente Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > this pub is in a terrible location and will always > fail Eh? Opposite the station, near Sainsbury's and the football ground, a minute away from Goose Green roundabout and the busy end of Lordship Lane? It was our favourite place for weekend lunches in the very brief period when it had a great chef, good managers and a well kept selection of ales.

Don't know if this has already been posted, but I was glad to find out yesterday that all the ED Iceland staff have been relocated and still have jobs. The person I spoke to was going to Norbury! When I said that was quite a way away, she seemed quite happy, said she was moving there. Don't know if the company is paying?

Joiners' Arms often has live music.
-
The Castle sometimes has good free live music, eg Steve Boltz Bolton. I used to see bands at the Plough sometimes, too.

I can't imagine he's suddenly going to treat his managers, chefs and other staff any differently from the horrendous way he's treated them in the past, whether the locals love him or not :( I hope to be proved wrong. Not that I intend ever going there.

stevie23b Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > hope its not another victoria the old wishing > well went from a not bad local with affordable > digs do we really need another clone Whatever you may think of the Victoria, The Wishing Well never had any ale on latterly - the original pub with no beer, in fact - and so far as I know it never rented out rooms, affordable or not? Despite the lack of ale I was quite fond of The Wishing Well, and maybe I have led a sheltered life, but it was the only place round here when I have been scared to come out of the loo because of what was going on outside it :( It did once have a good Kraftwerk Tribute Night though :))

I'm sure you'll manage, Jah Lush. I love this shop too and I must make the effort to get down there more often - sorry HPB :( ETA: Good review, and well deserved!
