  2. http://britishstandardcupboards.co.uk/ Oh, and they aren't supplied unpainted. They come undercoated in Gardenia eggshell. I think it's quite a nice colour so I haven't bothered giving them a topcoat :)

Cheap and a lot of it, but remind me of my school dinners in the early sixties, and believe me that is not a pleasant memory :( Friendly pub, but not somewhere I would willingly choose to go and eat.
  4. They may be suckers from a Rhus (Sumac) which suckers badly if the roots are damaged. But also, could be seedlings from a nearby tree. Yes, pictures of the leaves would help!
  5. I've got a lovely green Bodum kettle which I'm very fond of, which I've had for over five years now and it's still going strong. It's used many many times a day :)) I shall be sad when the time comes to replace it, because it took me absolutely ages to find a kettle which a) I could bear to live with and b) Was not too heavy
  6. I have British Standard cupboards. I love them. You can go and look at them at their showroom in Hoxton. The people there are very helpful. PM me if you want more info or would like to come and see mine. ETA: The quality is excellent in my opinion. Even better than they look on their website.
  7. I just had an email titled "Santa needs your help". I misread it as "Satan needs your help". I was debating whether or not to open it when I realised my error :))
  8. James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So if we think this stuff isn't ideal - what is > the alternative that we're proposing? I think probably the alternatives would be too labour intensive and expensive, BUT what I was asking above was that a sign be put up in streets/places which are to be sprayed, maybe a week beforehand, warning residents that this will be happening and when. Also, I know in Islington (where there was council encouragement to residents to plant up tree pits as part of Islington in Bloom) the people doing the spraying had a list of places including tree pits which they were asked not to spray. This did depend on good communication between various council departments, not always a council strong point, but eventually this seemed to work quite well (after one or two very disgruntled residents got their carefully planted and tended tree pits trashed with weedkiller ..... )

  10. I love The House Of Dreams. It is open a few times a year. I don't suppose you were the only one there. Did you not see anybody else? If not, then yes I guess you were ....

  14. Thanks for this, EPB. It has always amazed me how (many) councils just bin/compost their bedding plants at the end of each season. Some councils do now give them to community gardens in their area. Why hasn't Southwark thought of this???

I really like Merrifield's, and I'm sorry to hear that he's losing trade to Timpsons :(

  18. Thanks red devil, I think I'll just leave it to people to scroll back up the page if they want to see the original pic of the mug. If Amazon sell it, I will have a look though :))

I guess it was Italian. We used to get one after going swimming in the lido. Absolutely delicious - real vanilla, and sort of grainy. Never found anything like it since. My mouth is watering just thinking about it :) Though my own home made ice cream is pretty good, though I say it myself :))

Far from it. > > Just to be clear. Are we talking about this guy? > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prem_Rawat > > You're right, all sounds perfectly reasonable to > me. I've got absolutely no idea who the guy in question was. Never heard of this Peace Palace in East Dulwich before. I was talking in general terms, hence my use of the expression "things like that". Maharishi, for example, and Transcendental Meditation, which a lot of people were into at that time, including The Beatles. I'm not quite clear why being attracted to inner peace should be damned as being "everything that's wrong with the world". I'm sure some of these so-called gurus were charlatans and yes I expect some of the people who followed them were gullible. It doesn't make all of them charlatans, and it doesn't make all their followers gullible. No more than Christians, for example.
  22. Excellent news, must be such a relief to everybody, adding my wishes for a full recovery.
  23. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Palace of Peace... gullible fools blindly > following a religious cult... it sounds like > everything that is wrong with the world. I know/knew quite a few people who were into things like that in the seventies/eighties, and none of them were gullible, or fools. I don't think whatever is "wrong with the world" has anything to do with those people who are seeking peace. Far from it. Only just seen this thread, BTW, and what a load of boring bollocks. Things change. Get used to it. If you can't get used to it and you don't like it, move somewhere else, don't waste your life criticising the people who do like living here :)
  24. Shared and asked Facebook friends to share it too.
  25. What a happy ending! :)
