    Cherry Tree

Their range of ales is excellent (Wetherspoons not Cherry Tree) and they are generally well kept. They are certainly very good value. I think the atmosphere varies from pub to pub. The food isn't great, but it isn't totally vile either. I've had much worse in places locally. I'm sorry they're not coming to ED, but glad the Cherry Tree will finally have new owners.

Unless I've misunderstood the lights you mean, aren't the set after the station lights as you go up DKH the ones where traffic and pedestrians go in and out of the road leading up to Sainsbury's? I can't see how you could remove those without causing huge problems?

Those who got there later were having trouble finding a place to pitch at all, which was why there were food stalls right up to both sides of the stage :( It's very difficult isn't it, because as pointed out above, if things are too much spaced out it detracts from the atmosphere. Undoubtedly one reason for the crowds this year was the great weather. If the weather is poor next year, and fewer people come, then there wouldn't be the issues. Having said that, I sat down to watch the music at several points during the afternoon and didn't experience any problems finding a space (admittedly there was just one of me), plus there always seemed to be space at the front.

Yes I agree. And we like having the stage where it is. Having it up the other end would not feel the same at all :) Glad people liked the music, we had a remarkably stress-free day this year xx

  7. I've had similar problems in the past, editing and editing, trying to find the word-or-part-of-a-word which is not allowed, and still unable to post. I feel your pain :))
  8. HappyFamily Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- For example the queues > for food were snaking into those sitting on park > listening to the band. I'm half of The Goose Is Out! who ran the music stage. We became aware of the issue with one of the food queues very early on, during the first band's set, and did get the queue to move so that it wasn't blocking people's view who were sitting down. Was this happening in more than one place, because we weren't aware of any other similar problems or we would have taken steps to try and sort them? I think there were more food stalls this year, and they seemed to be located much closer to the stage than in previous years, plus there seemed to be more opposite the stage as well, which left less space for people to sit. Also the good weather had brought out the crowds I think. I don't think this fair has outgrown Goose Green, but maybe more of it could be moved to the end of the Green away from the roundabout and the music stage. But I have no idea what the constraints are. Angela Burgess does an absolutely fab job every year of organising and running the fair, and personally I'd be sorry if it moved elsewhere as I think Goose Green is a great site for it. ETA: When there are events on Peckham Rye, the turnout has never seemed that great, and I wonder how many people who live in East Dulwich could be bothered to walk to the Rye and back? Goose Green is very central. Plus it's in Dulwich, and it's the Dulwich Festival Fair!! There were events on in Dulwich Park at the same time.

I couldn't find the answer online. The customer service was so appalling I have decided not to buy any Samsung product ever ..... If it's as bad as that before you have even bought something, what must it be like if something goes wrong once they've got your money?!

  14. Saw two swifts (we think) this evening over Ulverscroft Road, hooray!
  15. Where will the fernery be? I like ferns :)
  16. Admittedly haven't been there for a while, but they seem to have a flash new menu and their food prices seem to have gone up :( So maybe they put the Cobra price up with them ..... Service sadly seemed to have deteriorated as well, or maybe they were just tired after the weekend :
  17. Last Sunday night we were charged ?4.95 each for two large bottles of Cobra at the Dulwich Tandoori. Is that correct? It seems vastly expensive, but we ordered them without looking at the drinks menu. When I asked for an itemised receipt, it came back without the drinks on ..... they did redo it so we were deffo charged ?9.90 for the two. Posting here as you're the most likely group of people to know :) ETA: I did query it, as in "Is that right? A fiver for a bottle of Cobra?" The answer: "It's not a fiver" - well, no, it's five pence short of it :))
  18. I like The Eagles! Well, I like Desperado :)
  19. There is also the Dulwich Folk Choir which over the last couple of years has also been involved in a number of community events, for example singing songs connected with knitting and weaving in Dulwich Park. It meets (during term time) on Tuesday nights, upstairs in the EDT (the pub on Goose Green roundabout) from 7 - 9pm. It is led by the lovely Aimee Leonard, originally from Orkney. Please PM me if you'd like her contact details, but you can just turn up. It's a very friendly choir - but as its name suggests, it mainly sings folk songs, not pop songs! You don't have to read music, everything is taught by ear, and you can do whatever part you want for each song. No auditions, anybody is welcome.

S/he was asking whether there had been a change in flight paths. And in any case, whilst nothing can be done about the sea being wet, there are various ways in which aircraft noise in London could potentially be reduced. I can't undertand why some people on here get so upset when the subject of aircraft noise is raised. If you don't want to discuss it, or think other people shouldn't be discussing it, why do you bother clicking on the thread in the first place?
