  1. Do you have permission to hold these events in the cemetery? I know Nunhead Cemetery has occasional open days, run by the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery. http://www.fonc.org.uk/2015-open-day.html Are you a similar group? Because as pointed out above, these are cemeteries, not woods - ie places where people are buried.

Sadly, grass grows :) Very quickly at this time of year :( I guess that's why people have paving, decking and bloody astroturf. Personally I'd rather hear a strimmer outside than loud music, people in the same garden having a conversation by apparently shouting to each other or, as recently, piercing recorder "playing" from someone who couldn't play it. Yeh I know, grumpy old woman.

  6. OMG that's awful. Absolutely incomprehensible how anybody could do that.
  7. It's also very concerning that he is behaving like this when he is with a young child.
  8. Excellent! At least that one is preserved for posterity!

No, I tried to find the most notorious thread to put a link up here (I think that was the one where the poor manager who came in after that badly treated couple was talking to himself at one point, in two different forum guises, not to mention the Cherry Tree's various socks all posting) but it's apparently been zapped - so I guess the Crushed and Devalued one has as well :( ETA: It's probably in a forum archive somewhere though :))

Glad everyone is safe, but it's a bit worrying that a place presumably constantly dealing with hot fat didn't apparently have a suitable fire blanket or extinguisher to deal with a fat fire. Maybe someone panicked and used the wrong extinguisher?

The derision and mocking was because it became clear that the post had been written by somebody closely associated with The Cherry Tree. Not the last time that happened, either.

How can you be sure that the items went missing from the post offices where they were posted? Posting at a particular post office does not guarantee they will not go missing at some future point in their journey! If you are sending anything valuable, you should use Royal Mail's Special Delivery service. That's what it's there for. http://www.postoffice.co.uk/mail/valuables-jewellery All Recorded Delivery does is record whether or not an item has been delivered. It does not track the item at each stage of its journey. It is not intended for valuables, but for when you need confirmation that a document, for example, has been received. Special Delivery items are tracked at every stage of their journey, and if one was to go missing it would be quite clear where that happened (and possibly who was handling it at the time, though a postal worker would have to be pretty stupid to take a tracked item). It's not an expensive service. But as I said above, it's somewhat pointless complaining on a forum about things going missing in the post unless you also report them to Royal Mail. ETA: And if something does go missing, you won't get compensation unless it was sent Special Delivery.
  13. Surely the parcels could have gone missing at any point in their journey from their posting to their delivery? Royal Mail would look at the whole scenario and identify common factors in items reported missing.
  14. You find dishonest people in all forms of employment, I guess, and Royal Mail is no exception. However in their case it is post which goes missing. That's why they have an investigation department .....
  15. I also really appreciate the plants in the big planters at the top of Copleston Road.

  17. There are some things they make which aren't on their website yet (I think) so it's worth asking about that. Oh, and although they say they don't, they will help with the design (you do the measuring though!), or at least did a year ago. And are remarkably tolerant with constant questions :) But I think as word has spread their lead time for delivery after ordering has got longer.
  18. Thanks stingray!
  19. You can complain to Royal Mail here: https://royalmailemailform.datasquirt.co.uk/contactus.aspx They have their own investigation service, and employees who are thieving (I'm assuming you think that is what is happening?) are prosecuted. However clearly Royal Mail can't investigate if they aren't told about problems. If they don't receive formal complaints then they cannot identify any patterns relating to missing items.
  20. Was googling to try to find any info - didn't find what I was looking for, but did find this :)) Don't know if somebody put up the whole page, or if somebody hacked a page put up by the Cherry Tree, either way it made me laugh out loud .... http://in-greatbritain.net/411992675526845/ ETA: If you can't be bothered to click on the link, part of it says: "We hate all our customers and everyone who lives in East Dullwich. We know nothing about running bars, or about customer service"
  21. Hardly worth going through the small claims court for a kettle :)
  22. Hoping for a Wetherspoons, but I thought the previous thread on the subject said that the Cherry Tree owners had turned down an offer from Wetherspoons? ETA: Thank goodness it's finally changing hands, though.

  24. http://britishstandardcupboards.co.uk/ Oh, and they aren't supplied unpainted. They come undercoated in Gardenia eggshell. I think it's quite a nice colour so I haven't bothered giving them a topcoat :)

Cheap and a lot of it, but remind me of my school dinners in the early sixties, and believe me that is not a pleasant memory :( Friendly pub, but not somewhere I would willingly choose to go and eat.
