  2. Peckhampoet Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Two brands that have really lost their way in > recent times. No longer a pleasure to shop in > either with their tired interiors and lacklustre > offering. xxxxxxx Totally agree. I have been expecting both of them to go under for years, can't understand how they've kept going .....
  3. Sorry to hear that KK. Er, what's the incubation period?? Yours started on Tuesday, yes?
  4. Only me! Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The circumstantial evidence is growing ......... xxxxxx Bloody hell! Is that photoshopped? If not, glad it wasn't my car underneath!

  6. edhistory Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The manifesto is the funniest thing I've read > today. > > Thank you. > > John K xxxxx Don't know how you managed to get through it all, I'm losing the will to live :))
  7. tomo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Hopefully the owner will have moved > it by tomorrow. xxxxxx You could leave a (polite or rude, depending on your mood) note on the windscreen asking the driver not to block you in again? Polite may have a better chance of success though, I guess :)
  8. Very sorry Gerry. At least if it was a heart attack hopefully it was a quick death, though I realise that's little comfort when you've lost a loved animal.
  9. Nicholas Spears Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Or do they still use the 'one in 20 is burgled > every day' figure? Do tell. xxxxxx Life's too short to spend part of it winding up ADT reps by pretending I'm interested in seeing their brochure, so I've no idea :))
  10. They're now in Ulverscroft Road (again). Gleaming smiles like mormons. Beware! :)) I told them I didn't want to talk to them, and they just laughed .....
  11. intexasatthe moment Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Route is a doddle but congestion can be bad . xxxxx Often a nightmare through Wandsworth. Depends on the time of day. But once you've got through that part it isn't usually too bad (apart from the aforementioned Stonehenge stretch ....) Don't be tempted to do a detour at that point, I tried that once and reckoned it all probably took much longer than just sitting out the Stonehenge jam ....) ETA: Though maybe easier in these days of SatNavs :) ETA: There used to be quite a nice pub in Bruton for a stop-off, which did decent pub food, don't know if it's still there or still nice :) ETA: Don't think it's there any more, I did a google and all I can find is what I think is a different pub three miles outside Bruton, sorry .... or maybe my memory of what it looked like is completely wrong .... http://www.theoldredlion.org.uk/The%20Old%20Red%20Lion%20Brochure%201.pdf

  13. Glad you liked the Goose stage, Uncle Ben :) We are very very grateful to all the excellent local singers and musicians who every year give up their time for free for community events like this. And also grateful to Angela for again organising the whole Fair and co-ordinating everything so brilliantly. Though "Best this year"? To the best of my knowledge this has been the first community event stage the Goose has run this year, unless my brain is even more addled than I thought it was, which I admit may be likely ..... Re your other point, are you seriously suggesting that in a community where there are many families with children that a community festival/fair should take place on Goose Green which excludes them??!!??!! If you want something different, as I see it you have two options: 1. Put on a festival yourself in ED for adults only (be prepared for A LOT of unpaid work!!) 2. Go to a festival elsewhere which excludes children. :)
  14. A303 route is prettier, and much easier since they added more dual carriageway, but depending on the time of day there can be horrendous jams around Stonehenge. ETA: But if I just wanted to get there quickly I'd do the M4/M5 route. Bit boring though.
  15. The headliners were a blues band .... ETA: We try to put on music which will appeal to as many people as possible. Clearly we can't please everybody, but we bear in mind that this is a family/community fair, and it was great to see the children dancing in front of the stage :) To see more local talent, come along to the Crystal Palace Road Street Party on Sunday 2 June, which is part of the Big Lunch. Live music outside The Great Exhibition starts at midday and will be continuing into the evening, moving inside the pub at some point. :)

  17. Just looked at El Pibe's link, and the RHS page says that professional contractors will have access to more powerful weedkillers than glyphosate, so probably best to grit your teeth and pay a professional to do it ....
  18. Do you know how often they've done this since 1937? I had an email about it today. Sadly it's set to be one of the busiest days of my year, but I may still send in a diary .....
  19. Good luck to The Herne, all sounds promising!

    The news

Somebody once started a "good news" newspaper, containing only good news. Hardly anybody bought it. This is absolutely true. Many people appear to thrive on bad news. Maybe it makes them feel lucky. Presumably this is why AOL (where I still have a little-used email address) fills their news page with stories of dead children. I have complained to them about this every time they ask for feedback, but nothing changes. I don't click on the stories, but you still get the bloody headlines shoved in your face when you check your email. Have gradually reduced my news consumption to the Saturday Grauniad and an occasional look at the Grauniad on my phone, unless there's a major incident like the helicopter crash at Vauxhall. Have not noticed any great loss from not knowing about what's going on :)
  21. El Pibe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > glyphosate > Scotts Roundup Tree Stump & Rootkiller, Scotts > Roundup Ultra 3000, Scotts Tumbleweed, Bayer Tough > Rootkill, Bayer Super Strength Glyphosate or Doff > Knockdown Maxi Strength Weedkiller xxxxxx Really? Glyphosate has been around for years. Good as it's non-residual, but I had no idea it was effective for Japanese Knotweed.
  22. Is this like Stumble Upon, or completely different? Sorry to be dim. I quite liked Stumble Upon when I was ill, otherwise it's a timewaster :))
  23. Will check it out, but may wait till after the summer holidays and new school year.
  24. The "less than 30 minutes" - is that walking or driving or public transport??? I'd be interested in this.
  25. WTF????? a) This was nearly a month ago, why the late post? b) Who is "Bobby's food" and why are they being apparently blamed for "ripping the side of the car open"? ?????????
