Somebody was trying to help out their neighbour by finding somebody to board up their window for them, and you told them to do it themselves and it wasn't rocket science. Personally, I'd say that was "snotty and rude". And English is my first language (and I'd say "if English isn't their first language, I can recommend a course" was a pretty snotty and rude comment, as well. By all means post on here as rudely as you like - but don't then accuse other people of rudeness!

  3. Ann Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Would definitely register as door to door free if possible. xxxxxx So would I. Had the RSPCA knocking yesterday, during the day however. I give money to charity, but I want to choose what cause I give to and when, not be approached in the street and in my own home in a way which feels quite intrusive. I used to be as polite as possible, but am increasingly going into Grumpy Old Woman mode. Poor people who are doing the knocking, however. I hope they are getting a decent wage. Paid for by the donations to the charity, I suppose, unless they are volunteers.

  6. I'm bemused. If this thread is likely to get the forum sued, why hasn't it been removed, or reported so that it can be removed if mods haven't seen it? Apologies if somebody discussing the threat to sue has already reported it.

Maybe I could fashion some tiny concertinas out of matchsticks :)

Who are these people?

ETA: And yes, face to face is real, so it's a bit hard to understand why you chose to call a pub owner a "knob" on a public forum, with no immediate explanation, and no apparent provocation save the mention of his pub on a thread. ETA: And subsequently called him even worse, which I'm not going to repeat here.

Peckhamgatecrasher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Dazzer's spelling is strangely reminiscent of Da > Manager's. xxxxxxx Registered 2008 though, Da Manager 2013. Oh sad, sad person that I am :) ETA: And generally, the lower case "i"s are a CT giveaway, which don't appear in Dazzer's - er - case. ETA: Though the use of "slating" is interesting, I give you ....
  13. EPB Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > 32 North Cross Road has just sold at auction for > ?630,000. xxxxxx Do you know why it was auctioned? I assumed there must be something quite major wrong with it?

I had to go there a year or so back because my sister wanted something from Lakeland as a birthday present. I could feel the life slowly ebbing from me ....... But each to their own, eh! I pretty much hate shopping centres anyway. ETA: I think there is still a small branch of Boots in Forest Hill. If you order something from Boots on-line, you can collect it there, which is quite useful.
  15. Mine would be no food, just Stella. Like it or lump it. Perhaps you're right Annette Curtain, I should apply :)) (I'd burn in hell first ...... )
  16. Brilliant! :)) :)) :))
  17. Bromley is pretty dismal. Are you specifically wanting to avoid Oxford Street, as otherwise I'd have thought that was your best bet - not hard to get to from ED.

Wild guess, I know. ETA: Would you like to share with us your definition of "the Victor Meldrew type"?

  21. Oh duh :)) ETA: Sorry, that was in response to Jeremy and the comment about the trio

  23. Annette Curtain Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Aside of that, is The Goose your sole business or > is it a paying hobby ? xxxxxxx I'm retired and FJD is looking for work. So depends how you define a sole business - or a hobby :) It's hardly "paying" - it's a financial cliffhanger at every gig, apart from the ones we know will sell out! ETA: Oh, and before anybody asks - yes it's all declared for tax :)
  24. As I previously suggested, let's discuss it over a pint or two some time. Years of experience does not necessarily make you right. We had many gigs at Hoopers Bar. Jamie Hooper always paid us exactly what was agreed, whether it was heaving or quiet, and we would never have dreamed of passing a hat round as well. Are you saying that you've run open mic gigs with maybe a dozen or more sets of artists turning up and have paid them all to play even if there was hardly anybody in the audience who wasn't actually playing? You must be bankrupt :)) :)) :))
  25. Kingy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Er, Sue...er I did not introduce the subject of > Hooper's to that thread - I commented on it after > somebody else had introduced it and I believe I > also said this was not the place to discuss it > after you had asked for an explanation, quote - 'I > agree that this is no place for it but you asked > for it' unquote - but of course you will be right > and I will be wrong, because you are always right, > even though the logic you have about charging > musicians to play is not actually charging them to > play stumps me, you are probably right about that > as well > > Jamie Hooper knocked me, he welshed on a deal and > lied about it - and he did it in a slippery and > underhand way. Various people also pointed out to you that it is not the done thing to pass the hat round at a gig where you are already being paid. Your dispute with Jamie about what he was paying you was after you had passed the hat round, not before. I really can't be arsed to explain things to you about Hankdog's open mic, maybe go to a few ticketed open mic nights and see what other people who run them do, and maybe use your undoubted "intelligence" to consider why they do it. An ex of mine used to frequently sing at open mics in North London, and had no problem in paying an entrance fee (albeit a discounted one because he was performing) because he knew only too well the amount of work that went into running it. And if the organiser had not charged performers entry, he would have made probably a couple of quid a night, because 99% of the people going there were performers. No wonder, it was f-ing boring, nobody except another performer would choose to pay to hear a bunch of singer-songwriters navel-gazing all night, with a few rare and talented exceptions (my ex being one, obviously :)) ) Suggest you read the old Cherry Tree thread to see why many people round here have a problem with the owners. Their "problems with me" (though God knows why they have always singled me out) are because I have publicised on here, as have others, the way they (mis) treat their many many managers and chefs. If you choose to continue to have gigs there, up to you, but I for one will not patronise the place. Surely the manner in which they have posted on this thread must indicate something to you, or perhaps it is you who has your fingers stuck in your ears? :)) :)) :))
