Just received the following email from the Lib Dems in case it is any help to people East Dulwich Snowy Weather Update - Friday 18 January. The weather forecast is that it will snow all day Friday 18 January and settle. That it will keep snowing all day Saturday and Sunday with minus temperatures. So the snow is likely to stay. Monday the forecast is for snow but temperatures hovering just above freezing so during the day we should see some melting. Elderly. If you have elderly family or neighbours please check that they're alright. If you're worried about anyone contact Southwark Council's Older People team - [email protected] 020 7525 3324 Roads. The Council highway contractors have been out gritting roads as per the winter plan: using their lorry gritters. We're also fortunate that we have a large number of hand gritting machines (80 bought 2009) and unlike the last two winters we've been assured they're out and about gritting pavements. IF you think an area has been missed or is dangerous please contact me immediately - [email protected] or 07900 227366. Schools. All East Dulwich schools are open and as of 12.30 today were not planning to close early. NB. Goose Green is closed to pupils on Monday 21st for a staff training day. Transport. TfL report they have robust winter weather plans but ask that you thoroughly plan all journeys before setting out. London Overground and tubes running well with problem limited to northern end of the Northern Line and Overground into Euston. Buses. No specific delays for bus routes P13, 12 40, 176, 185, 197, 484. we've asked for the road works at East Dulwich Road/Peckham Rye to be suspended to relieve congestion during the snowy weather and before the road become icy. Trains. First Capital Connect have a broken train at Blackfriars causing delays to services via Herne Hill, Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye, Nunhead. Southern trains into East Dulwich are running an altered time table - still trains running just not as many.

That's fair enough. It was the rest of the saga which wasn't.

Is that the same mural? My memory of it is completely different!

It's probably better that they issue a revised timetable to be adhered to come what may rather than people being unsure which timetable is being used, I reckon.

As Twirly says, side roads round here (and of course pavements) can be like ice rinks in certain conditions. I once set off in the car to try and get food supplies to a friend with flu, and gave up after a very short time as the car was virtually uncontrollable. All very well steering into a skid blah blah, but this was ridiculous. Had to walk - luckily it was just about within walking distance. If you're on Dog Kennel Hill Estate your friends might be OK as it's only just off Dog Kennel Hill which I'm sure will be gritted. You could always grit the smaller roads to your parking place yourself!!! ETA: Or put salt down.

If the snow is very bad then probably the main roads will be fine, but obviously the council does not have the resources to keep clear every single side road. Last time there was heavy snow it was virtually impossible to travel by car via side roads for a day or so. Transport will depend on the particular situation. I think it's probably impossible to predict. Tubes should be OK though I don't know about those lines which are partially overground. ETA: Probably best to keep an eye on the Met Office weather forecasts for London, which may change as it gets closer to the weekend. ETA: There was one infamous occasion when London buses were brought to a complete standstill by snow, but the tubes were unaffected - assuming you could get to a tube station!

Going by the label on Tesco's burgers, it seems they're fairly low in fat, but surprisingly high in Shergar. Sorry :))

I doubt if a card in a newsagent's window is going to help find him.

What's your non-cuddly-wuddly take on that? I'm guessing you have no pets. ETA: And Green Goose, are you really saying that people trying to find their missing cats and dogs are flyposting?

According to this, he was a very experienced pilot: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/01/16/vauxhall-helicopter-crash-pilot-named-pete-barnes_n_2486918.html?icid=maing-grid7|uk|dl1|sec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D146323

the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There was no passenger. xxxxx Yeh, that's what I said above. "No passengers on board". Very fortunate. I know the area very well too, often drive through and also use bus station/tube station. Absolutely amazed more people weren't hurt, especially at that time of day. But very unfortunate for the pilot. Apparently he had been diverted, so possibly wasn't familiar with the area. It seems that a mist/fog had recently come down, as apparently the view had been clear earlier. But according to early reports I heard, a specific warning had been given to air traffic about this particular crane. Don't know if that's true, as I don't know why it would have been singled out. But in any case it should have had lights on, don't know if they were not visible to the pilot in the mist.

Heard Chris Shaw interviewed on the BBC News Channel earlier, sounded like the Chris Shaw who is the melodeon player in Gig CB, he used to live on Peckham Rye, don't know if he still does. He was stopped at red lights, if lights hadn't been red he'd have been under the crash :( Very lucky escape (as had the crane driver who was late for work this morning). One man was rescued from a burning car. Amazing there weren't more casualties. Met giving press conference (I think), anyway a statement, at 11.30am according to BBC. Terrible for all involved but especially the families of the dead :( ETA: Pilot killed, no passengers on board, one person on the ground killed, one person critically ill.

I have not the least interest in football usually, but that's really interesting, thanks :) -
Green Goose Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > If it's about missing cats or dogs I ignore them > for 3 days - after which the animal has either > returned home or has gone to meet its maker. I hope you feel very happy that you might have been responsible for some animals never being reunited with their owners.

Thanks, I'll have a look.

I had the same test result as you once, but nothing at all was found from subsequent investigations. If that helps!

Thanks Jeremy. I don't think it's going to be worth spending ?55 on it - the money would be better put towards a new laptop, however that isn't going to happen in the near future!

Just realised though, isn't this converter going to be the wrong way round? I need a converter from analogue to HDMI, not the other way round, because the signal (or whatever the term is) would be going from my laptop to the projector.
