They don't look full size though. One is about monkey nut size, and very clearly much smaller than the others. I wonder where they can have come from if they're not last year's? I had damsel flies in my garden yesterday and today - possibly hatched from the larvae (not the right word) that came with the sadly eaten frogspawn (R.I.P.)

Hey, I went out tonight to water the garden (with a can - many of them :-S ) and saw FROGS in my tub! There are at least three of them! Can these be ones that hatched from tadpoles last year? I thought they disappeared and didn't come back to their place of birth for a few years???

I'm sure a beekeeper has posted on the forum in the past. Maybe if you did a search for "bees" something might come up?

Peckhamgatecrasher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sure I heard house martins today, but I didn't see > them. xxxxxx I heard a (very annoying!) bird yesterday which sounded like the squeaky wheel sound of the Great Tit only very very very much louder, interspersed with what sounded like radio interference :)) Never heard it before, and it went on for ages!! I took my life in my hands by standing on a rickety garden chair to try to see the bird, which sounded like it was in a garden a couple of houses down, but no luck :))

Only me! - that's so interesting, because for me it's the other way round. The fat balls get eaten the most, particularly by a family of Great Tits. After that the peanuts. I have some sort of seed mix, can't remember what, which has only just begun to be eaten by what looked like a baby sparrow, but not sure - keep meaning to look up whether they have speckled breasts when young. And the niger - not at all :-S I have Blackbirds, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Robins, Wood Pigeons, Sparrows. Used to have a Wren and also Starlings, but haven't seen either lately. Never seen a finch of any kind nor a Jay in my garden here, but would love to (hence the niger for the finches - I live in hope!). My favourite garden visitors are Woodpeckers and Long Tailed Tits, but I don't think it's likely I'll get either where I live now. I used to get Mum, Dad and Baby Great Spotted Woodpecker coming down to the peanuts. The most unusual bird I ever saw from my window was a Tree Creeper, but that was when I lived on a farm.

There have always been sparrows in ED, I have them in my garden. Very jealous about the goldfinches though, I've never seen one here even though I have a niger seed feeder in the hope of attracting them!

Too late now, but you could also get a 40 to the Elephant and then the Bakerloo line to Oxford Circus. Because the Elephant is the starting station for the Bakerloo, you'd be almost bound to get on easily, I'd have thought?

Absolutely brilliant craftsmanship by the guy painting the "SLOW" etc signs on the road! Like something out of a history book. White paint dribbling from a little can with total accuracy. I took some photos!

Black pudding supper, white pudding supper, haggis supper, pie supper - those were the days. Emily's has got nothing on Greasy Pete's up the Perth Road in Dundee :)) -

the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue what was the Furore last year? xxxxxx One of the stalls at the Festival Fair on Goose Green (not the hospice, I think it was one of those retro furniture places) was selling golliwogs. I didn't see them myself, but somebody posted something on here about it and started a heated discussion. I can't remember the subject title of the thread. So far as this year's are concerned, there were two very different types of golly being sold on the hospice's stall on Sunday, and I'd be very surprised if the same person makes both types. One lot were like little statues and looked like the old Robertson's jam ones from the fifties (?), and the others were made of material and stuffed and were much more in-your-face. They were being displayed next to each other. I saw the Robertson ones first and made some comment to the stallholder, but then I saw the other ones - which in my opinion were much worse - and that was when I told her that they could cause offence. I was very surprised that she seemed totally unconcerned, but I really didn't want to ruin my (and probably her) afternoon by making a big issue of it.

Yes I'm sure it's rape. Funnily enough I said to my OH yesterday that I could smell rape, and that it was the first time I had smelled it this year. I know it's flowering at the moment because I passed fields of it on the way to Whitstable on the train last weekend, and said at the time that it was odd that I hadn't smelled it yet. I don't know where the nearest plants are to ED though???? ETA: I also smelled it really strongly this evening, and in fact the smell was so strong that I thought it must be something else.

After the furore last year - on this forum at least - I was somewhat surprised to see that the hospice stall at yesterday's festival was selling two different types of golliwogs, and didn't seem at all bothered when I pointed out that they could cause offence to some people.

If she was there "officially" then Angela Burgess (the fair organiser) will have her contact details - see the Dulwich Festival thread in this section for Angela's email address (it's in one of the last posts).
