"Katie numbers" caused me irrational joy when I read it :)

This is a very well known scam. Why would somebody you have had no recent contact with ask you out of the blue to send them money?

Unless your hobbies and interests are directly relevant to the post you're applying for, you shouldn't include them (and whoever is sifting the CVs shouldn't be taking them into account either - they should be looking for information directly relevant to the requirements of the person spec).

Succinct but covering everything in the job description and (especially) person spec for the particular job, I should say. If it's not in the CV it should deffo be in the covering letter. What you've personally done, not what your team did or what you helped with. And anything irrelevant omitted. Deffo no photo. And get someone else to read it over before you send it off - it's very easy not to see a typo when you've spent ages staring at something.

Any Nasturtiums anybody had will have been zapped by the cold by now, Monica :) They are hardy annuals anyway, and do not normally last through the winter, though they carried on this year throughout the milder weather. People may have nasturtium seeds, though I know that quite a few have already been donated. They're very easy to grow, just shove them in the ground where you want them :)

As I said, I would like the people using this thread to moan about Hoopers to do the same, and then to respond in a rational manner to the points made by the people defending Hoopers. Or does that "smack of vicious bullying" as well? Some people's idea of bullying seems very odd to me. As admin says, if you think bullying is taking place then report it. If Admin agrees then they remove the post. Seems fair enough to me.

I love fonts too! Got a whole book about them - "Just My Type" by Simon Garfield. Haven't read much of it yet though .... too many books on the go at once ..... I like "Identity" which we use for some of The Goose poster headings (though we're about to change the poster design) but it has strange spacing glitches which are very annoying if you're using it in Word, and sometimes runs letters together or puts them miles apart. In a hurry and shouldn't be on the forum at all, so can't find an example - would have to find a pdf to post. ETA: Just realised, if you click on the Goose link the main heading on the home page is in Identity.

Sorry to say this, but if the thief's story is true (and why would he leave stuff in a bush?), then whoever found the stuff in the bush was either honest or dishonest. If he or she was honest, then they would have handed the stuff in to the police immediately (or very soon afterwards) or at least reported that they had found it. If he or she was dishonest, then they would have kept it or disposed of it for money, and aren't very likely to respond to an appeal for its return, on Twitter or not. I really really hope you get it back, Bunty, but I don't think the chances are too high unfortunately :-S

I had a long discussion about this with the Energy Saving Trust, who gave me useful information over the phone and if memory serves also sent me some info (though it might have come from their website). Energy Saving Trust I think, however, that what you have been told by British Gas is more or less what the Energy Saving Trust told me. I therefore chose only to have the parts of my loft insulated where I didn't need storage space. I did have a major clear-out of my loft before I had the insulation done though! The EST said that stuff stored above the existing boarded part of the loft (where there was a less deep layer of existing insulation below them than was being laid elsewhere) would act as insulation there anyway. The EST may be able to tell you if it is true re the potential condensation and rot, but if so, I suppose one option you have if you need storage space but don't want to do what British Gas suggested is to remove the insulation that has just been laid, replace it with thinner insulation, and replace your boards. Then if you are storing stuff on top this will insulate the floor anyway (apart from gangways where you need to tread). Good luck with sorting it all out - what a pain. Did British Gas not come and do a survey before they carried out the insulation? If so, they should have explained all this to you then. ETA: The British Gas system may be different, but with the government grant for insulsation, in theory, you have to have a certain (quite large) percentage of your loft covered with the "proper" depth of insulation in order to qualify for the grant.

Well if anybody is desperate to sort the matter out, the council will know. Assuming they still have a Parks Department.

Happened to me once when a bird flew down a chimney and sadly died because the fireplace was blocked up and by the time I'd phoned the RSPB to see what to do about it it was too late. A few days (if memory serves) later loads of large black flies filled the room, mainly as someone says above, around the window. I didn't think much of it at first but then there were more and more of them. Eventually I found that they were coming out of air holes in the fireplace, presumably from hatched out maggots in the bird (sorry). It was my bedroom, as well. It was really disgusting. I sellotaped over the airholes and I could see their vile little legs moving about behind. So afraid I do think you may well have a corpse somewhere - but the good news is the flies should eventually disappear ....

I saw somebody up a step ladder inside the other day - in the "new" bit.
