Hi Monica, hope you had a great break! Is the garden going to be in that fenced off bit on the right as you face the hospital? It looks like quite a large piece of land!

Saw four green parakeets fly over Crystal Palace Road this evening, squawking loudly (possibly attempting to compete with civilservant's dog!) My theory is that the parakeets are making a bid to take over East Dulwich prior to taking over the world. Sydenham Hill Woods are full of them :))

can we put plastic plant pots in the new blue bin?

You really think the colour of > our bins is the most important question that can > be posed at the next council assembly? xxxxxx Nobody's suggesting it's "the most important" question, are they? I happen to think that the visual environment is extremely important to people's mental health. These bins are like visual noise. If the relevant team wasn't consulted before they were introduced, then I think that's terrible. But I guess too late now to change the bins.

Items for sale described as "tasteful", "elegant", "lovely", "beautiful" etc.. I'll be the judge of that, thanks very much :))

zeban Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sue, Vintage doesn't mean that at all. Some people > do however misuse the term. xxxxx According to Wikipedia (yes I know, may well be wrong): Vintage clothing is a generic term for new or second hand garments originating from a previous era. The phrase is also used in connection with a retail outlet, e.g. "vintage clothing store." It can also be used as an adjective: "This dress is vintage." The word vintage is copied from its use in wine terminology, as a more elegant-seeming euphemism for "old" clothes.

It's all changed now down there, it used to be great big houses (including my primary school) in both Palace Road and Christchurch Road, now it seems to be mostly flats. Don't remember Francis and Son as we lived in Streatham, our local grocer was Peachells just opposite Streatham Station, or else Home and Colonial on the hill up towards St Leonard's Church. Don't remember either of them being particularly high class, but I do remember ration books :)) Also remember the first supermarket opening, it was a (what would be now) small Waitrose, very exciting serving yourself with a basket and smelling chicken on a spit! Sorry admin, as you were .... -

Nisha is leaving Val's and East Dulwich this week
Sue replied to Horsebox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Bit odd if someone's taken over a business which is losing money due to Sainsbury's. What are they going to do to make it viable which Nisha hasn't already done? -
woodyp91 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Dear Monica, Do you have any idea how I could get > my class at Goose green flyer put up in the > community notice boards around here? > Thanks - xxxxxx I think Monica is on holiday at the moment, and nobody else is dealing with the notice boards, however usually you can just take the flyer in to her at Health Matters on Lordship Lane and she will put it up for you if it's appropriate.

Yeh it has been an excellent year for fruit, but there's always loads of spiders about at this time of year. I always forget to duck when going down the side of my house into the garden, and end up with my hair full of cobwebs (and if I'm really unlucky, the spider as well :)) ) Luckily I don't mind spiders too much, but in my hair is a step too far :)) Sloe gin - excellent! If anybody has any spare sloes, I'll gladly take them off your hands!

Palace Road is in Streatham Hill, SW2 (my primary school was there in the fifties!). Don't think there's a Palace Road in East Dulwich. Do you mean Crystal Palace Road? -

A friend of mine recently cremated her mother in a coffin covered with pictures of bluebells, and then scattered her ashes in a bluebell wood :) ETA: Perhaps the wheely bins could be dual purpose? It's all recycling, after all ......

Fingers crossed.

Lost dry-cleaning found on Crawthew Grove
Sue replied to a bit dizzee's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My mind is boggling, but if it was found in Crawthew Grove it probably came from either the dry cleaner next to the Post Office or else the one on the other side of Lordship Lane near the EDT, so they might have a record of whose it is?
