The last time they had a display there it took what seemed like hours to disperse the crowd. Everybody was trying to cross the main road, there were massive bottlenecks at at least two different gates, and they really should have had police or other officials controlling the traffic at the relevant crossings.
  2. Be careful, Lamis, I've twice taken in cats who I thought were strays which turned out not to be. Some cats do wander into other people's houses, especially if they think there's a chance they may be fed. I had one try to get in my back door only yesterday :))

I had a bin recess built outside my terraced house, but they still leave the bin on the pavement (or worse, blocking the path to my front door) and just chuck the recycling boxes all over my plants.

Because I've had a bellyful of individuals who claim they can "do this" and "do that" and then make a total mess of it (6)

You will have to wait for ages going through various menus (tip - it's 2 then 2, you don't have to wait till the end before hitting the 2) and then for ages more while they drone on and on before telling you to hold on if you need to speak to somebody. I've been waiting for a new smaller green bin for over a month. I phoned today to find out where it was. The first person I spoke to cut me off, so then I had to go through the whole process again. (6) Eventually spoke to somebody else, and all they could do was reorder it. So another few weeks (6)

I think we're stuck with it. All I managed to wring out of them was a promise to use a more appropriate shade of blue in the future, but since every house has already got one of the bright blue ones, I can't see that making much difference. You do know you can have a box or continue to use your existing dark blue box, rather than having a wheelie bin?
  9. Evie, I suggest you email the councillor whose email address is given in the first post on this thread. At least he will be in no doubt what people think about his rubbish decision re the colour, even if it's too late to do much about it now. ETA: And it might make you feel better!

Katie, thanks for your kind words about the Singaround, it makes it all worth while when people appreciate what we're doing!

  13. The Minkey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The superfluous use of 'station' in the > announcement which tells you which stop is coming > up next, i.e 'the next station stop will be > Swindon'. > xxxxxxx That used to drive me mad as well, until I realised that if they said "the next station" only, it didn't mean the train would be stopping there, and if they said "the next stop" only, it could be a stop at a signal. So it does actually make sense to say "station stop", even if it's irritating :)

And East Dulwich has had a high profile "Say NO To Unwanted Bags" campaign. I get the impression that the person concerned was being over-sensitive - perhaps feeling her age herself that day and therefore relating everything to it?

Your post, however, came across as quite nasty, foxtailandfern :-S Pots and kettles spring to mind.

  20. Come to Goose gigs - I'm your age group (upper end!) and we have a wide range of ages coming along from teens to sixty plus. If you don't like folk concerts or clubs, the Singaround is fun - and FREE! People sing all kinds of stuff, not just folk. Everyone is very friendly and you'll soon get to know people, or if you don't we can introduce you to people. :)-D ETA: You don't actually have to sing at the Singaround, you can just come and listen if you like - though most people do seem to weaken and at least join in the choruses :) The next one is on Sunday 13 November, and we are now Upstairs at the Mag (Lordship Lane, corner of Pellatt Road) ETA: Or have you looked here: What's On in East Dulwich ? Loads of stuff going on locally, though I don't suppose any of the organisers keep a note of people's ages :) Depends on what your interests are I guess. Though speaking for myself, I'd hate to hang out only with people of my own age .......
  21. We'll be down later today, Monica :) xx

    Quality Junk Mail

Hisar (I think it was) once put a leaflet round the door headed "Feel yourself in sunny Turkey". I've still got it somewhere. :)) ETA: And not junkmail, but I so wish RimWorld on the Walworth Road hadn't changed its name to HatWorld :)) They could have teamed up with Uranus Pizza, perhaps.
  23. wee quinnie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Er...isn't that subjective? Had always had good meals there before, but the last one I had was - as you say - sh!te, and I felt bad for having recommended it to people. I think the management changed, or the chef changed, or something - according to one of the waiters at the Dulwich Tandoori, anyway! Edited for typo

Edited for typo
