Thanks for that picture of the headlines. That was the one I referred to above, but I couldn't find it. Disgraceful, aren't they.

Good value local hairdressers (for women)?
Sue replied to redjam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Shingo at Kuki in Bellenden Road is absolutely brilliant. I've been going there for years I have only ever had Shingo, who owns the salon, but I believe the others there are also very good. The prices are the same whoever you have. Https://kukihair.com I have very thin and fine hair, and in the past, whenever I've found a good cutter, they have moved on and it took me ages to find someone else. I can't recommend Shingo highly enough. But usually you have to wait some time for an appointment as he gets booked up very quickly (not over the summer though as people are away). Prices have gone up recently, so it may still be more than you want to pay, but the length of time between cuts will depend on the style. I've recently had a quite short bob which is going to mean cuts every couple of months. -
Very silly question, sorry, but have you looked at reviews on places like Trust Pilot and Google?
-
Yes. And many other weird measures 😂 I still remember 1,760 yards in a mile. And 2,240 something or other 😂

I just had a look at its reviews. It's strange that it seems to be so inconsistent, with some (most) people raving about the excellent food and service, and others saying the food is awful/tastes of nothing and the service is terrible. Wondering: Is it due to different chefs/waiting staff/duty managers at different times? Is it due to some people having very low expectations/little experience of Chinese food, and therefore thinking rubbish food is very good? Is it due to some people having very high expectations/wide experience of Chinese food and therefore thinking run of the mill or mediocre food is dreadful? Is it because some of the reviews aren't genuine? I'm almost tempted to go and try it for myself, but I think that's probably a very bad idea 🤣

Thanks all. I was hoping for somewhere a bit nearer. Now wondering if I can get away with not washing it 🤣

Is there still a launderette locally which has a large capacity machine? I need to wash a very large sofa cover.

Thanks for the clarification! Though although of course none is more right (unfortunate choice of words!) than the other, it does seem that there is a lot more violence and lack of empathy from the people on one "side", for want of a better word. Not sure how relevant this is, but many years ago I lodged for a short time with a couple who were committed Christians. If memory serves, one of them had fought in the war. I asked how he could reconcile this with "Thou shalt not kill" etc. Basically he couldn't. I'm wondering, if it came to it, how many of the thousands of peaceful and non violent people who came out on the streets recently would actually physically fight the fascists (or whoever) if circumstances called for it.

Pardon? Are you posting this in response to what I said? If so, how exactly have you come to this interpretation of what I said? To be absolutely clear, I did not mean that certain arrests were made because it was being SAID that there was two tier policing ! Who is disagreeing with you, exactly?
-
My understanding is that it's both those, but the majority of identified troublemakers are from one "group", consisting of the various subgroups involved in the initial riots.
-
From what I have read so far, there have been one or two arrests of people who weren't right wing racists and/or thugs out to thump people and cause trouble, but the vast majority were in the latter groups. If it is being said that those arrested are "from all political and cultural backgrounds", I assume this is because some people have laid accusations such as "two tier policing", implying that people of certain groups are treated differently to people of other groups for similar offences. I thought the point was exactly that, that the photo wouldn't be much good in identifying who it was?

Want to learn how to crochet - is there a class nearby

To be fair, unless someone from the group has told Sam that their arrangements have changed, he can't be expected to change the website! But even if they have, he has a really heavy workload and works very hard at putting on and overseeing a wide range of excellent events and activities, so it may take him a while to do it. -
Watched? Didn't anybody try to stop them?

Too many swimmers Dulwich Leisure centre

Also it should be clear at the time of the session, because for lane swimming the pool is divided into lanes (fast, slow etc) whereas for the family/open swim or whatever it's called, it isn't. It wouldn't be appropriate to have babies in the lane swimming sessions, and I've never seen children in them so I have no idea if there's an age limit, however presumably they would have to be able to swim and be able to go in the deep end (not that it's very deep at Dulwich!) But I haven't been there during school holidays. -

It's on the Ivy House website under "activities". First Monday of the month at 7pm. Https://www.ivyhousenunhead.co.uk/activities/ The pub won't be directly running this group themselves, but if you did want to contact them, the events manager is Sam and his email address is [email protected] He might have a contact number or email address for whoever started the group, should you want to find out more about it before turning up to it! -

Yes, it's my understanding that the lane swimming is completely separate sessions. I thought that the family sessions were for people who just want to enjoy themselves playing about in the water, or for new or scared swimmers who are still getting used to walking about in the pool, rather than seriously swimming in it. But maybe things have changed, it's a while since I've been. -
Sorry, I know it's well meant, but I can't see the point of this letter. It's stating the obvious, the issues are already being addressed, and it's talking in vague generalities instead of making specific suggestions for change. Re the Mail, I saw a picture today of a load of Mail headlines which were definitely inflammatory. I don't think I could find it again easily, it was on Facebook I think, could have been the Guardian. Re the Bibby, I suggested exactly that at the weekend. I wasn't joking.

There used to be one, on the corner opposite the little charity shop. I think there's a coffee place there now? It was certainly old school and no frills, but the cakes never looked very appetising. It was like something from the fifties (in my opinion). -
